Brandin Cooks unhappy - should Bill bring Cookie back?

Houston should want to cut bait with Cooks' contract, as they really aren't going anywhere.

Harry and a 4th for Cooks. Despite him catching for a 1,000 yards in NE, I think he was misused. This time I'd like to see him used more in the screen game using his speed to get cheap yards. Pats tried throwing too many 50-50 balls to him which is not his game.

The LOL part of that statement is that Harry is only useful as a blocker. Great use of a 1st round pick, BB!!
Meh. They drafted a guy known for winning contested catches and not getting separation...and they won't throw him contested balls. You saw his game on that Hoyer throw last week.

They knew his game when they drafted him. Still don't get it.

And still think if I were the Falcons with Matt Ryan, I'd grab this guy if he's available, and I'd throw him those balls.

Exactly, Harry's college scouting report NEVER in a million years fit in with the Patriots profile of what they want in a WR. The system demands quick, shifty, intelligent WRs who run great routes, and get separation early so they can run the 'paper cut' 'dink and dunk' system that reliably completes a lot of short yardage passes and occasionally breaks a few long gains on play action and screens. It was a DUMB indefensible draft choice at the time of the pick and in hindsight. And there were a lot better prospects if you wanted to break the mold and go after a long yardage X receiver, such as the guys we passed on DK Metcalf, AJ Brown, etc. etc.

Give me Cordarrelle Patterson straight-up for Harry, and you have a deal.

I just figured that with the pick (and Demarius Thomas and Josh Gordon), they were going to go with size over quickness.

For the record, had I been drafting, and I said this at the time, I would have taken AJ Brown or Deebo.

Then, as the second round inched along, with Metcalf still there, I'd have grabbed him, as well - too good to pass up there.

And then, as we got deep into the draft, my pick would have been Renfrow, who was all over the place saying he wanted to be a Patriot 9as was Deebo).

Instead of Harry, Williams, and Froholdt, we'd have been stuck with AJ Brown, DK Metcalf, and Hunter Renfrow. It is what it is.

Not so sure - although it's intriguing. Isabella would NOT be replacing Harry. He'd be replacing Gunner.

Harry is being used primarily as a blocker, and he's doing a pretty good job of it. Isabella is tiny.
Oh yeah, didn't mean to imply AI would be replacing Harry, and I agree he'd be taking snaps away from Gunner, who I like... I just think if we're gonna add a WR, I'd rather it be AI vs. Cooks. I think Isabella would fit well here.

If it were me I would trade for Cooks and then trade Harry. You can control Cooks for 2 years at a reasonable cost and potentially not lose a ton of capital if you send, say, a 3rd for Cooks and get a 5th for Harry. No idea if those prices are realistic but just spitballing. If you need a Harry-type guy for some specific type of game plan you still have Wilkerson on the PS.

You're still demoting one of Bourne, Meyers, or Agholor to the 4th spot...and look at the typical production/targets/snaps of a 4th WR (Harry is getting more because he's doing a ton of run blocking).

Yeah it would be Agholor. But in reality one of those guys is gonna be banged up at some point.

He is one of the reasons we lost that game to the Iggles and their detestable fans. I will never forgive him or BB for that truly awful day. No Thanks!!

I'd do that in a heart beat. Patterson would fill a need in receiving, running back and help in kick returning. I don't believe Atlanta would go for it.

You seem to conveniently forget the best WR the Patriots had during Brady's entire run. No, I am not comparing Harry to Moss, but to imply that the Patriots can't win with a big WR that wins the jump balls, means you failed to watch the Patriots during their 16-0 2007 season.

He got injured in that game? I wouldn't count him as the reason we lost that game

We’d only be on the hook for about $3M. We have a rookie QB. His addition would open up the offense, and the playbook, for Mac.

Agreed, and he has a knowledge of the system which is a huge plus. But what happens in 2022? Are we on the hook for $15M in 2022? Is that cap space earmarked for JC Jackson? I am not a cap guy but this seems to be a question of what happens after 2021, and will Houston make a trade.

If I remember correctly wasn't there a lot of "chatter" about Brandon Cooks being a "head case"??? And he did not fit in with the team during his time here..

The team is deploying safeties as CBs .....but adding a redundant WR piece that would necessitate BB sitting one of his 8 figure off season purchases is a priority?

We need more help at CB as many here mentioned but that doesn't mean someone talented will magically become available. I think you upgrade any position possible as long as the $ is reasonable and doesn't destroy chemistry of the team or that skill position. I think they should try to get Cooks and do something with Harry or Nelson.
