Worries over Wynn reached dangerous/deranged levels lately so let us find strength and comfort in watching Wynn's actual performance free of expectations. I understand this is not very popular way around here or anywhere for that matter nevertheless..

First we welcome mostly restrained yet often worried Mike Reiss with his enthusiastic tweet upon re-watch:

Here from an angle where his double block (first DL Williams then LB Phillips) is more visible:

This was hardly the most impressive Wynns rep in the game but shows a certain attitude & capacity that was visible throughout the game.
Still it was good sport from Reiss to post it after he spent previous day lamenting Wynn not playing “like a 1st round pick“ and Patriots decision to sign Wynns 5-y option: Patriots' top disappointments include O-line, defense in clutch, coaching
Its a sentiment shared by about 100% of this board. But at least he was a good sport.

dont know what his (or anyones) criteria for “playing like a 1st round pick“ is (esp. for single game) but im happy hes happy his expectations were met.

Personally im just interested in how he plays as starting LT for the Patriots. This year was again a bumpy ride (like the whole team), having some good games (esp in run blocking) that of course went unnoticed and some bad games (esp. PP) playing/practicing through (i guess) minor injuries, missing time through covid etc.

But he has proven most of the time that when healthy he is maybe not dominant but still special LT that you can ask to do a lot of different things.
Here another double block with rare agility and quickness for LTs:

This was far from perfect game. He had some whiffs in PP and a (random) holding call. He obviously needs some healthy continuity to get his confidence fully back. But his performance and “special edge“ shown on Sunday are hopefully a good sign dancing bear is coming back with more of:

It’s a bit of a bummer that he has yet to put together a complete season. Wynns inconsistency and Big T’s inability to get on the field means Bill is more than likely going to be spending a premium pick on an OT. Wish they’d stabilize that line, and work on pairing Barmore with another special DT.

I think most other defensive positions are a bigger need than DT. The linebackers lack top end talent and the secondary lacks depth, whereas we invested pretty heavily at the DT position the past year.

He might be the most important guy to monitor after Mac this year. We owe him 10m next year, and as of now he’s the one protecting mac’s backside.

His first few years half the board acted like Wynn was a stud. Now half the board acts like he is Marshall Newhouse 2.0. He isn't great by any means and has put up some real duds this year but he isn't as terrible as he's been made out to be lately.

Agree, CB, S and LB are huge needs.

DTs also can be found up and down the draft.

Guess it all depends on if you’re a chicken or the egg kind of person. An elite defensive line makes everyone on the field better imo. Whether Bill spent all that money doesn’t matter. You get a big, strong guy to pair with Barmore, then work your way out to the edge. We’ve got 2 future pieces in Barmore and Judon. Guy, Godchaux etc. have proven to be nothing more than role players. I agree with all of your other comments. LB’s are old and lack athleticism, and DB’s are a mix of everything. Young guy about to cash in, old guy on the wrong side of the hill, and a bunch of role players often times forced into the wrong role due to injuries or lackluster play. I’ll take whatever we can get if it means improving the future of any of those spots, but I still would prefer establishing a strong trench first.

Do it against Bosa next week.

He is a decent lineman, but we payed for somethng better than that. And if he lasts another two weeks without yet another owwie, I'll be amazed. If he plays through it, I'll be even more amazed.

The fact that a player like Barmore was available at that point in the draft shows how that position is valued. I agree you absolutely need those guys to play a key role, but there are many of them who are decent, and every year they end up dropping much lower than predicted. The only guys who rise are the players who can rush the passer from that position.

It was the first time this season that competent unit of 5 was even fielded..
Good to see they finally understood this simple philosophy of their own :)

Since some are still cracking their heads weather to move Wynn to LG or bench him..

quickness, fluidity & power to neutralise speed-to-power bend rush (by the best rusher in the league)

speed and agility to destroy moving targets down the road

One would think you would like to keep a player like this on the field, on the outside and on the left..

He is still not at his best (as some others wants you to believe) . still some work to be done in PP (confidence, anchor, re-direction) but you will not see many LTs playing better vs Garrett&co.

-.-

As a Pats homer I wish all the best from Wynn. That said history has shown us he's "streaky" and not all that "available". What does BB say? "Best ability is availability?" He certainly hasn't been available ENOUGH. When his head and health are in the game he's worth the 5th year pickup. When it's not, he's not. pretty simple and I'm not one to count on him.

Deus .. your profile girl (I assume your wife or significant other) is hot. Congrats, brother.
I’m assuming you are wrong about his involvement with the individual in the avatar….
(But if you are intentionally sending a sassy burn, I’m here to say ‘oh snap’)
