Week 5: Other NFL games

If the Chiefs trade for a legitimate 3rd receiving option, they'll go on a winning streak that might last the rest of the entire regular season. The "Blueprint" on Mahomes is the same "Blueprint" that teams had on Brady in 2009. You double Hill (Moss), scheme Kelce (Welker) well enough that he can't ruin you all on his own, and pretty much ignore the rest of the receiving crew, because the rest of the crew can't get it done.
Yeah but the difference is, Brady will throw to the 3rd option, or hand the ball off. He also does not drop back 15 yards and look to run around. I have seen pats teams that didnt have a good first option. The problem is Mahomes needs to be a QB. stop doing no look passes, stop trying to sidearm it into the dirt. Have quick passing if they are getting to you and not everything has to be a 50 yard home run. hand the ball off, play keep away. Pick your way down the field moving the chains. Etc

The offense will get better.

How so, if not from either Gordon or some addition from the outside?

I still take Mahomes over any other AFC QB in January/February.

January? OK
February?

AZ has beaten some very good teams.

They look unstoppable.

5-0.

Franchise QB.
They beat the Rams, thats a very good team, the rest they beat. meh. Nobody plays good teams every week though, 5-0 is 5-0.

Last season, the Chiefs had 6 receivers with more than 35 catches. This year, for whatever reasons you want to throw out there, they're basically using only 3 receivers (Hill, Kelce, Hardiman).

The nfc is more top heavy this year thus far. Az, rams, bucs, gb, possibly dallas all look super tough. In the afc you have buffalo as elite… possibly chargers, the rest of the good teams are a tier down from that though.

That being said, I don’t ever see Mac getting to Allen’s level. Allen is top 3 in the NFL. I think Mac peaks at top 10.
Josh Allen was viewed by many as a complete bust in his first year. The internet was full of comedy videos of him overthrowing open receivers and missing easy targets by five yards. He has dramatically improved no doubt. But based on Year 1, Mac is well ahead. Can he progress like Allen has? Who knows.

Well the AFC title game is January 30th.

I said I'd take Mahomes over any AFC QB in January.

February (SB)? Depends. If it's Stafford or Murray, I take Mahomes. Brady? I don't take Mahomes.

Power rankings differs from week to week. If the Chargers rip off two straight losses, they won't be considered #1 in the AFC. If Cleveland rips off four straight, they get bumped up.

Mahomes has been terrible in the Super Bowls, which was the point of my response. Just going on track record and trends, you'd be better off going with Allen. He might not be quite as good in January, but he's got a real shot to be better in the Super Bowl.

And, on a note of interest to the discussion, but not the specifics above, the Chiefs have lost their RB for a while.

The Chiefs have lost their starting running back for a few weeks.

Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire suffered an MCL sprain and is out for a few weeks, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Chiefs will live or die with the pass.

Big Andy is hell bent on throwing it. And frankly CEH hasn't been very good.

Long story short, not a huge loss.

I see, maybe, a 1 team difference. That's it.

That's the Chiefs' running game, and now CEH is out, and Thuney is either going to be out or playing through a broken hand.

Maybe being 2-3 will wake this team up.

No more Mahomes commercials.

No more starting games slow.

I'm waiting for the "On to Cincinnati" moment for this Chiefs team.

Newsflash: You lost the SB. Badly. You are no longer a tier who've everyone else.

Wake up team!!

Are you accounting for the defense? Because in Allen and Jackson’s case their defenses are much better than yours. If the defense doesn’t improve Mahomes will have to be play damn near perfect to make up for it.

As a Chiefs fan, I'm glad we got Washington & Giants in two of our next three. Two wins.

But the Titans, Raiders x 2, Chargers, and Packers games are going to be tough. Heck, the Bengals are no longer pushovers.

Just get into the postseason. Don't care if it's by division or WC.

There have been several teams to win four straight. And ultimately the SB:

1980 Raiders
92 Bills were a WC. Won three straight and lost SB.
97 Broncos
2000 Ravens

2005 Steelers
2007 Giants

2008 Cards won three straight before barely losing the SB.
2010 Packers
2011 Giants
2012 Ravens

2020 Bucs

Nobody remembers the regular season. It's the postseason that matters.
Only 4 of the teams you listed won all 3 playoff games on the road, which is what KC would have to do. I don't recall any of these teams having the worst defensive points per game allowed.

Keep hoping though.

No.

I was just saying many teams won four straight games to win the SB. I never specified home/road splits.

If the Chiefs win the division (Still likely), they would only need to win two on the road. Either way, I'm not panicking yet. Just concerned.

They'll be ok for the postseason.

Will they get it done in the postseason? Idk.

Corey Davis isn't a true #1. Never had a 1k yard season. Got replaced by AJ Brown while Brown was a rookie.
He's on track for a 1k season playing for the 3rd worst offense in the league. We just disagree. That's fine.

Chiefs aren't going to throw away a season. Even if we still have years of contention ahead of us.

Spagnola will be fired and I believe picks will be dealt to improve the defense by trading deadline.
