I forgot Brady lobbied for Sherman in 2019. That’s Gronkowski, Sherman, and Brown, three future hall of famers, all playing at discounted deals on the Bucs.
Brady had the right idea in 2017. They could have powered the ship a lot longer by kicking cap hits into 2021 and beyond. They moved on from Cooks, Patterson, Amendola, Blount, Gronkowski (failing to pay him), and whiffed on FAs Cook and Humphries by playing stupid contract mind games. Basically every decision was the wrong one. Then they made all the wrong moves with Sanu, Thuney, McCourty, Gilmore, etc. I’m sure the AB decision was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
If Wickersham is right and Bill wanted Jimmy G. because, deep down, he’s human and he saw Jimmy as “his guy” and his chance to prove himself, then the moment Jimmy was spitefully traded for less than his value is the moment of no return. It makes sense that during this time he interviewed with several teams and considered leaving. He would have been better off hooking on with a team with draft assets and a promising young QB. Whatever the **** this “rebuild” is, it‘s a ****ing disaster and will continue to get worse. It would have been best for the Patriots and Bill if he’d left in 2017, again, if you think Wickersham’s source is accurate about his mindset.
Bill’s legacy would have been fine in another city no matter what, and the Patriots would have kept Brady and done things differently.
