Mahomes says he is eyeing a 20-0 season

The Chiefs and Bucs both need to be very careful with their week 1 opponents, or we could see the SB teams each going 0-1 to start the season.

Lucky for the Bucs there is no one more used to looking bad in September then winning the SB than Brady.

I feel like the Chargers should challenge the queefs this year. They added corey linsley at center and i feel they got a steal when they drafted rashawn slater. He was a top 10 pick. They got bulaga playing right tackle. OL should be much improved.

There is no way Dallas is beating the Bucs on the night they raise the banner.
It happened to the Patriots in 2017, with Alex Smith and the Chiefs beating them.

Chargers are being overlooked big time. Herbert isn't going to be running for his life anymore and will be much more efficient.

Slater is a generational talent.

Reid is a HoF coach and Alex Smith was always a solid Qb that knew how to win. Dallas has been a clown franchise for over 2 decades now. I fully expect Brady to hang 40+ on their pathetic D.

The 2007 Patriots are as dominant of a team as you’re ever going to see in the salary cap era and they still had 4 close games including escaping by the skin of their teeth against the Ravens.

Good luck.
Ravens were pretty bad that year too. We all remember the Rex Ryan timeout but the Ravens stuffing us on 4th down was nullified by a Patriots penalty of all things.

So I’m sure some team or two will make it tough on them. Bucs too.

Need an incredible amount of luck to go undefeated.

The Cowboys were moving the ball up and down the field before Prescott got hurt. Prescott was on pace to throw for something like 6000 yards.

I'm not saying that either the Chiefs of Bucs should be underdogs. I'm just saying that the teams they are playing are capable of biting them in the ass if they aren't ready to play.

The Patriots, with Hoyer and Stidham, almost beat the Chiefs last year.

Hoyer and Stidham both threw for a combined three interceptions, punctuated with some of the most god-awful foibles. Hoyer fumbled in the red zone. Hoyer took an unnecessary sack when he could've thrown an incompletion to go for a kick, which would've put us at 6-6 going into the half. Hoyer threw an int. Stidham throws an int after Hoyer gets benched. WR's couldn't get open. etc.,

This highlights a few things: even really weak teams have strengths that make it really hard to win (our defense kept the game competitive).
The Chiefs would need to enjoy a comedy of errors to win that game.

tl;dr - it's really, really, really difficult to go 5-0, let alone 20-0. although I'd be more surprised if he said "I'm a realistic guy, I expect a few losses" lmao

I Don’t wanna be that guy but you could theoretically have 2 teams in the same conference be undefeated which means one plays the wild card round
They have effed w the playoffs so much BUT....

Wouldn't the two 17-0 teams have to be in the same DIVISION, impossible since they play each other twice?

Pats fans should rest easy that the 6 super bowl run will never be matched because with the removal of one bye (and I’m sure they’re aiming to remove the other one eventually) and an inevitable 18 game season absolutely no team will be able to be as consistently good with so much additional uncertainty in every season.

so...Maslomes is eying a 20-0 season?....hmmm....I'm not an optometrist but I'd get an eye exam ASAP...

That 20 years of 9 SB appearances and 6 chips and I don't even know how many AFCCG will never be repeated. It was the perfect confluence of events that made it possible.

No. Two 17-0 teams can both be in the same conference without being in the same division, they just have to not face each other during the season. For example, the Patriots and Chiefs can both go 17-0 this season as they don’t play each other in the schedule. But because only one team gets the first round bye now, there would have to be a strength of victory tiebreaker to determine who gets the bye and who ends up in the wildcard round as the 2 seed.

Exactly.

That 2017 opener certainly introduced two guys named Kareem Hunt (17 carries 148 yards 1 TD) and Tyreek Hill (7 catches 133 yards, TD) to us. I don't think many of us knew much about them before that.

The chances are much greater that a team will finish undefeated, at less than 20-0 (some kind of season shortening due to a natural disaster, pandemic, labor conflict) than the chances of more than one team going undefeated during the regular season.

Gillislee getting stuffed on 4th down at the Chiefs 10 yard line early in the game with the Pats up 7-0 changed the complexion that game and not for the better.

Yep...Gillislee was a total dud (Thanks, Bill) and Everyone in the Entire World knew what was coming on those stupidly designed, utterly predictable short-yardage runs (Thanks, Skippy)...

4 of the 6 wins could easily go the other way too, so I’m cool with the total if not the specifics. Although they woulda had 2006 if they completed that 3rd down so nevermind now I’m kinda pissed

Injuries are the great equalizer. If no team suffered injuries during the season, we would have won 9-11 Super Bowls over the 20 year period.

The early in the season 2015 team was probably the best team we ever had. What a misfortune to have that team decimated.

2006 is a wrap with Rodney.

Eh be careful because saying no injuries works both ways. In Super Bowl 49 Sherman was playing hurt from an injury in the NFCCG and more importantly their slot corner in Jeremy Lane blew out his knee and broke his arm on the Brady interception at the start of the game which then freed up Edelman to dominate later on.

Also cooper kupp not being able to play in Super Bowl 53 took away one of Goff’s safety blankets.
