Cam working on rebuilding his throwing fundamentals

The fact that BB took so long to give Cam this 2nd "prove it" deal shows that he's not at all confident in Cam being the guy. It was really his only option to stabilize the position until Mac can get his feet under him. And I agree - in BB's world - that wouldn't be preferred to be this year, but I sure hope we get to see it the 2nd half.

Long? He signed Cam prior to FA.

I think he obviously meant that BB waited til season was over. Vets that you don’t want to get away you extend /re-sign before their contract expires.

What? Most of us are rooting for Mac.

But I kid…..I’m not rooting against Cam. I am rooting for all of the QBs, but am hoping that one of them separates himself and proves that he can be a guy who can take the Pats deep into the playoffs. People can whine about not having a WR1…blah, blah, but the QB position is the only thing that will hold them back, in my opinion.

Cam has a great work ethic, energy, leadership ability. If he can return to his 2018 form and be “the guy”….love it. . We can point out that his throwing motion still looks like a hot mess and still root for him.

What is this mythical 2018 form that pops up every now and then? Every metric I find that measures overall QB performance has him ranked around the bottom 10 of starters for that year. His highest ranking is in TotalQBR which has him at 19th.

I'm reworking my throwing motion too, and I didn't throw more INTs than TDs last year. Advantage, Patsfaninva.

So throwing the football right? Not new ways of throwing games?

HEYO

If Cam Newton lose the job in Camp, he will be cut.
Yeah Cam wasn't re-signed here to be a backup QB. He'll be gone if he loses his QB1 spot in camp.

From listening to Patriot Unfiltered i think Cam will be overtaken by Mac in training camp. His mechanics are his mechanics. They where bad last year in camp and probably will be the same this year. Can't fix the injuries he has sustained during his career. Now, will Cam start anyway, i think so. To much to learn unless Bill's says learn under fire? I think getting Julio is a non starter. Our qb's are not ready for a top level wr who would want 10 plus catches every game.

Those guys are the truth when it comes to preseason insight and prognostication. I remember listening to an episode when they were really down on Rivers during his rookie camp and I was very high on the kid. Here are people or things they have foretold and it mostly came to part.
Ron Brace
2019 offense
Moss in 2007
Kyle Dugger, they raved about him all summer and they were right
Derrick Rivers
Jermaine Cunningham
Spikes (Worried about his mobility)
Rowe-They said he was always here but just can't make the play
Haynesworth, did not see anything left

Hard not to like Cam.

I really like him as a human being. I don't like him as the Patriots QB. I was shell shocked last season. Don't want to feel that way again. It was not the losses that bothered me, it was the ineptitude of the offense. It was so simple out there. We had to have Meyers throwing the freaking football. Holy cow.

See, the problem is that with his different skillset, he needs all new throwing fundamentals. The wide windows his athleticism helped create are tighter now.

And he's never had to have those fundamentals to begin with.

I was referring to Cam the person. As a QB he certainly left a lot to be desired particularly after he got COVID. I'm not convinced though that he's as bad as that. It'll be interesting to see if he has anything to offer. If he doesn't he doesn't.

Anyway, I don't want to see a repeat of last year any more than you do but I generally take a wait and see approach. After all, what else can we do?

I wonder how we can be such better evaluators of quarterbacks than Belichick.

I consider those marketing videos. Gives me the same feeling as watching a political ad with some guy in a suit feeding poor children in the ghetto.

Socci gave a report on this today (Zolak's show). Acknowledging the small sample size, he said that he was still seeing some of the same problems with Newton's footwork, and its resultant negative impact on some throws.

Do the mediots watching practice have a vested interest in pumping up jones and trashing newton?
