OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Just because a player doesn’t make the pro bowl doesn’t mean they are not all star caliber players. Evans, Godwin, Suh, Vea, Barrett, White, David, and Marpet were excellent players prior to 2020. Why do you think Brady went there in the first place?
I will agree on the point that he chose a team where he knew he had some weapons to work with and a defense that could be great. I wouldn't count it as an all star team though because prior to him they hadn't made the playoffs. Now if he had gone to the Saints that would be an all star team.

Sure. Of course the Bucs had a great foundation. They’re an excellent team with a lot of draft success over the last few years.

But - they have a championship contender roster (not including the QB situation) like about 8-10 teams in the league. It’s the salary cap era…there are no super teams. And if you’re going by accolades, the Chiefs (7), Packers (7), Saints (5) and Bills (5) were loaded with pro bowlers in 2020. The Bucs were playoff underdogs to three of those teams.

Ever since the Super Bowl, a game that no one in the media predicted, since they all picked the Chiefs (and they picked the Packers in the NFCCG) there was an insane narrative shift in the Bucs composition and talent level.

As I said before, the Bucs have a great roster…but it’s not like most playoff teams have anything significantly worse when you subtract the QB from the equation.

The “super team” dig is really stupid…it’s a pitiful attempt to make it seem like Kevin Durant joining a 73 win team. This was the worst franchise in the league, objectively speaking. They had some great young talent, but if Brady hadn’t gone there, no one would have ever known or cared.

You named seven good players who were already on the team. Is this unique? This makes them “a team full of stars”? Did you see the other potential suitors Brady had? You could easily name seven good players from the 49ers, Saints, Chargers, Titans, or Patriots.

The answer is: one pro bowl player in 2020. Jason Pierre-Paul.

The Bucs had one pro bowl player in 2020.
The Bucs had three pro bowl players in 2019.
The Bucs had one pro bowl player in 2018.

The Bucs have not had a first-team all pro since 2005. What a star studded franchise.

The 49ers and Saints both said no to Brady, so cross them off the list. For the Chargers and Titans, I would argue Tampa had better players pre-Brady, especially on defense. And you are equating "pro-bowl" with being an all-star. There are plenty of star players that don't make the pro-bowl.

And nearly all of those players were on the 2019 team that went 7-9 the season before Brady got there. Some "all star team"...

You are talking collectively. I am talking individual talent.

Nor won a playoff game in almost 2 decades.

I never said "all-star team." I said all-star "crew," meaning he had a group of all-star players to work with.

Not sure what the debate is then. This is exactly what I'm saying. It's mainly SB1 and amfootball who are arguing that Brady went to a team and magically made them super bowl winners. The truth is, under the new playoff format, the Bucs would have been 2 games of being the 7th seed in 2019. In free agency, he found a team that was talented and he, together with other pieces he brought in like AB, Gronk, Fournette, made them super bowl winners.

Garbage post.

Super team

i guess the Bucs have no shot to win the Super Bowi this year because apparently outside of Brady there is no talent there

So you've dismissed the idea that 2019 win/loss record and results are an objective way to measure the Bucs strength coming into 2020. Then all-pro, pro bowl isn't an objective way to establish how many star players they have. Let me guess...it's just "a feeling" you get. And other teams don't have those star players that don't make the pro bowl, to such a degree as the Bucs, for whatever strange reason.
The truth is, under the new playoff format, the Bucs would have been 2 games of being the 7th seed in 2019.
That's Rob levels of weak point making. Pretty sure I've seen you on the opposite side of the argument about the 2008 Patriots, pointing out (correctly) that record is more important than playoff status.

Attempted trolling but too stupid to be successful. Nice try.

It’s a shame that the Bucs hired Schiano and he ruined Josh Freeman who looked like he might be the best QB they’d ever had.

Half of the posts I'm reading here are responses to that troll. I'd call that a success for the troll.

You're right. I'll stop responding.

Evans moving up the all time TD list and pulling away from Green, Adams and Hopkins. They had 65, 62, and 60 TDs respectively at the beginning of season while Evans had 61.

When Brady came to the Bucs, many of their fans were convinced that Evans is a surefire HOF. In reality, he is far from it but may get there thanks to Brady.

He has to have dominant seasons and beat out his peers. He only has 1 dominant season of around 1500 yards and Hopkins/Adams were ahead of him.

If Brady plays 2 more years, I'd say Evans has a good chance of getting around 15 TDs and 1100 yards per season.

That and with deep playoff runs and playing 5 more years, I think he'll be a HOF. He would be retiring with maybe 120 to 130 TDs and be top 10 all time. Also, he should have ten 1000 yard consecutive seasons if Brady plays 2 more years.

Does it matter? The fact is before Brady arrived they hadn't won a playoff game in almost 2 decades and haven't even made the playoffs since 2007. That's not what I'd call an "all star team"/ Team of all stars/crew of all stars or whatever you want to call it.

The evidence says Brady pretty much singlehandedly made them a Super Bowl team. He brings a lot more to the team than just what's on the field.
