Patriots-Eagles Joint Practice (8/17)

There’s no doubt he’s making the team as they are not putting him on the PS. At worst he’ll be the 3rd early down back.

Stevan Ridley played his first year in 2011. No fake injuries for him.

And where did the term “Foxboro flu” originate from? Media creation? Fan creation?
At worst, he will be the inactive back, as befits the #4 RB. This is fine.

Teams exaggerating injuries with young players to give an excuse to put them on IR is a real thing.

And even if it is not a real thing, it is a fun thing. Andy has a great mind and is wonderful at formations and strategy, but is lacking in understanding the more subtle "fun" postings.

Kingsbury in 2003 was considered to have faked an injury. I do believe that he had a college injury history. But that was long ago, and disputed then and now.

Are you saying it's impossible to lose if you get a pick 6?

Two picks 6’s and your mathematical odds go to ****. I can guarantee you the list of games where a team threw two pick 6’s and still won, is a lot shorter then you think. Not Impossible, just not probable. Pick 6’s are daggers in the game of football.

Who cares? Real or not, it is the Foxboro Flu. Just a bit of fun. Real or not is not important. It is a red shirt rookie year either way.

Yes but it often protects the player as well.

Most of the time the young player has missed significant time and would be cut if not for IR.

Jennings may get some reps at ILB.

Agreed, and I think I remember he already has in camp? Can't recall exactly, and definitely don't remember if he did well or not. It's smart of him to look for other areas to help his case, be in ILB or ST.

If Harry is a good RZ TE, that is a way to make the team.

It's weird because I feel like that was what was expected of him from the get go. Not being a TE in title, but running some of those similar routes down close to the goal line, while also still being a capable blocker (for a WR). Now with injuries to the tight ends, that could actually be what gets him in. That said, my original post was referencing the role of the WR4 (be it Harry or anyone else) being pretty minimal when everyone is healthy, including the TE group. I doubt in that scenario we'd have 20 snaps to give.

I wasn't being super serious with that question, in general I think it's subjective to talk about who "won" a joint practice but because the format is not a game you strategically try to win, that logic doesn't really hold. The pick sixes are great, but they were ultimately 2 of many reps. The rest of the reps, according to both Pats and Eagles media, generally favored the Eagles overall, meaning there were more reps that went Philly's way than ours. Not sure how anyone (like the person I was originally responding to) could get mad at someone describing that as the Eagles "winning" a joint practice.

The absolute scariest thing for the patriots this season…. Duggar in coverage!

the absolute scariest thing for patriots opponents this season…..onwenu firing off the ball on a running play!

Its like a pitcher in spring training trying to master a new pitch and gets beat with it, He's not going to get better if he doesn't practice throwing it and who cares if he gets dinged in spring training. That's what its for.
I ran into an old friend yesterday who, when we were kids, came up to bat against me in a CYO baseball practice between our 14 yo team and his 15 yo team. As the batter came up to the plate the manager of our team came out to the mound and showed me how to grip a pitch he called a slider. I didn't get a chance to practice the throw at all and the first time I threw it the ball went right to the side of the batters head. Since he wasn't wearing a helmet the ball made a sickening thud sound and he was taken away in an ambulance.

Imagine if a youth manager did something like that now. He'd be run out of town.

No it isn’t. There is no need to “exaggerate” and injury. You either are injured or not. There is no rule about how long you have to be out to go on IR and a player can refuse IR and ask for an injury settlement.

Like this guy?

By the way, this had nothing to do with what I was originally referring to.

FFirst, let me make clear that I'm not evaluating the specifics of today. Second, practice is not the time to be the checkdown king, especially for veterans.
Could certainly be true. Depends on the situation, since they’re playing against another team they could’ve been trying to do an actual real “we need points, take what they give you” situation, or maybe not. But as you said you’re not evaluating the specifics of today, and we don’t know the details so no point getting too deep into it. Fair point though.

I think you’re referring to the the Logan Thomas catch last week? Yes, that coverage was awful as he just watched Thomas make the catch.

You are joking right? This was in January and the player admits he was injured.
