OT: Raiders WR Henry Ruggs fatal suspected DUI crash; (update: Desean Jackson to replace him on Raiders…lol)

156mph with a loaded gun and twice the legal limit in his blood. Do any of you want to take back your statements on how badly you feel for him?
It is a sad situation and I do feel bad for him. He deserves everything thats coming to him though.

Its especially sad because just last week he and DeVonta Smith encapsulated the phrase "We made it" in their celebration:

And now its all gone.

I don't feel bad for him at all. I feel bad for the family he ruined. You can get away with drinking a bit and driving but he drank like a savage AND sped like a maniac. Don't do both and probably you are fine. Loaded gun? I'm sorry I will never understand why that's necessary. Lots of good things I'm sure happen when drunken people drive around with loaded weapons in sports cars.

156 MPH with BAC over 2x the legal limit.

156mph......hammered.....with guns in the car...at 3:39am

Curious to know what Saban said during the pre-draft about his character and off-the-field decision-making ability.

This guy should be in jail for life

I have no idea how these usually play out. But hard to imagine an NFL player with expensive lawyers gets anywhere near maximum sentence...

Doesn’t matter. They have his blood alcohol level, it’s high profile and someone is dead. The minimum is two years. A prosecutor is going to be able to say

“This man drove while intoxicated, felt the need to put everyone on the road in danger, showed more disregard for safety when he decided to break even more traffic laws driving probably 100mph faster than he should have, and as a result a young 23 year old with her life ahead of her got trapped in a car suffering from injuries as it was engulfed in flames and she burned to death in one of the most horrific ways possible”. All while you probably have relatives crying while hearing that.

OK fair enough. I just feel like whenever these athletes get in trouble they end up with significantly less severe punishment than expected.

And I hadn't realized the Raiders released him. It kind of changes the dynamics the prosecutor faces, IMO. He's no longer a member of the local team, he's just a dude from Alabama that smashed his expensive sports car into the back of a lady's Toyota at 4 AM while driving drunk.

So much in this case depends on how the prosecutor sees this case. As you say it's easy to see it be 20 years. OTOH there could be other precedents that make it hard to ask for the full 20. Don't think he has a record, he's a young guy, in theory you can make a case he'll be able to turn his life around if given another chance.
IMHO, it depends on what hard evidence exists. I read reports that he was intoxicated, and I have little doubt that was the case, but I am wondering what the hard evidence is. I think I read somewhere he took a breathalyzer but I have no idea if it is true or, if it is, what the results were.

EDIT: I just saw the tweet Bill Lee posted. The speeding alone would be enough for manslaughter, but the BAC of >2x the legal limit (I am assuming that means he blew greater than 0.16) is hard evidence indeed.

Put him away.

156 mph....forget it. He's done.

Surprised he was doing that on surface streets....yeah Vegas and California have long 3 lane straight roads, but 156 is for the racetrack or a highway....and he was drinking....

****ing sad....that woman and the dog...pisses me off...

I don't know if this thread has mentioned it yet, but allegedly he was at a Top Golf drinking himself silly. Take that as unconfirmed rumor though.

At least three bystanders stopped to help.Among them was Alexander Hart, a security guard for a nearby condominium community, according to the report. After hearing the crash, he got into his security vehicle and drove to the scene.

When he arrived, the report states, he heard screams coming from the Toyota. The driver was still alive, he told police. But he couldn’t pull her out, he said, because she was pinned inside the SUV.

This just gets worse and worse

Jesus, 156 MPH, why would you drive that fast on a city street?

let alone, while **** faced.

He will be in jail much longer than his NFL career would have lasted.
