Speculation: McDaniels to the Raiders nearly done. [Confirmed DONE1/31/22]

Seriously Jesus. Everytime I look at him I think i'm back in HS in NH or in western Virginia.

How far west? I grew up in west-central VA.

Is your daughter an engineering-type? VPI would be great for that.

Terrible if she is an athlete (assume she isn't a football player). They actually installed a big "national trophy case" as an attempt at inspiration for the football program and then had to take it out when it became a joke, because football clearly won't ever be at that level and they are one of a handful of major colleges to have never won a national title in any sport (unless you count bass fishing - seriously).

Speculation is that McDaniels is leaving because Steve Belichick will be the next Pats HC when Bill steps away.
No Way. Even if Steve shows promise. You don’t want to be the one who replaces a GOAT especially if it is your Dad.

At this point I’d be shocked if Mcds doesn’t end up in LV. I imagine once he does Mayo won’t be far behind as his DC. My only hope after that is Flores doesn’t land a HC job and ends up back on NE’s staff.

I think he's going to want to pick an experienced DC, and coaching staff. This is his last hurrah as an NFL head coach, and he's inheriting a playoff team. He won't be doing favors or awarding major promotions.

Big mistake by MacDaniels if he makes this move. His second chance at being a HC will likely be his last chance, and he is going to a division that already has Mahomes and Hebert, and a strong chance Denver could add Rodgers. The Raiders are not going to get over the Chiefs anytime soon, and if he lasts 3 seasons it will be a miracle, at which point his head coach career will be over. Belichick understood this years ago, and he took the Patriots job because it was the best situation for him to succeed, MacDaniels is putting himself in a really bad position.

Maybe the plan in Las Vegas under McDaniels and Ziegler would be to go after Rodgers, Watson, or Wilson. Carr is going into the last year of his deal. So they are not married to him.

BioMed engineering. I guess VT has a great undergrad/grad program. Still researching.

Plenty of great schools up here for that but she does not like MA. Since we are getting 2ft of snow I can't imagine why...

It’ll be interesting to see where Judge ends up. He was going to be on McDaniels’ Colts staff until that fell through. There could be a path for him to eventually be OC in New England though, if BOB is doing it for a year or two to give Judge time to observe and learn.

I’ll add that Achord was brought in at Judge’s recommendation, so if he ends up back in NE I’m guessing he’d be something like offense/special teams consultant without him taking anybody else’s job.

I think if Judge wants to rise up the coaching ranks again his best shot is under Bill.
I think he would realize that.

If McDaniels makes this move, I'm torn on the idea of a Bill O'Brien reunion. For 2022, I think it's a no brainer: Guy who knows the Bill, knows the Patriots, knows what they want to do on offense, and has had success running a two-TE system here. Also a guy who Mac helped teach the Alabama playbook on his way out there, so there's some Alabama concepts they could fold in as well.

But, how long would O'Brien be here as the OC? He wants to be a head coach again, either in the pros or college. If the Pats have a successful 2022 and Mac takes a big leap, he'd be a hot candidate again. Which means 3 different OC's in his first three years for Mac. I feel like that's a quick way to muck up his development.

But if you can get O'Brien here for two years, and groom someone behind him (like Troy Brown maybe?) to take over after that, I think it would be a great move.

I think Hoyer should be the future coordinator.
I Believe he is sharp and has a future in coaching if he wants it.

I think he'd be good at it, but I question whether he wants it. I think someone asked him during camp this year (when it looked pretty likely that Newton was still on the team), whether he'd consider a coaching role if he doesn't make the cut, and it sounded like he wasn't interested. And I can't blame him. He makes more as a backup QB than he would as a position coach, and the coaching hours are LONG. I agree though, if he wants it, I think he'd be good at it.

Same with Matt Cassel honestly. QB's who had to learn complicated systems without the benefit of high end natural athletic gifts should make good coaches, because they know how precise you have to learn everything.

Brady would make a good one too (again, if he wanted it), assuming he can get past the fact that most QB's he's teaching won't be quite so maniacal in their work that he is/was.

