I'd still jump through hoops for an extra million or two if it meant only 5 months worth of work....(shrugs)

Hoyer isn't gonna make the same money when he retires....
Says someone who doesn't have $20 million...

When you have $20 million, you make your money jump through hoops while you watch the waves, the volleyball, and the pretty people on the beach.

EDIT: Hyped, it's true, though.

No.

The point TC is making is Tom had a great 2016, was 40 years old and Bill wanted to showcase Jimmy a little.

His overall point is historically speaking, the starter gets a ton of reps in preseason.
So he wanted to showcase Jimmy so he could get that mammoth #2 from San Fran?

Actually, they gave up THREE first rounders. Absolutely incomprehensible trade.
They gave three away but received one so you're both kind of correct

I'm sure they were hoping for more in preseason but it never happened.

I've said this before, if Uche can stay healthy, he is going to have a monster year....my binkie

The unstated in this is that if the front seven is as disruptive as they look like they can be...

AND they are able to protect against the run well enough to not be facing 3d and short all game enabling long, stamina killing drives...

they can still be GOOD even without Gilmore as great front sevens make CBs more effective (such as Williams). With Gilmore...even more growing confidence that this is a playoff team once the coaching staff starts SCHEMING this defense.

I think BB was really expecting Brady to decline so was trying to get Jimmy G ready. If BB wanted to trade Jimmy G he would have done so in April when he could have had one of the Browns’ 1st rounders. That he thought Brady would decline during 2017, maybe not to the point of needing to bench him, but to the point where he would have traded him in the offseason and resigned Jimmy G (although as we found out later, Kraft would never have allowed a Brady trade based on his handshake deal with him; Kraft would have cut him instead). And therefore giving Jimmy G the reps in camp was best for the team long term.

But Brady didn’t decline, and Belichick was forced to trade Jimmy G at the deadline or let him walk away for nothing that offseason. We didn’t have the cap space to pull off the tag-and-trade like we did with Cassel I’m 2009 (and some say that itself messed up the Pats 2009 offseason free agency options).

The DL is not getting nearly enough attention, it's disgustingly good, hopefully they hold up over the course of the year... they just need to get Gilmore back and the defense as a whole will be maybe the best it's been in many years. Definitely a nice group to help along a rookie QB who may not generate a ton of points in the beginning.

yeah, big change to last year in the front and better depth. I hope our young guys take the next step with vets like HT,Judon..

Depends upon how you want to retire. If you’ve spent the last 11 years making 2 million per year, 20 mill won’t support that lifestyle for 40 more years before even getting into inflation.
There is also the consideration of having additional money to pass on the his children and grandchildren during his lifetime.
if you spent the past eleven years making 2 million a year and managed to bank 20 mill you’ll be able to sustain that lifestyle indefinitely, while the remainder of your passive income from the 20 mill continues to grow your nest egg.

Yep.

BB was working all the angles in 2017. The deal Tom signed in 2016 had team-friendly outs in 2018 and 2019 if they decided to move on from him. I'm convinced BB played Jimmy to a) elevate his trade value and b) motivate Tom by sitting him most of preseason. I don't buy into the, "BB wanted to get rid of Tom and Kraft told him no." stuff but he wouldn't rule it out.

Yep. The 2017 season proved Tom still had it and BB decided to move Jimmy.

Why do you assume "making" = "spending" ?
I don’t but if you are saying someone is ready to stop earning and retire, wouldn’t that mean they have enough assets to not have their income go down?
