Who is Bill Belichick ? Sergio Leone or Ennio Morricone ?The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
The Good
For the most part, the majority of the numbers look good.
Time of possession NE 29 - IND 31
3rd down NE 40% - IND 20%
# of Plays NE 65 - IND 52
Net gain NE 5.6 YDS - IND 5.3 YDS
TDs NE 2 - IND 2
Redzone NE 50% - IND 50%
The Bad
Wentz was worse passing than Mac, but this was a night where Mac had to be where he was @ 70% completion percentage because the run game was misfiring.
Completion % NE 57% - IND 41%
INTs - NE 2 - IND 1
Rushing yards NE 81- IND 226
Punt average NE 3 @ 26.7 IND 2 @ 43.5
Return yards NE 21 - IND 76
Neutral zone infraction on the Indy missed FG
The Ugly
Perusing through the stats the loss comes down to 2 obvious big plays from Indy in my mind.
The Blocked punt for a TD - 14 - 0 hole Im not sure what the odds of winning are when you score like this, but it seems like its money in the bank when the 3rd phase of the game can put up numbers.
The Taylor TD run - Everyone knew that he was getting the ball. Despite how bad NE played, they clawed back and had a chance to tie it up.
BB in that Lids Lockeroom outfit. It doesnt work.
Reich had a hoodie on. Fyck Goodell, its hoodies from now on. With the sleeves cut off too.
Too bad they needed Duggar on that long TD run that sealed the game.Truth is we were lucky to have come back in that game. We needed Dugger’s fight with Pittman to spark us - very similar to a hockey team down 3-0 and one of the goons gets into a fight to get them going. And then we needed Wentz to turn the ball over. Without these, Indy probably blows us out.

I hope the league doesn't suspend him for that. They'll fine him most likely since he was ejected but I hope that's it.Too bad they needed Duggar on that long TD run that sealed the game.
Harry had a really good game. Wide open for the score and Mac didn't see him. They need to figure out a way to use Harry get Harry in end zone along with Henry and Jonnu/Bourne.
Lost hope with Meyers. Don't think he is an answer to end zone woes. Needs some more development to become like Edelman . Just doesn't have the knack in the end zone.
I think Harris was sorely missed last night, we need that one-two punch with him and Stevenson. J.J. Taylor also could possibly provide a change of pace in spots, I'm wondering when he might be available again.
lol. NO.Wentz played with a toughness
Can't believe both Agholor and Harry have concussions. This will limit us against the Bills. It sucks to lose and to lose WRs this way.
Mac dumped the ball in the flat late in the game to Stevenson for a quick 11 yards. He did exactly what he should have done on the 2nd INT. The problem with that interception is that he had Stevenson early wide open but he chose to look downfield. He needs to process that open throw in the flat quicker. And I've been saying this all year long because he comes late to the open guys short and prevents them from getting YAC. Especially on a 3rd and 2, you need to go there early.
I blame McD for this since it's been a reoccurring problem for Mac all year and it hasn't been eradicated from his game. Maybe it finally was later in the 4th qtr when he did what he should have always been doing.
Through more reps and seeing the kind of success you can have with RBs getting YACs after short dumpoffs, maybe he'll do it more consistently.
Ya, I've been underwhelmed with Agholor. He's like a wild puppy, that does a lot of running and makes a lot of noise, but produces nothing. I don't know that he is any better than Harry (except speed - which hasn't produced anything this year). We need a solid possession receiver.Harry had a really good game. Where was Bourne? He has been our best WR.Ya, I've been underwhelmed with Agholor. He's like a wild puppy, that does a lot of running and makes a lot of noise, but produces nothing. I don't know that he is any better than Harry (except speed - which hasn't produced anything this year). We need a solid possession receiver.
And I agree about Smith - he has greatly underperformed. I'd rather see Lacosse or Asiasi get some reps to see what they can do.
But, Henry is turning into the next sure thing before our eyes.
All that said, the whole passing game seemed out of sync last night. I expect them to come back dialed in, and really wanting to hand it to BUF.
When the LT breaks down, the OL breaks down. When the OL breaks down, the offense breaks down. When the offense breaks down, the team breaks down. When the team breaks down, the game thread breaks down. You’re right, but Mason wasn’t great either. The whole OL was mediscrete.
I’m still waiting for Bill and Josh to open up the offense, four or five receivers and hurry up offense, I thought we wouldve seen it last night in the second half.
Of course not.. he got beat by Frank Reich again.
When do we move Trent Brown to Left Tackle and use Mike Onwenu at Right Tackle? He was….not good. Did anyone notice the run play to his side when he somehow got turned around the wrong way and essentially ran straight into Bolden as he was trying to find a hole? That is a Keystone Cops move that I would expect to see in NJ, not from a Pats team.
I want to fast-forward to next Sunday, in hopes that they will rebound from this poor performance and wasted opportunity and actually look like they still have that 2-4 mindset. Part of me wishes that they had truly been dominated the whole game, so that I could chalk it up to “well, just one of those games”. The Onwenu false start on 3rd and goal was the mental back-breaker for me. I’m convinced that they would have won that game if they had made it 20-14 there. My wife isn’t a football fan but she roots for the Pats to win because she knows that I will be in a foul mood for a week if they lose.
