BB moved on from TB in 2014. The day he drafted JG. The story is a bit more complicated if one wants to really understand it. And again it was personal. Not business. AT ALL.
Completely disagree.

NE made a logical move to get a replacement QB for a player who was approaching an age that most NFL players are retired. Luckily, Brady defied the odds and continued to produce and lead. Three SBs later, the team and the player were again at a crossroads. This time, they parted ways.

For your argument to make sense, you need to believe that Brady is such an Aaron-type-baby-drama-queen that drafting a player at his position renders him catatonic. I choose to believe Brady is quite tough and he proved he was still a winner.

You are too good of a poster to try to rationally argue with the irrational.
I guess you were right after all. This is exhausting. I’m too old for this I guess.

Lets get back on topic as far as who you think will be the starting qb for game 1.....as for myself, I am leaning toward Cam at this time.

I also think it’ll be Cam. I wish it wasn’t. Having said that, I want the starter to excel. If that starter is Cam, then I hope it goes well.
I wonder if BB considered a 2 QB in game platoon like what SF seems to be doing with Lance and JG. Could be interesting to try and defend that.

My prediction : neither SF nor NE will employ substituons at QB. I’m guessing : Lance & Cam win out. In fact, if both vets « win out », I predict Cam lasts longer than Jimmy. But who knows ? I’d love Jimmy here.

I think it’s Cam, but he’s not going to make it the whole season (maybe COVID, maybe injury) and then Mac’s going to come in and Cam won’t play again.

For me, best case is Cam starts, kicks butt, misses games due to Covid related stuff (so it's not an injury related situation), Mac comes in and kicks butt the rest of the way and wins it all (with Cam getting a TD in a goal line situation in the AFC champ game), some desperate team picks Cam for big bucks in FA, and we get a great pick out of it.

Were they both playing against the starting D?
Mac has played against starting D's like the Giants and ripped them apart to the tune if 26 of 30. He also went 10 for 20 in another session against them. He's a rookie, that has a higher ceiling than Cam and their floor is about equal

Cam is the starter until Josh McDaniels believes that Mac Jones has command of the entire playbook. The challenge here, especially with the Patriots, is that the playbook grows inorexorably as the season unfolds and they put in things specifically for opposing teams. If Cam is winning games with his arm and his legs, he will keep starting.

But we know Cam and his play are erratic. I believe we'll see Mac Jones as the starter. My guess is week 10 against the Browns at home. The Patriots will be heading into the critical part of the season where efficient, mistake-free football will most be needed.

If Newton plays half the season we should start looking to next year.

If nothing has changed, why if belichick saying no decision has been made? It would be easy to say “Cams our QB” but he stopped saying that.
If it’s an open decision, there is nothing at all to support sending newton out there.

The “flu” haha. The flu is soo 2019 man

You didn’t hear, the flu all but died last year.
According to the CDC, we only had 2038 reported cases of the flu in US last year. Down from 38 million in 2019.

Bill might want to go with another medical issue, because covid clearly all but eliminated the flu........

"Brian was our starter, but he ate a bad egg salad sandwich from a truck stop, and now it's coming out both ends. Mac will get the nod today."

Mac looked mortal last night - but IMO it was largely because of the backups he was in with. It was a big mistake in judgement by the Pats to not give Mac a chance to play with all the starters for at least 1 or 2 drives. If they were going to only play Cam for a minute, they should have seen what Mac could do with Meyers, Bourne, Agholor, Harris, White, and mostly... the starting OL! Otherwise it's not a fair evaluation.

Your last assumption comes out of nowhere and has no logical connection with what I wrote. It would take some time and lenght to explain what my position is and what is that supports it. It would take the patience to go through the last 7 years of this franchise history looking step by step at each relevant decision taken. So if you disagree, fine. If you want to go through it let me know.

How did he look mortal? 10-14, 156 yards, 1 td and a 132 passer rating. If he gets to play with the 1’s can he do better than that?

Could be he wants to wants to announce it's Cam until he must, to mess with Flores a little.

That would sound more like announcing Jones

The next 2 weeks are going to be a tale of two extreme emotions for me.

On one hand, I am so excited about the potential of this team, in particular the running game and pass rush. I so badly want Man-teats Mac to start from day 1. He looks like a real QB. I would not get mad at the inevitable rookie moments (go check out some of Brady's 2001 games for perspective), but watching him grow with a strong OL and D around him would be awesome. No Viagra needed!

But if Cam starts, just play The Price is Right lose-the-game sound to show my disappearing excitement. Wah-wah-wah. I thought watching Philip Rivers' throwing motion was cringy. At least Rivers could read a defense.

And I know Cam is starting. That same delusional part of my brain that thinks I am going to win the lottery when I buy a ticket still holds out hope that Belichick is going to cut Cam and let it ride with the rookie. As long as I am dreaming, I could become a porn star some day too, I suppose.
