OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

There’s zero doubt that, right now, Tom Brady is the best quarterback in football. Even though he’s surrounded by incredible talent on offense, he makes so many more elite level throws than anyone else. Seems like 4-5 times a game he’s pulling a magic trick. Mahomes makes some cool plays, mostly with arm angle, legs, etc, but when it comes to where the ball is actually placed, regardless of all the style points, Brady is the best. Deep passes, intermediate passes, short passes. He’s playing as well as he ever has.
No doubt and I feel like he missed some throws today too as well as he played.

Agree. Mahomes is head and shoulders above Jackson, Allen, Carr, Mayfield, etc. Chiefs are still the top team, but they’re quite vulnerable to getting knocked off in the playoffs. Their defense really does suck. It lowers their overall peak performance capability.

Tampa will annihilate them if they meet up I actually want it to happen. Tampa will just take the deep ball away again without worrying about that mediocre run game

Very fortunate to not be 0-2.

Chubb with a rare fumble and the punter deciding to try and run instead of just punting it when he had the time to at least get it 20-30 yards off the side of his foot.

I still think they're the best team in the AFC, but are very beatable and screwed if one of their star players gets injured.
It's got to be a special kind of burn for Chiefs kingdom to look up and see the Broncos and Raiders above them.

For the last 3 years, they've been trending down, still winning, but the # of close games keeps going up year after year. Teams have started to figure them out, Mahomes making more mistakes. They could've easily lost 3 more games last year. The SB hangover is real. They'll lose more close games this year. They make the playoffs but not as top seed. Hell, they may not even win their division (unlikely).

If teams are going to leave Gronk and Evans single covered with the ball inside the 5 (maybe even the 10), the significant size advantage that gives the Bucs means that's going to be a pass a lot more often than not.
Such a great point. IMO, it is actually safer to throw it up to those two than have Rojo run it and fail to extend the ball for a TD.
Plus, Brady is so locked in right now that one-on-ones with those two is like taking candy from a baby.

Also, something not getting mentioned. The Bucs put up 35 points on O and AB did not have a TD. When Brady says they left a lot out there, they really did. LOL

Exactly. Rojo seems to be having multiple big let downs or mistakes per game.

It's also nice to see Brady have lots of short yardage TD for a change. Outside of 2007 and 2018/2019(where NE had a hard time scoring), 4 or 5 TD per game was standard but running backs would often get 2 out of 5 TDs. Manning had a boat load of those short yardage TD.

Right at the end of Brady's presser, it is the last question, the reporter asks him about getting a lead in the division after 2 games and how Brady is used to that but many of his teammates are not and how nice it is not to be looking up at anyone. It really struck me as for so long we just expect Brady led-teams to be at the top of division but the Bucs for over a decade were usually third place or last. It must be awesome for them to be in the drivers seat knowing they have an excellent chance to pull into pole position for the top seed in the conference if they can beat the Rams.

Sharpe asking Skip 10:1 odds that Bucs lose both Rams & Pats games.

Skip: Both?
Shannon: BOTH! B-O-F-F

LMAO

That Evans juke was exactly the move The Squirrel used to score a TD in the SB vs the SeaHags

It was...but he also broke the guy's ankles. I love Edelman, so this isn't a knock in any way, but imagine going against a 6'5" super fast, high jumping athletic freak like Mike Evans and being 1-on-1 like that. Holy crap.

Superbowl hangover is bogus. Explain how the Bills went to 4 Superbowls in a row and lost every single time. You can't, because it's made up like the Madden curse

I mean, that's the ultimate SB hangover since they kept on losing.

I don't know...I think if they played right now, it would be a competitive game. Kansas City's offense is still pretty ridiculous. I know that Tampa's gameplan worked well in the Super Bowl, but there's that saying you can't step in the same river twice. Kansas City has a remarkably better offfensive line than they did in the Super Bowl. There were at least five drops by Kansas City that would have resulted in first downs or touchdowns. A big question would be whether adding Thuney and Brown would make their running game somewhat effective against Tampa Bay's defense, especially if TB is going with deep safeties.

However, other than self-inflicted errors, I don't see any reason to think the Kansas City defense can even contain Tampa Bay's offense. They'd just have to hope for a handful of field goals in the red zone. Advantage : Tampa Bay, but I wouldn't pick them to win by 20 points again. I think they're the better team, though they could certainly get outscored by the Chiefs, as any team can. The margin of error for Mahomes would just be lower than the margin of error for Brady.

There are always exceptions. The Pats won in 2018 after losing in 2017. But in general, the SB loser has a really tough time making it back to the SB.

Call it the result of a small sample size, but only 2 super bowl losers ever went on to win it the next year and one of those teams had the GOAT.

The AFC was a steaming pile of hot garbage.

edit: From 1985 to 1997 (The 84-96 seasons), the NFC won 13 consecutive SBs
