2021 NFL Free Agency/Trade News & Discussion: April Edition

Last week free agent guard Lane Taylor visited the Texans, and now he has agreed to stay in Houston.

The Texans and Taylor have agreed to a one-year contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

The 31-year-old Taylor has played his entire eight-year NFL career with the Packers. He was usually a starter when healthy, but he’s been riddled by injuries, playing in just three games the last two years, thanks to a torn biceps in 2019 and a torn ACL in 2020...

DAMN.

No reason why Harmon should not have re-signed here...None.

And some folks here are worried about our long-term prognosis at Free Safety, and feel that Bill should expend another significant draft pick at the position? Apparently Bill isn't one of them; otherwise...?

Sign BOTH of these Beasts Bill, especially local dude & legacy Mo Hurst, our 3-Tech DT of the Future! He's WAY better than Monty Adams & Lord Byron Coward already, and probably wouldn't be far behind Godsmack & Lanky Hank either, especially when costs are considered...

As for Arden Key, hey our pass rush feckin sucks, so why not give him a shot...I'm sure he won't be offered much more than the minimum...

Maybe because they don’t need another safety.....they already have 4 safeties who are better and more versatile than Harmon.

You really have no clue about anything, do you? Neither are vested vets, so both have to clear waivers first, so the Pats can’t just sign them. Hurst is likely to be claimed by one of the 14 teams ahead of the Pats. IF he reaches them, they should CLAIM Hurst, although Mayock probably called Bill, among others, to see if he could get a late rd pick for him, before waiving him.

Key has three sacks in 37 career games on the edge. Some beast. Lol.

If Hurst was any good, why would the Raiders release him? He wasn't expensive - cripes, he wouldn't even count in their top-51, I bet.

Not to defend the player, or Captain's position, but.....

Who the hell knows what the Raiders are doing this offseason? The Raiders sure don't seem to know...

Both Hurst and Key qualified for the proven performance escalator, bumping their 2021 salaries from $920k to $2.183M. The Raiders only had $2.6M in cap space before those moves, so now they can afford to sign their draft class.

“Hurst showed flashes but struggled to get consistent playing time. His eight sacks in three seasons rank second on the Raiders in that span and his pressure rate ranked 11th among defensive tackles with at least 10 pass rushes in 2020 and sixth in 2019, according to SportsInfo Solutions.”

Definitely worth a waiver claim, IMO, but some other team will probably snap him up first. He may not be a good fit for Gus Bradley’s (Raiders new DC) system.

Makes sense.

Hurst might be interesting Couisn, but............He has ankle and calf injuries and was due a raise. The problem is he is small for what we do. He might be 270 LBS and he is 6'2". Basically Hurst was a fifth rounder because of heart conditions so he was not a high pick. He also was too small to stop the run. Is he worth a third down rusher niche from the interior? Eh.........I think that might be Wise's job.

The Raiders needed CAP room to sign picks. Someone had to go.

"Head Coach Jon Gruden is famous for souring on players who miss extended time due to injury. In Maurice Hurst’s case, availability wasn’t his best ability.

Key will likely be most remembered for grabbing Ryan Fitzpatrick’s facemask at the end of the Dolphins game in 2020 that put Miami into field goal range to win the game, crushing the Raiders’ playoff chances once and for all".

With the lack of roster talent, Nick C. should sign them both to the no-name WTH Texans.

JC Jackson posted a picture of himself signing a contract on Instagram. Given that we haven't heard about a visit or any interest from another team, I'm guessing he's just signing his tender and ending his RFA offer period a week early.

Edit: Confirmed to be the RFA tender, according to everybody on Twitter.

Seems to me that Bill agrees with you about Hurst. This BB quote from last year has undertones of “Yeah, Hurst can make some plays but ultimately he is too small”. As I mentioned yesterday, if Bill really wanted him, he probably could have made a deal for late round pick swap with his boy Mayock, before he was sent to the waiver wire.
