What is helping us are the UDFA CB hits in Butler, Jonathan Jones, JC Jackson and Meyers.

Gunner considering his draft status can be considered a hit but if he does not show potential as a runner , his spot will be in jeopardy next season.

Absolutely correct. But it also helps to think of every draft as being influenced by the staff BB worked with. The 2021 draft was good, 2009-2012 drafts were good, 2001-2004 drafts were good when BB had Floyd Reese, Eliot Wolf/Groh now, or Pioli/Dimitroff back in the day.

The super crappy drafts are from 2013-2019 and 2005-2008. Especially at CB and WR, 0/8 at CB and 0/3 at WR just avoid these positions entirely as the draft process at these 2 positions has been broken since 2004 when it was updated by 2 people from Ohio.

Yes but he'll be back.

I swear if they play Harry 95% of the snaps vs MIA i'll buy DropKickFlutie

You can buy me a beer and admit I told you so. I fully expect dumb moves to happen the next couple weeks. Would be par for the course for how they already dealt with overplaying crappy guys and underplaying good players: NKeal Harry, Meyers/Harris benched last year, Karras benched last year, thought Cajuste/Herron could play RT for 6 weeks, just so many dumb moves.

Karras wasn't with the team last year.

Bentley and Bailey were late round picks who have already far exceeded the average production from their respective draft slots. Even if they did literally nothing and got cut year 1, you can't get mad about them.

JaWrong didn’t carry a draftable grade at all, unless one considers those ranked in the upper 300s draftable… UDFA? Sure why not… Top-150 pick? Hells No.

And the best PKers, Punters & LSers All went Undrafted; no need to waste a top-175 pick on one of them, that’s for sure.

Don’t forget Anfernee Jennings. A LB with DT quickness and speed.

He must’ve aced his interview too… or he was steered Billy’s way through his ol’ reliable buddy, Honest Nick Saban…

What an abomination of a draft. No wonder they told Creepy Caserio to enjoy his life in Houston. That’s like studying for weeks for a test just to fail it due to analysis paralysis.

Anytime a team can land 2 starters and 2 reserves in the draft they have done their job.

Dugger and Onwenu are starters (or should be)

Uche, Herron, Jennings and the rest of them are on notice to produce Year 3.

So certainly not a killer draft but not a pathetic one.

I always thought he should play Edge/DE here and not ILB. He showed relative solid power and long arms to be a edge defender, way too slow for ILB

For comparison his arms are 32.88" and Tre Flowers' was 34".

He needs another 10lbs on him to play edge.

He got some good experience last year.

We'll see.

Yeah that draft is overblown by a lot of people. All the WR's and RB's after Homes and Bush had their red flags and Jackson/Maroney were rated at the top after Bush/Homes. My speculation on why the Pats took Maroney and Jackson is because they needed to keep up with the Colts after taking a beating at Gillette and had no firepower against the Broncos in their divisional loss. Both Maroney and Jackson were considered the big play guys with less millage than D'Angelo Williams and Maurice Jones-Drew. Greg Jennings had the question of whether he could separate. Brandon Marshall dropped due to character issues.

I was a big Maroney fan until after the 2007 season. If he can't have a big year running behind that team where the D is focusing on a historic passing game, he never will. And he didn't.

I was also a big fan of Jackson, but some on the board had said he was an idiot, clueless in training camp and had a bad attitude. He did show a lot of promise when he played until his hamstring kept keeping him out and then the ACL tear KO'd his career. I heard he couldn't cut after that injury.

Fun facts: D'Angelo Williams sad he hates the Pats because they didn't take him. Jennings also said he wanted to be drafted by the Pats.

Yeah, whenever I mention the litany of Bill’s draft failures, I never mention those two for the same reason… LaMa & DeAngelo Williams were the best RBs available by the time the Pats picked at 21, and though I preferred Williams I had no problem with the LaMa pick either… Both he & Williams were considered late 1st-round-caliber too, and worthy of their selection.

Santonio Holmes & CJack were #s 1 & 2 at WR throughout the draft process, with late-1st / early-2nd-round grades, so once Holmes went to Sh!ttsdirt then CJack was next man up… I had no problem with the trade-up either.

He got some pass deflections during his bama time it looks longer on film
I agree he could use some weight but he looks a bit more stout than wino for example
But in the end we haven’t seen much of him last two seasons to evaluate him really

Braxton Berrios

Remember him? 431 receiving yards this season and 2 receiving TDs. Plus, he returned a KO for a TD. Its something to hang your hat on.

He has started only 1 game with the Jets and still has a 71% catch rate.

Harry can only dream of having a season like that. "Hands of Stone Harry" is catching 56% for his career.

I told you guys when he was drafted that he was a size 15 shoe statue. Nobody took heed as usual and look where we are today?

I agree. I have no issue with Jennings. He played a decent amount as a rookie and didn't totally embarrass himself. Too bad he got hurt this year. Hope he can contribute in 2022.

The LB corp will look a lot different next year.....

You know what I mean. But then again you're the same disingenuous poster who tried to claim the pats' crappy drafts from 2013-2019 were actually good because there were a bunch of special or bench players from those drafts.

Point is there have been a number of dumb moves that show the offensive staff isn't always doing what's the best for the team from a talent eval standpoint. Benching karras for no reason this year until week7, keep giving NKeal Harry a million chances, didn't play Jacobi Meyers or Damien Harris last year till almost Halloween while giving binkies NKeal Harry and Michel all the reps.

Onwenu has taken a step back in Year 2, for whatever reason. I would like to see him back at RT and Brown at LT, though. But good lord, drafting two TEs in a weak TE draft was horrific team-planning. And that’s without hindsight. Hindsight makes it look even worse considering the two stiffs they drafted didn’t do enough to stop Bill from spending like a drunken sailor at the same position a year later.

Yeah the LB group is big we have plenty players but could use a re think of the strategy there. We have many big ILB who are slow and not really coverage suited and on the edge we have speed rushers who don’t play ILB but don’t really often get used as pass rushers as well at least right now. I hope we can land some coverage LB , that is high on my list . HT could retire imo, KVN will be back hopefully , Collins is a FA I believe as Bentley as well, Oerkins Jennings McGrone are like rookies more or less to be honest bc I don’t really judge the covid season from jennings. Wino I can see get traded because he can play it’s just not here , we should part ways here maybe for a late round pick or trade up a current pick , there are plenty of ways to regroup the LB next year , along with a fattie and we are good

Yep. I was high on him coming out of college. He needed a lot of work, which he should have gotten here. That one was a curious departure. We can use someone that can get in and out of his cuts as quickly as Berrios on this year’s squad.

That is a good question , the second year jump did not happen. Brown Wynn Andrews mason Oberin could be a try in TC imo at least on paper it looks good

Especially Keene, he was mocked in the draft board a lot to us but not even close to the third round, the other TE of this class look like number two Tight ends as well so far at best. The worst pick was a kicker in the fifth a total waste because value isn’t there imo, I really thought this is the spot we finally take a WR or DT
