Content Post Words on things I watched, read & heard II

This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.
Apologize, I know you guys don't care but I wasn't ignoring you. I really haven't been around as much lately.
What do you think about Smoke Monday in the 4th if Devin retires in the offseason
Yo this guy was just a name a few years ago. Every year we see these crazy names. God bless black mothers bc they just don't care. Remember De'coldest Crawford? He's one I'll never forget lol. Smoke is legit though and can ball.

I have to admit I have my doubts about specifically taking over for Dev in a C1 / Single high role. Two high maybe bc I can see him rotating down a lot. He loves playing downhill. Very aggressive, loves sticking dudes. I feel like he has the speed (former track & field spent time on ST) and route recognition but a little iffy about his C.O.D. in such a wide open space. That and his short area quicks - like that twitch and instant acceleration. More the agility though. Plus, again he's much more comfortable coming down hill. He does take proper angles and showed off some range but not sure if he's able to change direction quick enough next level and be that last line of defense.

I think he'll stick bc of his versatility and think teams will try to utilize that first. His ability to tackle in space, very sound, blitz / TFL, play the run, cover TE / nickel. Play that shallow zone underneath / seam. Very good against OZ - Stretch runs. Starts with recognition but he'll shoot through and can get vertical pretty easy. Very comfortable playing those leverage routes from the slot. Good in man.
He does have plus route recognition though. Plus instincts. Seems like a smart player. Didn't give up a lot of big plays.

I'm curious how he'd move with a few more pounds packed on bc I think he's a SS next level. I think he's a lot better playing things in front of him. 6'3 200 he could add and might need to if he's splitting time in the box in the NFL.

I wouldn't be surprised if a few of their defenders in the secondary are on my list this year.

For Dev I'm looking at Dax Hill. Football player through and through. Smart well spoken. Tough. Easy mover with loose hips. Should run 4.3-4.4 Should test well. Can line up anywhere at Saf, nickel isn't afraid to get dirty playing the run. Very good range. Plus instincts. I think he fill that role with some luck as Dev has been great here for a long time.
One guy we need to consider if we want a Davis type of player is Travis Jones out of UConn. He is sth around 6‘4 and 330, really strong anchor in the run defense but also provides pocket push on passing downs which is not really often for those „fatties“. @BaconGrundleCandy or someone else have you looked into him so far ?
He should be available in the second but could be a riser since the DT isn’t the greatest again
He's been on top my list since I put it out last year. Pro ready vs run and easily his best asset as a prospect.
Resets and moves the los regularly. Wins with core strength, lateral ability and active - strong hands. Wins against doubles / duo blocks by moving laterally, focusing on one block making it half man rush if he can. Rarely fooled vs the run. Always in his lane. Quick to ID.

His first step isn't great but he's another easy mover for a dude playing around 330-340. Came onto uconn at 360 with 30% body fat. Surprisingly agile and smooth for a big dude. When he's in front of you it's not so easy to stop someone that big that can move. Plus effort motor and fight.

Plus hands with lots of pop. Active but usually strikes with really good initial placement. Decent counters. Has to get a little quicker overall but again just efficient movements at a huge size.

Ideal 1/0 tech. Could be just what we need next to Barmore. A space eater that move laterally and also contribute vs the pass. Definitely not his strong suit but again he can move and he's a worker. Really just besting blocks but can cross face. Has a little push/pull with swim. Utilizes length well benches guys at times. Uses some hesi moves.

Good versatility can play 0-5 any time. Local kid.

Jones, Hill, Monday and McCreary will probably all be on my board though.
the biggest question I have with him, is can he 2 gap!
I love you man but that's the last question anyone has if they watched him.

I could live with McGreary/Gardner/Duffie and Jones for our first picks or trade up in the third to get Jones and select three times in the top 70. Jones looks like a nice complement for barmore who needs a big man next to him on the nose while he plays 3/4 T.

For the NT need I have kept an eye one Tyler Shelvin . BB seemed to really like him in the draft last year. He has not played a snap for Cincinnati since being drafted. Maybe we can swing an off-season deal for him and use the draft to fill another need.

Only if he accepts a one-year, non-guaranteed, vet-minimum deal… Which is still more than I would offer Harvey Wallbangi or Especially Jalopy Tavai… or Brandon the King…
I'm really getting to enjoy your player nicknames

I would really like to know the reason for this , he did not have any big injuries as far as I remember and I mean a guy his size you expect him to get some run defense goal line shots or whatever at least some sort of snaps
I do not think this is a good sign especially if they are ready to trade him away after only one year, could be scheme but for a late round pick I would take a shot
I think I rather have a more „athletic „ NT with more quickness like Davis or Jones is showing with some pass rush upside which fits against modern nfl offenses way better

This will never get old :haha:

One thing I always mentioned concerning Smith is Arthur Smith. Smith was in his bag in Tennessee with the running game and working off that Smith.

I like the motion bc he's a bull when he's gets going. Give me 1 or 2 of those a game in each half. Maybe even a hand-off.

Another issue is we have a ton of MOF options. He does a ton of work underneath on crossers and routes that work that area. We have so many guys that do that so it might just be pecking order at this point in the season but I hear you. I wish he was a little more involved.
Smith has been a constant topic all year. Basically this ^^^ and he's been a poor blocker and that's being kind. And why I suspect we're better running out of 21 with JJ then 12 with Smith, he's a better blocker. I'm actually surprised we haven't seen Asiasi giving the personal and need for a blocking TE. We really do miss / need Smith's yac though.

This team desperately needs yac and a legit X that can work outside/deep. Explosive plays too. We actually generate a good amount but again nothing is easy when the league is giving free yards away downfield. We generate a good amount but they're chunk plays. Like 20-25 gash plays that don't lead to TD's. Running game has been a savior for this team. We're going to need to pass, pass to score more next year.

Passing offense is a number one priority next training camp hopefully, we need more targets for our additions like Henry Smith Bourne and i like to see a bit more aggressiveness in year 2 with more open playbook . Mistakes or long downs always look like drive killers or close , we need to fight to get the passing game going ,McD already mentioned he needs to get Smith more involved I hope they figure it out next year bc we can’t use 12 Million on a just guessing here 200 yards target with couple of sweeps, we have asiasi or keene for a second TE blocking if we don’t involve Smith in the passing offense.

Run defense should be right behind passing offense although I think pass rush could get some work too. If Judon isn’t getting the job done and barmore is doubled teamed we have no real impact, I like KVN but he isn’t coming on often enough and the blitzes aren’t really working as you would expect it imo.

NFL is a cartoon. We care so much about a sport run by absolute maniacs.

Don’t forget JaWrong Bentley, who just plain sucks.

Last season, maybe.

I've actually been really impressed with Bentley this year. He looks a bit quicker, lighter on his feet, more decisive, athletic, explosive, rarely seems late to the ball and I don't see him looking lost out there. I'd feel comfortable with him being the thumper at ILB, with McGrone or McMillian being the more balanced/athletic/sideline-to-sideline MLB.

Hightower, bless his heart, is just wearing down. Mentally still has it but his body isn't giving him the juice he needs to consistently perform at a high level. He's been fine this year, good at times, but has also looked like he athletically doesn't anymore belong at other times.

To finish the thought, Bentley taking a jump this season has been great because the team went from needing 2 legitimate ILBs to likely only needing 1 (and that 1 may be McGrone or McMillian, both of whom I am optimistic about). I hope he can carry this season's level of play into the future (if they end up extending him).

Brady's mechanics continue to be flawless. I've talked about them a lot but he continues to be a lower tier god at the position.

Remember when Dak did this? I remember posting this.

You always see him working on this stuff. More than most imo.

This is all about keeping that front shoulder tight. Tied to the body. While keeping that back foot planted.

Look at Brady's here. His non-throwing arm is almost part of side immediately after taking his hand off the ball. It moves a little when he has to gear up and really put some zip on it but it's so tight and fixed for the most part.
Same for his back foot. It almost never leaves. That's one of the reasons he's so accurate. It's important to keep his balance all the through.
And speaking of balance his base couldn't be more balanced.
Basically throws with his hips & core.

I can't believe he's still playing at this level. He's about to break a few more records tomorrow. If I'm Tampa I'm keeping the band together for as long as possible bc it's back to 5-8 win seasons as soon as he's gone.

They need to do anything to find a young succesor who can learn from brady as much as possible. And they need to keep their offense scheme with more runs, Play-Action, short Passes and not return to the 5000 yards 30 TD 30 Int stats no riskitnobuscuit amirite

I couldn't watch the CCF so i would be happy to hear some insights from guys who watched the game
especially about the upcoming draft players like Davis, Neal, Harris, Pickens, Cine etc.
I know there is a thread about it but i think this is the better thread to talk about it

In a List of the top FA in the upcoming offseason I saw that Joseph-day and fatukasi are listed. Both could be looked at if we are looking to add a NT especially Fatukasi. @BaconGrundleCandy and others how would you feel about that ?

I thought that UConn alum Fatukasi was the best remaining DT in the 2018 draft after Tim Settle was taken by the 'Skins at #163... I kinda wish now that Billy & Little Nicky had taken a longer look at him instead of a 2nd consecutive LB, Christian Sam...
