OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

But Brady has weapons. QBs like Wilson and Rodgers would have won the SB with those weapons too. Did we mention that Tampa has a ferocious defense too?
(MEDIA narrative, not mine).

Rogers should win the MVP because he's on a team that doesn't have the depth of the other top teams, and because they've been winning even with all their injuries. Also...

The Packers should be the favorite in the NFL because they have the most talented and balanced team in the conference.

Imagine being Mac and getting told if even was that he was not needed for this game.
The thing is...

In 2008, we had a similar situation, with Cassel as the QB. He threw a total of 8 passes. So nobody should have been surprised by the Patriots approach yesterday.

This is the concerning thing about the game. It's a great win, but you realistically can't win like this long term.

...maybe this year, since AFC is pathetic lmao

But you get the point. Mac is going to have to be able to throw in bad weather. And not every team is going to be choking gutless cowards like the Bills were.
Things have absolutely been breaking in the Patriots' favor for most of this season, and that's something to taken into consideration when you look at the team moving forward. On the other hand, the team has mostly been able to take advantage of those mistakes, and that's also something to take into consideration going forward.

Jimmy threw 8 passes in the NFCCG two years ago.

He was throwing that ball to the deeper receiver, instead of throwing to the nearer receiver who was open. That's not a wind issue.
I don't think Beasley was any more open than Gabriel Davis was when Allen had to release the ball. That's how it looked like when Allen was winding to throw:

Mills was playing outside leverage on Davis while Beasley was running a post. The idea behind it was probably to have Beasley take Bryant with him while clearing a throwing lane to Davis. The thing is just, due to the zero blitz Allen had to release the ball while Bryant was still in a position where he, who was reading Allen's eyes, could peel off of Beasley and step into the throwing lane to break up the ball. Had Allen attempted to make the throw to Beasley, Bryant would have dove onto it to potentially break up the pass as it was reaching Beasley. Maybe it would have had a better chance to be completed than the attempt to reach Davis, but Beasley was by no means clearly open when Allen had to release the ball.

I think you guys may be missing the point regarding Mac pass attempts last night. He didn't have three pass attempts because of the competition or his skill set per se. It was specifically because of the weather, the wind. This was a question many of us had this season about how Mac would do in poor weather conditions. It was very clear last night that the Patriots did not trust him to throw the ball in the wind at all. If the playoffs do go through Foxboro then that becomes a concern because bad weather is very likely in Foxboro, much worse than last night.

We disagree. Not only is Beasley wide open, with his defender clearly beaten, but he has a much easier RAC available to him.

Freakin hillarious how Brady always seems to get the breaks...but then again, the 2020 Bucs had a really tough schedule. I just think it's hillarious how the non-Pats AFC East is a dumpster fire from 2001-19 and then Brady leaves and the Bils and Dolphins emerge. Even if Brady had played in 2020, it would have been a tough battle to win that division.

Then in the NFC South, Drew Brees retires, Aaron Rodgers might be heading to the AFC, and suddenly the NFC is the QB poor conference where Brady's biggest thread might be Russell Wilson, a guy who might not even make a deep playoff run with that supporting cast. The NFC just a few years ago was so stacked all over at QB and now it's completely bombed out.
It’s almost like he knew it

Man in the Arena was excellent today. Had Moss and Strahan on. The perfect season meant a lot to the Patriots. Too bad it ended how it did

I see your point. Maybe Beasley was to drag Bryant with him to open up the passing lane for Davis but the fact remains Beasley had nothing but open space in front of him and once Bryant stopped running, he was even more wide open. I disagree Bryant makes any play on a pass to Beasley, but he made the right call. Beasley is way more clutch than Davis so I don't understand why he wouldn't have trusted him more to make the catch in that critical situation.

The wind may have played a factor in his decision, since Allen said he preferred throwing into the wind which is to the left since throwing to the right made the ball carry like the back shoulder throw to Diggs that went way over his head.

I love that season and hate it at the same time. LOL

The Bills are 7-5 and have a +140 point differential. Average game is a win by over 11 points.

They’re 1-4 in one possession games. Expected wins is 9.4.

Last year, they were 6-1 in one possession games. Expected wins were 10.6 (they won 13.)

That’s 2.4 below in 2021 and 2.4 above in 2020.

Their record over that time is 20-8.

Losing last night dramatically changed this season for them and could potentially leave a lasting mark psychologically. Time will tell.

Oh they’re losing their next two games. I don’t know who they play after that but who cares.

Think about how things just flipped on them. When this season began, they were considered one of the top AFC favorites. They cemented that further when they beat the Chiefs and were then considered the best team in the AFC with Allen at the center of the MVP race. Then we catch fire while they falter verse some weaker teams and it all came to a head last night in Buffalo and they lose with us ramming the ball down their throats. On top of that, we have found our future quarterback in Jones. So the division is no longer Buffalos for the next 10 years as some believed. In fact, the Patriots will be the favorites next year and if the dolphins sign Watson they may even leapfrog the Bills.

Because Allen decided to play hero ball instead of just making the easy, and correct, pass, Brady's now in a position where he can (unofficially) clinch the NFCS for the Bucs, and the AFCE for the Patriots.

The story lines are all delicious.

Tua is playing too well atm for Miami. Look for the Panthers who have NOTHING at QB to go after Watson.

I hate the word "trap game" because I don't believe they exist. And I think it's more about the media and fans being overconfident than the players being overconfident.

But I expect there will a pretty ridiculous amount of picks coming this week for the Bucs to beat the Bills. The Bills are still probably a top 5 overall squad and are stronger than their win/loss record. In addition, I don't necessarily think they're just going to emotionally collapse. In fact, if they beat the Bucs, they're again playing the Patriots for the division, making that last loss much less relevant.

So, I think the Bucs are better and should win the game, but it's one of those where the teams are fairly close but the media perception coming in is that one has gained all this momentum and the other is entering free fall mode. I expect a competitive game.

The only thing disappointing from last night's game is that little info was gained about the Bills secondary without White.
