OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

The Bucs will be rooting for Wilson almost every game. Seattle plays at Packers, home vs Rams, and two games against the Cardinals. Of course, it isn’t crazy to think they can get a wild card and wind up being the Bucs first round opponent if the Bucs don’t get a bye.

Things keep getting worse for the Saints.

Payton: We can convert our janitor’s wages into signing bonus to free up $35 in cap space.

Loomis: Yeah...bad news. We already did that a few months ago.

That's probably the order of my MVP ballot right now. Brady, Lamar, Allen
As of right now, Allen should not even be in the MVP conversation.

His team along with the Chiefs were the preseason favorites to be in the SB. Now in danger of not even winning the division. How many times has a SB team or MVP lose to a bottom of the league team such as the Jaguars? I'm guessing it is probably very close to never.

Brady in his weekly podcast tonight spent 20 minutes basically saying that the NFL Players Union sucks, the owners keep steamrolling over them, and the fact that they’re being forced to play a 17th game just proves they’re all just interchangeable commodities and every negotiate comes down to the owners saying “take it or leave it we can hold out longer than you” which is only made stronger because the owners collude with eachother to keep their books and profits closed even to the players and coaches.

So that was interesting.

I'm just glad he stayed away on commenting on the Rodgers situation. Besides Aaron, Brady is the biggest name in the league by far.

He's right on that.

I mean he's right. Goodell sucks. Thursday games and a 17th game, makes the overall product worse for a few more bucks. Players union is inept.

Do you really think the product is worse? I think the games have been great this year, even the Thursdays.

Force teams to play games 3 days earlier? Yea definitely not in the player's interest at all.

For the next CBA, the NFLPA will concede their right to bargain during future CBA talks. They’re almost there already in essentially throwing away the ability to holdout.
What I also don't like are the salaries the bottom of the barrel players get, such as UFA, practice squad, and late round rookies.

If a player can make a NFL team, they should be richly rewarded especially since the average career length is what,..3 or 4 years.

Many don't get much more than your average Joe while the cap money is funneled to the star players.

Do the likes of Mahome and Prescott really need to earn 40 million plus a year? And projected to earn 1/2 a billion over their careers. While teammates are making less than 100k and might only last a season or two.

Yeah that issue isn't limited to professional sports. America is in love with top-heavy organizational structures.

Pay Without Performance

They've tried addressing that (league minimums). When they increase the minimums because of service time, older players get cut for younger, less expensive players.

A strategy used by lots of businesses.

It's like business schools have disappeared the concept of expertise. "This engineer with 25 years experience is too expensive, let's get some kids who don't know how to do crap in here."

Bottom end employees are often 100%, or nearly 100%, fungible in the particular job/role that's paid at the bottom. No fast food company needs the world's best french fry cooker manning the deep fryer, for example.

AB was still in a walking boot as of yesterday. I have asked this twice already, what the hell is going on with the Bucs and their injury timelines because everyone who gets hurt seems to be fine then is gone for a month.
