Nelson Agholor

I think it is clear to most that agular is a mediocre wide receiver at best, who struggles to track the ball, can not run the entire route tree and drops passes, especially in pressure situations.

However he is the only wide receiver on this roster that is faster than most of our defensive linemen, and therefore must be in the lineup.

it is a painful necessity that this guy stay on the field.

ps: if people really want to dissect a bad signing, they should be looking at the smith signing!

To paint with too large a brush, in order to drive the point home:

Agholor is a high end WR3, being paid like a high end WR2, to take the role of a WR1.

Just another piece of incontrovertible evidence that this team needs an actual GM, not a brilliant head coach whose ego conveys the delusion that he's a competent GM.

Don’t worry this week will be the week that N’Keal breaks out and becomes a true #1 WR. Which will leave everyone else with lesser roles.

Cue the flying vegetables…..

Clearly we overpaid for mediocrity. We are paying 11 Million this year to Agholor. What can we do to get rid of this albatross of a contract and who would you target in the future to be Mac's number 1? Mac is a highly promising top notch young QB who needs a top flight WR he can rely on.
Agholor has been a major disappointment… Meyers so far has been 10 times the receiver and how much is he getting paid? Nelson needs to step up and earn his paycheck….his drops have cost us games!

We've got the worst of both worlds with Agholor. Have to deal with his drops, which become crushing given the pressure the offense is under, but our o-line won't allow us to unlock his deep ball skills.

He's on the books for $15m next year but due to the way we structured the deal we only save $5m if we cut him. Bad all the way round.
Good points and so far another blunderous signing by BB…..that’s an impossible situation now with his contract…..but who knows maybe he will step up and make some plays

I've been b*tching about negativity in threads, so I really want to not be that guy and pile on. However. The drop in OT was a catch that a top flight, big game player makes. Edelman makes that play all day long.
Hang on, Brady’s last real drive with the Patriots, an Edelman drop at midfield stalled the drive. Even more of a clutch situation- playoff game, down a score with a few minutes left. Cherry-picking on clutch drops like this isn’t fair in itself, but from a broader perspective, Edelman used to drop plenty of passes. He’s my favorite patriot of all time, but let’s be reasonable.

Evaluating a wr’s season on one dropped pass really is not a good way to evaluate. And he’s made a couple contested catches, too.
However, I’ve been really disappointed that we haven’t been able to hit shots downfield to him. We did complete a nice long pass to him last game, though. But I think the lack of consistent deep threat impact from him is due in part to poor pass pro.

My opinion from March…

Sure I do. They frequently shaded a safety to his side of the field. The safety has to be deeper than the deepest man unless his assignment is an underneath route. Ruggs’ route tree consisted heavily of 7, 8, and 9-routes. Unless it was Cover-0, he was going to draw that one safety. The Raiders saw a lot of Cover-2, though, because of Waller. Most of Agholor’s big plays came when he was singled in man, when there was a two deep shell and the other safety was playing the Robber role, or in zone. I can think of three specific instances in the All-22 film I watched in which he had a safety dedicated to his side of the field and still made a play through double coverage - first Chiefs game where it looked like the CB actually blew the coverage and left Mathieu trying to clean up the garbage, Bucs game where he legitimately caught a touchdown while being doubled, and the Colts game. That’s pretty much it. That’s not to say he won’t be effective with us. He will. I just don’t think he will be as effective on the deeper routes and will probably be more effective piling up YAC. Now if we get another legitimate WR who can threaten defenses outside the numbers? Sure. He could probably have a career year.
