I don’t agree with that. I’m not saying be sucked, but he didn’t “achieve” anything.
maybe I just have a different idea of how an organization works, but I just have never seen an organization that judges leaders on a curve of it’s ok to not excel.
He wasn’t hired to miss the playoffs 3 straight years and he wasn’t hired to not fit in with management or whatever euphemism is being used for his bosses not feeling he could deliver what they want.
How is starting the year 1-7 losing to Jacksonville and Atlanta and burying your playoff chances “hitting the mark”?
Do you think Miami did, or should expect a 1-7 start a game and a half step backward and not making the playoffs and call that “the mark”?
I could agree he didn’t fail miserably and prove he is incapable, but he didn’t do anything to prove he is the answer.
Mediocre, average coaches get fired, and rightfully so. Coaching hires are shots at a home run, not hoping for ok. It’s a ridiculously competitive role and I guarantee you that no coach will be hired this year with the expectation that missing the playoffs his first 3 years is a success at any level and all would expect they probably are gone if that happens unless they are building a culture and a strong focussed organization, which they felt he wasn’t.
If you are going to be at philosophical odds with your boss you better not have to make excuses for why they should consider mediocrity greatness.
