PostGame Thread Official Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Texans

Immediate Postgame Reactions
It wasn’t pretty but with a rookie QB and all the new free agents, it’s a building year.

From that perspective, I’m happy with what I’m seeing despite the lack of discipline.
We will get better in time…end of story!
holy crap I agree w PR

Regardless of the level of competition, the team showed a lot of heart coming back from a 13 point deficit. Although it might have seemed like a fairly common occurrence during the dynasty, it’s only the 12th time they’ve done it in the last 22 years. They’ve only come back from 15+ 6 times in that span. Multiple touchdown comebacks are exceedingly rare.

I'm so relieved to see Henry getting involved. knowing what we've all witnessed with Brady/Gronk, it seems like once Mac/Henry click, the opportunity is huge in this offense. It seems it's all about confidence and comfort right now. Everyone is thinking so much. We shouldn't expect the passing chemistry to be here already, but this is the situation. They have to overcome unfair adversity to be in year 2 form in order to compete up to standards. It seems to be even more so for Smith - a total mental/confidence thing. He'll have his day again.

I wonder if Smith is having difficulty grasping the playbook. We've seen better receivers not being able to grasp it. Bill has said the TE position is the 2nd most difficult. Just a thought.

Did that punt really happen yesterday? Surreal moment. Right up there with butt fumble and snapu.
Yup. It was nice to see the opponents coaching and clock management be the mistakes that we're used to thriving off of.
Now, if we can start turning the table on the turnovers, this team could still finish with a winning record... or dare I say, even a respectable record. 2 losses by a combined 3 pts is going to haunt us.

what makes you think belichick will ever draft weapons like Mike Williams and Keenan Allen for Mac Jones?
I don't.

He'll likely draft for other positions, but you know that. WRs will be mostly mid-tier veterans that have shown their capabilities to lessen the risk of busts, later round development guys or trades, but again you know that too.

And the fact that once Mac was upright and not eating the opposing defender's shoulder pad or the turf (i.e. seeing it's not the WRs, it's the OL that's the issue) , the non-weapon having Patriots passed the ball extremely successfully.

But that doesn't fit the narrative of only #1 WRs win football games and make QBs good.

i don’t think mac can win a super bowl without a dynamic playmaker on offense

is our goal to make the playoffs someday or is our goal to win another super bowl?

I'm sure it contributes - having to think more than play. But, it wasn't his lack of understanding that caused him to alligator hands 4 perfect passes, and marionette juggle an INT into the D's hands vs. NO. His production could look a lot different if not for that horrible showing, which he acknowledged. So, I think he's still mentally trying to climb out of that hole.

Irrelevant to what I was answering. They dominated Miami and lost on a Harris fumble - if he doesn't fumble there, who wins that game? Which team played better?

They played the SB champs to a tipped-third-down pass and a ding off a goalpost - a game that YOU KNOW Brady wanted badly, so badly.

It is what t is. They're 2-3, could well be 1-4. But to say they've got little talent to me is just plain whiny silliness.

They have talent but they aren't playing the way they should. Sloppy penalties, turnovers, OL getting beat. Hopefully coaching can clean up some of those areas. The outcome of at least 2 games was decided by turnovers at inopportune times. And nearly cost us Houston game

Some of it doesn't make sense. Because the OL has talent on it. The tight end connection is improving as they've realized you can use Henry in the RedZone the past 2 weeks.

I don't think you need a Hall of Fame WR to win. We've seen the focus on taking those guys out of the game. Having a stable of serviceable weapons where it's impossible to cover all of them is really the key. The set we have right now is actually great, we just need them all to gel and the line to keep blood off of Mac's clothing.

Once that happens and Mac adjusts his throws a bit. I think we'll be golden. I saw a couple of throws I think Mac needed to put some more speed under and get the ball there quicker. I think he focuses on throwing the most catchable ball possible, but some of those mid level throws he just needs to laser in there.

Coaching NINE years at a crappy college OLine , before joining the Patriots to lead them to one of the worst 4 weeks of OLine play in team history? Wow. Tell me more about the next hot candidate coming out of the high school ranks too, I'm all ears.

.
Making stuff up again I see.
This is how coaches are developed. Its how football works. Perhaps you should learn something about it.
The first 4 weeks of 2014 were worse, just to give you one of the time of examples refute your typically ignorant overreaction comment.

There are a lot of receivers to spread the ball around to. Henry has 20 catches and Smith has 15. Extrapolated to a 16 games schedule thats 64 and 48 for a season.
Receivers have 31,17,16.
Seems like a good distribution.
Rbs have 36.
Perhaps there are some RB catches that could be going to TEs but it doesn’t seem like there are a lot more to go there.
The way this offense is built is to take whatever the defense gives, so just like the early brady years there will be different guys getting more or less attention each week.

Which is also why a diva receiver would be undervalued here and probably angry.
