Well, according to Sportrac, only $5M of the last $20M signing bonus has been paid, the rest is deferred. I was wondering all along if this was a carrot to try to get him to come back in 2022 since his cap hit is going to be bad.

So, if I'm reading this right, even if he retires on paper after June 2 he hits their cap with $8M in 2022 and $24M in 2023, all this for a guy who is no longer on the team and them needing to find a starting QB and resign a lot of veteran players.

I think the only way aging athletes retain mindshare is to get a TV gig.

Even the TV guys don't move the needle much, but ones who aren't (like let's say Montana) have pretty much disappeared from most people's mind except for the occasional time they show up on TV.
