Well my hypothetical thinking there is if this was a game that mattered that wouldn't have been Gunner there. Would have been probably Agholor

Let's be fair here Gunner isn't in the NFL because of his receiving skills he's here because of his ST ability and his potential (much like Edelman stayed on the roster 3-4 years before getting a chance) So I don't think it's outlandish to say if Mac put that same ball in and it was someone like Agholor who is quicker (especially as a WR) could have gotten to that ball
I wonder why Mac thought Gunner would be a bit further along in his route? I wonder if it is related to who he was throwing to last year (e.g. DeVonte Smith, Jaylen Waddle, etc.) ?

Mac will adjust soon enough.

When Mac came in, I noticed that the DPROY/ProBowler wasn't out there to harass him. I'd be curious to see how he would've handled the play when Wynn temporarily turned into a turnstile. I also wonder if BB ever plays that game - during a preseason game whisper to someone on the line to let someone through.

That’s why I’d love for the team to give him some reps with the ones this week. Next week will probably be a PS Week 4 type of game from years past. I’d like to see him in situations like that and how he’d handle pressure from stunts and twists up the A-gap against NFL starters, while playing with NFL starters.

What I saw from Mac compared to cam last night was Mac calling out the Mike, making line adjustments, making audibles, great decision making, pretty accurate, and by the way...Mac's average release last night was 2.53 seconds.
The biggest thing is that while Mac was in there, the Pats offense looked like the Pats offense. Under Cam, it does not, even when he plays decently.

Imagine if the QB got killed and that ever came out?
I can’t imagine that BB would put his QB at that kind of risk for serious injury.

I have no problem with Cam if as I believe, he does not want to be a backup.
A decent backup can run at least a good portion of the standard offense the other 20 or so guys have worked on all season.
Cam is a specialty guy. A change of pace 3rd QB who's a run option guy would be nice to have but too much of a luxury with just 53.
I was OK with Hoyer as that backup until his unforgivable mental errors vs KC. I have no faith.
We do not have a viable backup QB.

The following is an example of a ****ty writer with an agenda:

Not everything was perfect: On back-to-back plays in the second quarter, Fields threw a pass that easily could have been intercepted, then fumbled and was lucky not to lose it. But generally speaking, Fields passed his first test.

Perhaps more importantly, Fields looked better than Andy Dalton, who started the game, played two series, and led the Bears’ offense to two three-and-outs.

Bears coach Matt Nagy has insisted that Dalton will be the Bears’ starter in Week One. If Fields and Dalton keep playing the way they’ve played today, Nagy may change his mind.

Your username gives you away but Mac should have had about 100 more yards on another 3 completions

There was a 15 yard pass to Meyers that the refs called incomplete that would have been called a catch if Belichick decided to challenge

There was a 10 yard attempt that hit Wilkerson in the hands but couldn't come down with it

There was the 40 yard attempt to Wilkerson that Mac put on the money that should have been a TD that Wilkerson didn't bring in

There was the 50 yard attempt that was just barely outside the reach of Gunnar.

Mac could have easily been 17 of 19 for 197 yards 1 TD

Newton's best pass was a ball he threw about 3 yards and Johnu Smith took it about 20 yards.
Cam should have had more than 8 TD passing last season. Edelman missed practically the entire season, but when Edelman was in, had a career high in receiving with Cam as QB, not Brady, despite being with Brady for a decade, and Cam, only months.

Last season Cam had no TE's too .. and no off-season, or pre-season .. get that woulda, shoulda, coulda out of here.

Thank you, Mrs. Newton.

This isn’t about that…it’s about claiming a stat line should be adjusted to include coulda woulda shoulda stuff…and this one in particular makes no sense.
It's not saying a stat line should be adjusted to include shoulda woulda coulda but that performance is nuanced and on another day wilkinson catches that perfect pass and meyers pass is challenged and rightly complete and the stat line looks much more impressive yet Jones actual performance would have been identical to the 87 yd one.

I guess, but in gold if you don't get the putt off fast enough you don't get killed by a 300lb dude. Might not be apples to apples
I guess another way of framing the question would be, "Is Justin Herbert a better quarterback, at this moment, having played as a rookie last year, or would he be better, right now, if he had held a clipboard all of the 2020 season?"

Worst TE production in the league classic for this OC ala Denver'10, St Louis'11, and crap receivers ala NE'06 and NE'13, joined in late June'20 no training camp no live practice, crap surrounding talent, rotating injured OLine, he hurt his shoulder in Sept, and then covid fog in Nov-Dec. But so many don't account for these and just say this is how he is, absolutely on brand for the Boston fanbase as well. A confluence of many factors.
