Tired of folks killing the guy, not giving the BOTD. He deserves the respect a 15-1 QB would command... before they let his team fall apart mind you.
Last year, in NE, he was not a 15-1 QB. He was 15-1 in 2015. Millennials are not looked at as the next big thing now, as they still were in 2015; pity the youngest millennials because now if you're not gen z you're old. We won't discuss the political landscape because the board has rules. Did you know who Daveed Diggs was in 2015? I did not. I do now.
A lot of guys who played well in 2015 are out of the league, and we needn't talk about newton's chances of playing in NE in 2016, no matter how great his 2015 was. He had a GREAT 2015. He didn't have a GREAT, or a GOOD, 2020. It seems likely that he will play more like 2020 than 2015. I mean, that's why they play the games, we don't know. But trying to figure out who's the QB, that's part of why they have training camp.
Most of your post was fine, and I agree with you about Boston's rep and frankly, this particular board, to my admittedly biased eye, has from time to time shown its sentiments to be close to the scary folks.
But on the subject of Cam? Don't come in here talking about how our 7-9, missing-the-playoffs, 8-TD-throwing, 12-INT-throwing QB is not getting the respect he earned with the 2015 Carolina Panthers. I was rooting for him to make us all say "Tom who?" But as far as I'm concerned, on the metric of 8 TDs/12 INTs, apply your 150% improvement on both sides of that ledger and you just get 12 TD throws and 8 INTs, which is scraping the bottom margin of adequacy, IF you add in his running game.
People don't get to say "I deserve respect for 2015" in New England in 2021. Little hint as to what respect from the past you're entitled to: You barely get respect for your 2020 in 2021 in New England.
And as for using a poor receiving corps as your excuse, tell me where else Reche Caldwell got to be a number 1.
Now all that said, I hope that by opening day, Cam looks to the coaching staff like he's about to have 2015 again, and I hope they're right. I hope Mac Jones sits on the bench, learns, and enjoys a Jimmy G-style participation trophy super bowl ring, because Cam is suddenly Superman again. But the job's Cam '21's to lose, not Cam 2015's right.
Mac's supposed to earn it. We don't actually know whose stock, if anybody's, is rising or falling. My only thing is, don't say Cam's not getting a fair shake. When a guy can't throw double digit TDs in the modern NFL you don't get to go there. He sucked. It's on him not to suck this year.
