45 Man Roster With Less Than Two Weeks To Go

Agree 100% about NKeal. See ya NKeal Harry. Another total draft bust just like Chad Jackson and Aaron Dobson from the same blind OC.

.
I'll maintain that Dobson had everything it takes to make it in the NFL, but the combined inability of Brady and JMD to soften the expectation for a needed rookie, totally burned him. He was forced into major action as a rookie, and did fairly well. This team just knows how to destroy young WR's with good talent and potential. But... Harry is fully to blame this time. No clue why.

Just because people hate the idea, doesn’t mean Ferentz isn’t going to make the roster. Clearly (1) BB loves him (2) while limited, the coaching staff views him as someone who can help this team.

Having said that : doesn’t seem like any other teams are crazy about him, so Ferentz could also be one of those “you’re cut, but stay close as it’s likely we’ll call you soon”.

Are you really suggesting that we have never had 3 players capable of playing center?

Let's be clear. Maybe Mason or Wynn

can play center. I don't think so. As has been pointed out, Thuney was the emergency center for years.

You have decided that Herron can play center. Provide backup and this discussion can go away.

The rules changed in the last CBA giving teams an additional active offensive lineman. We can choose that player for flexibility, including an emergency center, or not. You seem to favor a 5th OT, since Onwenu is already active..

QUESTION
If we activate 8 OL's, and presuming that Cajuste is ahead of Herron, when would Herron play? Many believe that if there is an injury at OT, Onwenu would move over. Even if this isn't true, then the swing OT would play. I would think that Onwneu would play OT if there were TWO injuries. Do you agree?
Anyone can be the emergency C. It’s not a mysterious skill. Whether it’s Herron or Mason or whoever. They will take a few reps at practice and do some snapping on the side once in a while. Like thuney did. It’s not brain surgery.

Can a coach also QB the scout team? Would Hoyer accept a coaching position? His family loves the area and he only signed for $1 million so it wouldn't be much of a pay decrease if any.

Of course there is. Players get injured.
???

You said that we didn't need to worry about 2 injuries. Now you seem to be worrying about 3. In case of injuries, we have used a swing OT, and an IOL backup for many, may years.

OK, how often have we had 8 active OL's? In the past, the only time that we have done this was when we didn't have TE's and we needed an 8th OL for jumbo sets.

Coordinators average $1M a year. QB coaches or assistant position coaches make much less.

Coaches is requires a lot of time,

Hoyer would be better off on a Practice Squad until someone needed a QB for a few games. Or, he could simply wait until some needed a backup QB.

BTW, do you want him as a coach so that he can pass on his superior decision-making skills to Jones?

We will always have 8 active OL because the 8th is a free active spot.

Let me say it again.
We will keep the 8 best players. We will have one of the 8 prepared to be an emergency C in case both Andrew’s Ave Karras are injured, just like we did with Thuney.
We will not keep a worse player because they have C experience.
It’s really not that complicated.

I agree that it isn't that complicated.

We need to have an emergency center. My position is that there is no need to have our #5th OT active; 4 active OT's is plenty. And, among the 7 active, we have at least 4 guards.

But yes, you are correct, Herron will be active if he is the #8. And if there are THREE injuries, he MIGHT get some reps.

And just BTW, I think that we both know who Belichick would favor as the 8th OL. Herron is not that man, although I agree that Herron could (and maybe should) make the roster. (see below)

Ferentz.

If Andrew’s and Onwenu (or mason) get hurt, what is your ol?

We need a healthy kicker and long snapper.

The rest seems to be in reasonable shape. Who or which positions do you think are needed? I don't think that any are essential, although I think that some would certainly help (FB and a C/G for me). I don't even care which player wins the C/G position.

I give up on the 3rd QB, the 9th OL and on the STer (understanding that Bolden can make it by beating out Taylor or he could come back after Game 1.

PICK 8
1) 3rd QB
2) 8th OL (G/C)
3) 9th OL
4) 5th WR
5) RB
6) FB
7) 14th Front Six Player
8) 9th DB
9) 4th STer (in addition to Slater, Bethel and Davis)
10) K
11) LS

================
OFFENSE (20)
QB Newton, Jones
WR Agholor, Meyers, Bourne, Olszewski
RB Harris, Michel, White, Stevenson
TE Smith, Hunter, Asiasi
OL Wynn, Onwenu, Andrews, Mason, Brown, Karras, Cajuste

DEFENSE (21)
DL Guy, Godchaux, Wise, Anderson, Winovich, Barmore
LB Judon, Hightower, Van Noy, Uche, Bentley, Perkins, Jennings
CB Gilmore, Jackson, Jones, Mills
S McCourty, Phillips, Dugger, Williams

SPECIAL TEAMS (4)
SPEC Bailey
ST Slater, Bethel, Davis

Just to nitpick a bit:

- I am not sold on Cajuste...yeah he has looked good in the past week...but can we depend on him? Limited body of work so far! He may make the 53, but the 45? Not sure about that.

- No way is Olszewski our #4 WR this year, IMO. Especially with Henry and Smith already dinged...I think 5 WR's in the top 5. N'Keal would be my choice unless we manage to trade him. I would be scared to roll with only Agholor, Meyers, and Bourne even if we go 21 personnel 80% of the time...

At first I didn’t think we’d carry 9 OL. But, Wynn and Brown aren’t durable. I’d keep Herron and Cajuste. Dropping my 4th TE.
Not sold on either. What are our options?
Need to coach em up.

I think Harry makes 53. Then, goes on IR.
I think we’ll cut and then pick Wilkerson back up. We could scour the waiver wire. Not sure what’s out there.

I’d also like to IR Jennings and pick up a free safety. I don’t think Mills is a safety.

Yeah let's review what McDaniels did in Denver. Got fired after losing 10 straight. What's next, you gonna claim he was reaponsible for their SB later? The guy has failed 3 different times without Tom giving him a career. He's lucky that Mac is going to be good to save his career

.

Im talking about WR choices MacDaniels made, you are talking about make believe. Belichick gets credit and blame for draft picks the Patriots make, because he’s the one with final say. You are trying to blame MacDaniels for choices Belichick made out of an irrational hatred for him that you are unable to control, and everyone who posts here knows that to be the case.

Would you guys take your McDaniels spat elsewhere? This is about 53.

I would keep Oslzewski over Harry 100 times out of 100 times. He’s an all pro ST player who is as dangerous with the ball in his hands as it gets. He’s baasaaad man who is going to be a serious weapon for them. They need to find as many ways as they can to get him touches.

We can keep both. Problem solved

I love Olszewski, but say Agholor or Meyers get hurt....I'd rather have Harry out there. I can see Olszewski being Edelman II, but he isn't there just yet....and Harry blocks as an added bonus.

No, mainly to free up a roster spot but Hoyer does have 14 years of experience if Jones cares to listen.