Jonnu's lack of production wasn't on Josh... Believe it or not, it was on Jonnu... he was targeted early on in a ton of games... he just never really stepped up on a consistent basis... I think Jonnu will benefit from having a full season under him in the system, and expect good things from him in the future...
How can that be? I thought it had to be terrible GMing or terrible "playcalling."

SweartaGahd, the STUPIDEST rubbish I see on here is about the terrible, terrible playcalling. I don't care how well you know Xs and Os, it's always this predictable cosmetic exercise where you dress up woulda shoulda coulda (the holy trinity of regret) as piercing insight.

I hope if Josh is headed to Las Voakland he takes along one of our GDT kings, you know, to explain how if it was a screen it shoulda been a slant or if it was an inside run it shoulda been an outside run.... and how Josh MISUSED player X, with player X bearing no responsibility for how he fares in the system.

Jonnu got used as a TE2. Jonnu was a TE2. Maybe he'll be more better. Right now he's not. I hope another year does the trick.

I want Mac to develop most of all, so bringing BOB back is priority #1. You have to if it's even possible.

I have an axe to grind with BOB though. I consider him to be too cute with playcalls for his own good. This is what I loved about Josh mcD, he always seemed to stick with what was working, while BOB has more of an ego and needs to outsmart the opponent.

I guess I'll never forgive him for what transpired right before Welker's drop in the 2011 Super Bowl. Brady had completed several passes in a row, we were in hurry up, the Giants were gassed, no pass rush, in Sound Effects they showed Strahan talking to someone about what was going on and it sounded like the Giants were about to throw in the towel.

Brady completes a big throw downfield, the OL runs to the ball in hurry up mode, but then BOB decides to throw a jumbo freaking package out there, we had wholesale substitutions, the refs stopped the quick snap so the Giants could bring their guys out, they went big, they run blitzed, and stuffed us for a 3 yard loss. This happened right before the Welker drop.

It was dumb. We were cutting up the Giants with short throws. They could not defend. Even the refs thought the game was about to end on that series.

& I still want BOB back because of Mac.

I wouldn’t mind a reunion with BOB, Flores and judge to be honest
I don’t see a lot to make me feel good about BOB.

I guess we all need to go to Vegas for the Pats - Raidahs game next year.
Vegas BABYYYYYYY

Your handy Mass vs. VA comparison

Stuff they like a lot...
VA: Stars and Bars
MA: Bars

Presidents...
VA: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Southern MFin Democratic Republicans
MA: John Adams

Backward views...
MA: "I think transsexuals must be free to choose their own destiny but now they are competing in women's swim meets and if this keeps up I will write a strongly worded letter to the editor."
VA: "Truck needs a new tranny. Heh. Heh heh."

Pitfalls for BioMed Engineering undergrads
MA: Might be asked to help unethically create ape-human hybrid supersoldiers
VA: Might be asked to carry them to term.

Yeah, O'Brien isn't perfect by any stretch, but there really isn't a perfect OC out there (and the closest ones are in the running for HC jobs). My preference would be to have McDaniels back for one more year, give Mac a good two-year base, then whoever the next OC is works WITH him to evolve the offense, rather than continuing to teach it to him. But Josh is probably overdue for chance #2, so O'Brien is the next best thing.

I wouldn't mind someone like Chad O'Shea coming back and trying him in the role either though as an alternative. I think he's the WR coach and passing coordinator for the Cleveland Browns, but has a history with us and could be ready for that next step.

Addendum: Yeah, asked to carry them to term. That's the part to be scared of in Virginia. Might be asked.

Okay I might be getting ahead of myself, that's more a Texas thing.

BOB doesn’t exactly have a shining resume.
Do you know that the Patriots scored more points in Macs rookie season than any team BOB coached in Houston?
His highest scoring team in Houston scored more than 2 ppg less than the 21 Pats. The average was quite a bit lower than that. His offense was never top 10 in points scored, with Deshaun Watson.
Extremely overrated.
