Brandin Cooks unhappy - should Bill bring Cookie back?

I would agree with your assessment, but think about this. At the time the Pats were trying to placate Brady and give him more help. If you are Bradyl one of the things you need is a big WR who can win contested balls, and back shoulder passes, something that Brady threw well. The last 3 WR acquisitions that the Pats made while Brady was here were Henry Sanu. and Brown. 3 guys that seem catered to Brady's game. Harry was slow getting out of the gate and Sanu suddenly couldn't stay on the field., and Brown just self destructed.

People can criticize the results of those two acquisitions, but they should stop saying that Bill wasn't responsive to Tom's needs.

Come on, Ken. At no time during his collegiate career was Harry ever an intelligent route runner. He was flat out a jump ball specialist, and his skill set was, and is, completely antithetical to the philosophy of the offense we run here, as well as being far from complimentary to Brady's strengths.

His weaknesses are literally every single thing you need to be a skilled route runner: lack of separation, speed, and twitch, no explosion, not fast in and out of breaks.

Sorry but he is well and truly a headscratcher of a pick.

We really should have just signed Cooks back in 2017 instead of crappy Hogan and now awful Agahlor. It is pretty ironic that so many want him back now on the cheap and he is only 28. We could have had him this whole time.

He was getting WAY overpaid, he is not a game changer that demands that kind of money.. we got a 1 year rental out of him and then recouped our 1st round pick, all in all it was a good 1 year move but im glad they never invested in him long term because he regularly comes up short in big games and isn;t someone that can take over a game

yes, but not sure we have any money

Was reading this article from the feed up top and did a little digging:

Looks like Cooks is unhappy about the Ingram trade, but there have been signs for a while he's not very happy in Houston. Well, a lot of players aren't happy there.

Based on a few other tweets I've read and my own (probably shoddy) cap math, I think a trade for Cooks would only cost around $1.5 million or thereabout this year. The tough part is that next year his salary is $12.5M with a sub-$1M roster bonus and $500K in per-game roster bonuses. Should total out at around a $13.5M cap hit next year.

Now, that's a decently sized chunk of cap, but if you consider it as a two-year deal, it's more like 2 years/$15M which is more than fair for Cooks (IMO) who is only 28 years old and still very fast. The Pats are still trying to figure out if Agholor is gonna work out as their deep threat guy, and Cooks already knows the offense and is a guy teams are needing to defend over the top in Houston. The key question I suppose is what Houston would want in return. But figured I'd see what other people thought of the idea. Bring Cookie Back?

If only we had that 11M we gave Agholor. Or the money from a 2nd TE we don't use at all in the offense...

Harry was slow getting out of the gate and completely ****ing sucks anyway, Sanu suddenly couldn't stay on the field and sucked while he was on it, and Brown was sand-bagged by the gutless owner as a means to cowardly mask his own personal peccadillos.

People can criticize the results of those two acquisitions - as very well they should, but they should stop saying that Bill wasn't responsive to Tom's needs or the needs of really Any starting QB in the league, after all, and that is to have - at Minimum - competent, league-average weapons at his disposal.

fify

AJ Brown, Antonio Brown & Emmanuel Sanders vs Kneal Harry, Mo'Snuze & a $5M cap hole... Hmmm....

No to Agholor; yes to Harry. In a heartbeat.

Why? Agholor sucks. I wouldn’t give a pick, and I would even release Cooks after this season, but straight up its a steal, good for bad . Agholor was a terrible signing.

Agholor is averaging .2 fewer yards per target than Cooks...7.6 to 7.8. More than $5 million/year cheaper than Cooks.

Do go on...

And half the production ( Cooks had over a 1,00 yards and 7 touchdowns, Agholor is under 300 with 2 TD’s.) I’m not in favor of trading for Cooks but a straight up trade for Agholor would be a steal,

Why are we even talking about this. There is nobody in the league who considers Agholor as good as Cooks except for morons from John Carroll U.

.

Succinctly, money: Brandin Cooks Contract Details, Salary Cap Charges, Bonus Money, and Contract History | Over The Cap

They traded their 1st & 3rd round picks for Cooks & a 4th. Paid him $1.5M for that season (the 4th year of his rookie contract). Picked up his 5th year option. Found out he wanted big bucks in free agency. Traded him and a 4th round pick to the Rams for their 1st & 6th round picks. Used the first round pick to draft Isaiah Wynn.
So basically we got a one year rental for turning a third round pick into a sixth round pick (ignoring salary and round off error).

Because Wordsmyth said “ No to Agholor, yes to Harry.” Which is what I responded to.

That said, who are you to comment on the posts of others when 99% of your posts are about Josh MacDaniels? Everyone on this board is sick to death of your same repetitive posts day after day but you just keep beating your agenda to death with absolutely no regard for this site, so stfu.

If the Texans are going to draft a QB in the first round next year (which is likely), they are going to need Cooks. He is young enough to be a productive weapon to help develop a young QB early in his career. Ingram, on the other hand, is past his prime and likely to have been gone from the Texans after this year anyway.

Not buying that Cooks just fills Agholor's role in this offense. Cooks was the team leader in receptions and yards in 2017. He is a reliable contributor. Agholor is a gimmick who makes one big play per game than vanishes.

Cooks would be a huge asset to the Patriots. They really, really need a WR who can stretch a defense. The current crop of Patriots WRs have trouble getting open; adding Cooks would change the whole equation since the opposing team's top CB would have to cover him making it easier for the rest of the crew.

Mac needs WRs who can get consistently open and he does not have that now meaning he has to hold onto the ball too long, exposign himself to sacks or worse, etc.

I disagree, I think they need a swiftly WR if we are going to go WR. I will prefer a LB if there is a hidden gem buried on someone’s roster.

We once were intersted in Ericson buried on the Bengals depth chart.
He could be a target.
Or Raymond from the Lions.
I wouldnny mind Slayton from the Giants.

Trading for any of these guys is like throwing darts blindfolded. It's not like this team is winning a Super Bowl this winter. We're better off keeping the picks, and waiting for a Cooks or Beckham to be released this offseason.

If a trade is in the works, I'd rather it be for an impact defensive player.

He had a nice catch last week, but send over Agholor.

Bill could've drafted Slayton (aka the dude who made Stiddy look draftable) but instead just had to have himself some Little Lord Byron the Coward... What a ****ing franchise-killer that 2019 draft (and 2018... and 2017... and 2020...) was... Vagiants ain't trading him anyway.
