Will Dolphins make playoffs?

Another way to put it - if the season ended today and the teams currently qualifying for playoff spots went to the postseason, Miami’s record would be…

Miami vs playoff teams: 1-4
Miami vs non-playoff teams: 7-3

On their recent 7 game win streak, none of those 7 teams currently qualify for the postseason. Only one of those teams (Baltimore at 8-7) is above a .466 win rate on the season. The combined record of their opponents from their 7 game win streak is 36-69, or a .342 win rate.

If the season ended today, the AFCLeast would be sending three teams to the playoffs. It wouldn't be a stretch to blame scheduling for part of this outcome, given that all three teams got the Jets x 2, Texans, Jaguars, Carolina, Falcons and then the Saints and Titans in various stages of unhealth. Although all teams get their share of the dregs it seems.

We gave away the game here

We need to win, not just to make the playoffs, but to establish the right habits going into the playoffs

The Patriots are a serious team

The Dolphins are not

Teams Miami has lost to:
Buffalo (9-6)
Las Vegas (8-7)
Indianapolis (9-6)
Tampa Bay (11-4)
Jacksonville (2-13)
Atlanta (7-8)
Buffalo again (9-6)
Combined record of teams lost to: (55-50) or .524

Teams Miami has beaten:
New England (9-6)
Houston (4-11)
Baltimore (8-7)
New York Jets (4-11)
Carolina (5-10)
New York Giants (4-11)
New York Jets again (4-11)
New Orleans (7-8)
Combined record of teams beaten: (45-75) or .375
Yeah we’ll find out soon if that winning streak is real or not. I do not believe it is.

Yeah as I said above, the only team they've beaten during their current win streak above .500 is Baltimore at 8-7. Every other team has a win rate of .466 or worse, if you also get rid of New Orleans (who was starting their 4th string QB) then all the other teams have a win rate of .333 or worse.

You can do the same for our team:

Teams Pats lost to: 55-35 (.611)
Miami (8-7)
New Orleans (7-8)
Tampa Bay (11-4)
Dallas (11-4)
Indianapolis (9-6)
Buffalo (9-6)

Teams Pats beat: 58-77 (.429)
New York Jets (4-11)
Houston (4-11)
New York Jets again (4-11)
LA Chargers (8-7)
Carolina (5-10)
Cleveland (7-8)
Atlanta (7-8)
Tennessee (10-5)
Buffalo (9-6)

Pats are better than the Dolphins, but neither team has consistently beaten current playoff teams.

Pats vs playoff teams: 2-5
Phins vs playoff teams: 1-4

Two things:

We have a rookie quarterback. That's not an excuse, just reality

We have an experienced, dedicated, very very good coach. I like our chances

Also, as a painful reminder, the 2007 Giants had no wins over a team with a winning record, did only one thing well(rush the passer), were a sixth seed and Coughlin & Eli were under fire the whole season.

So I'm not limiting our potential

It is late in the third quarter, and Miami is losing to Tennessee 17-3.
And at the moment the Patriots are winning 41-3.

If both leads hold up then the Dolphins are eliminated from the #6 seed.

Should Miami lose this afternoon, then they are eliminated with any of these scenarios:
  1. Raiders beat Colts, Chargers beat Broncos, Steelers beat Browns
  2. Patriots beat Jags, Chargers beat Broncos, Steelers beat Browns
  3. Patriots beat Jags, Ravens beat Rams, Steelers beat Browns
  4. Patriots beat Jags, Chargers beat Broncos, Raiders beat Colts

If Pittsburgh beats Cleveland tomorrow night, then the Dolphins are probably done, even if Indy comes from behind to beat the Raiders.

Miami had an incredible run for almost half the season. They almost overcame a horrendous start to the season and almost pulled off a miracle.

Flores deserved a lot of credit. Tua and waddle are a force we will have to deal with for quite a while,

F*KK THE DOOSHFINS!!!!

Question answered. No it wasn’t.

A win is a win and their win streak was as good as the Patriots. Tenn is a solid team and is going to be a very hard out for anyone. And if they get Henry back, they could be serious contender.
