Patriots-Eagles Joint Practice (8/16)

Talk about a hissy fit, your the one who needs some Ice Ice. Whatever the media is saying the fact remains that Newton has improved on his knowledge of the offensive system. He IS making his share of good throws, but you'd hardly know it. You know that this is early. Jones isn't seeing anything really that he will see in a defense that prepared all week for what the Pats do. And then all the DIFFERENT defensive systems that people run week to week.

Brady saw this in the QB room and practice for a full year before he became a starter. Brady WAS a game manager early on for years (my demarcation point where he went from a game manager to game difference maker was the 2004 superbowl game) That's a full 4 years for it to happen, and HE was and is the GOAT I can remember even in 2005 and 2006 there were still a lot of people who thought of him as a game manager. It wasn't until after 2007 that he was universally acknowledged as ONE of the top QB's

My hope is that Jones will be the QB Chad Pennington might have been if he hadn't been injured or even better. Jones has shown that he is super smart and can process the field fast.....FOR A ROOKIE!! He will need thousands of reps before he will go from a game manager tot a difference maker. IF he starts right now I wouldn't be surprise to see veteran DC's make him look like a........rookie QB Not the savior that everyone hopes he will be. And he COULD be that guy, but not THIS year. THIS year the best we could hope is that he is a good "game manager.
+
Yet Newton is still barely ahead of Jones seeing those same simple defensive looks. Jones will be a better QB by 4 games into the season. Theres no reason to hold him back. Newton isn't the answer, his athleticism isn't what it was and he doesn't have the processing power to make up for it.

I think you'll find Mac can be more than a game manager by the end of the season.

Lmao

No problem happy to answer.
Many ex players and reporters have stated that Bill values the veteran experience and leadership of Cam Newton. No matter what some here think of his decision making and processing skills. Bill reportedly values that he has performed in the NFL and played very well as well as took his team to a championship game at the pro level.
If Cam was a rookie and playing the same he is now I don’t believe there would be any doubt as who the starter would be.
Many with far more knowledge of the Patriot than myself and believe it or not Da Bruinz. Believes that Mac would have to blow Cam away to start week 1.
By all reports he it’s a closer contest than we as fans believe, and Bill is believed to go with Cams past proven track record if the players are close.
Funny, Brady did that and he wanted him out of town. I hear Joe Montana is a vet and performed in the NFL...hey maybe we can get Flacco...

There's something to the "defenses not knowing how to defend us" claim though....but what I saw was a decisive QB who saw that there were no options other than taking off and running or throwing the ball to reliable Edelman. That Newton can win games in the NFL. He's the same guy that is 2-0 against the Brady Patriots. The COVID brain fog was a real thing, IMO. That coupled with losing targets in Edelman, later Burkhead, White having an off year, and etc.... just snowballed.....

But that's just my opinion. I disagree that it was a myth. And I also am not denying that Cam still has not looked better yet in camp

Well, it is the thought that counts after all.

"Hospital Balls" sounds like an STD.

There is a difference between saying Bill values experience and leaders over untried rookies. I completely get that and would agree. I would even go so far as saying the rookie has to be clearly much better to win the spot. Just handing the job to the rookie sets the locker room up for chaos, which is the last thing that any coach should want.

However, that is different than stating the it goes against Bill's core beliefs to start a rookie over a veteran.

In the end you have to look at all the positives and negatives when you make that decision. Destroying the morale in the locker room might not be worth a slightly better qb.
You know what hurts moral? Losing. How will moral be if we got all those players and then go 7-9 again because we have a QB that cannot pass? I mean the smile on the sideline only works so long.

2-0 against Brady. lol....I love that one. Do you know how many players had covid last year? I have not heard that excuse from any of them, and some of them were actually sick. White had an off year becuase he went from the goat to a guy who has trouble throwing a forward pass.

You aren't paranoid when everyone is out to get you. That's Cam Newton by this time. The media is acting like Brady never threw a receiver into a big hit. And while he was good at NOT doing that (as the years went on) he DID do it. The media is acting like Newton committed a crime. But that is because the media has an agenda (I believe) and that is to hype the kid and denigrate the vet. Jones is the shiny new toy and everyone wants to play with it right away. I trust in Bill and his 50 years in the league to pick the time of his ascension. Jones IS the future. No doubt about that. Sitting a year didn't hurt Mahomes, and sitting THREE years didn't hurt Rodgers. Sitting a few game or even a year is NOT going to hurt Jones

To your point, Gronk sustained a lot of his injuries because Brady fed him right into defenders.

So this "reporter" writes a column where he says:
1. something happened
2. i don't know the rules
3. in the meantime, thanks for clicking.

I REALLY liked Mac’s interview. Seemed extremely serious, and seemed to criticize himself even though he’s doing really well for a rookie. I like that. He knows he’s got a decent amount of ways to go before he’s close to satisfied with his performance. He knows he can be a lot better, and honestly, he’s already done quite well. But he seems different, seems really serious. I like the serious Mac Jones.

I always said this about Brady, he would get this look on his face, it was always calm, but deadly serious and focused. Skip Bayless would call him Psycho Tom, there was nothing psycho about it, but that look I would see on his face, would usually mean bad news for the opposition. I like serious Mac, not comparing him to Brady, there will never be another Brady, but I like the calm, serious demeanor of Mac.

I agree. He certainly threw his fair share of hospital balls to Welker, Edelman and Gronk. One in particular got Gronk’s knee shredded and a few other scares to the knee.

Welker is a walking concussion because if all the hits he sustained going across the middle and Brady feeding him to defenders.

And if that hit to Gronk wasn't enough, Brady did it again after Gronk came back from injuries lol

Yeah because if Cam had thrown this to Gronk folks like you wouldn't be throwing him under the bus

I try to avoid Youtube. Is that a compilation of Brady passes that led immediately to Gronk getting hurt by feeding him right into defenders who popped him high? Because that's not what happened with the Ward hit, for example (Ward targeted Gronk's knee), or the Thomas hit (Brady threw it behind Gronk, who didn't completely adjust for the catch, lost out to Chancellor as a result, and then got popped when he kept moving forward). And it's not what happened when Gronk had the arm re-injured, or when he was hurt on special teams (broken arm on a PAT). Etc...

That hit by Browner... man, if there were any justice that guy would be in jail.

Does this sound even remotely like something Bill would ever say?

"[Ertz] warmly introducing Patriots coach Bill Belichick to his wife [Julie]. Coach to Ertz “I’m still going to get you some day.” Ertz with a smile. Belicihick responds “But Howie wants 2 first round picks. AND 2 of my grandchildren!"

Not only that but the asking price for Ertz was reportedly like... a 3rd rounder or lower:
