Worries over Wynn reached dangerous/deranged levels lately so let us find strength and comfort in watching Wynn's actual performance free of expectations. I understand this is not very popular way around here or anywhere for that matter nevertheless..
First we welcome mostly restrained yet often worried Mike Reiss with his enthusiastic tweet upon re-watch:
Here from an angle where his double block (first DL Williams then LB Phillips) is more visible:
This was hardly the most impressive Wynns rep in the game but shows a certain attitude & capacity that was visible throughout the game.
Still it was good sport from Reiss to post it after he spent previous day lamenting Wynn not playing “like a 1st round pick“ and Patriots decision to sign Wynns 5-y option: Patriots' top disappointments include O-line, defense in clutch, coaching
Its a sentiment shared by about 100% of this board. But at least he was a good sport.
dont know what his (or anyones) criteria for “playing like a 1st round pick“ is (esp. for single game) but im happy hes happy his expectations were met.
Personally im just interested in how he plays as starting LT for the Patriots. This year was again a bumpy ride (like the whole team), having some good games (esp in run blocking) that of course went unnoticed and some bad games (esp. PP) playing/practicing through (i guess) minor injuries, missing time through covid etc.
But he has proven most of the time that when healthy he is maybe not dominant but still special LT that you can ask to do a lot of different things.
Here another double block with rare agility and quickness for LTs:
This was far from perfect game. He had some whiffs in PP and a (random) holding call. He obviously needs some healthy continuity to get his confidence fully back. But his performance and “special edge“ shown on Sunday are hopefully a good sign dancing bear is coming back with more of:
