What I was trying to combat is the idea that the general philosophy of "give it time" (or as I would classify it, "wait for more information") is a failing of the person arguing it.
I think you're more than fair if you're saying something like "You can't always tell...." or even "You usually need to give....". I think you run into trouble when you make a blanket statement. Let me use an extreme example:

The Chargers took just 2 years to jettison Ryan Leaf, and even that was something like a year longer than they needed.

Clowney the journeyman finally signs with a team. 4th team in 4 years.

He finally gets a contract he's worth.

I saw Breer reporting that the only two teams going to Justin Fields’ second pro day are... the Pats and the 49ers.

I feel like this is just the longest game of chicken ever with these two.

Brownies lol. I wonder when they will do something like win something. They like signing names.

I'd consider Duke Johnson as a Rex replacement. Our RB room looks good with Harris/Sony/White. But I think Johnson would be a great backup and insurance policy for White. I don't think JJ is necessary. Or bringing back Bolden for that matter. Those 4 with Vitale would be an incredible RB corp. (Although I'm not sure they want to let Jakob go)

I think that Vitale is on the outside looking in, honestly. Johnson is a much better blocker and has improved his receiving skills.

Johnson thinks he is better than he actually is. I suspect that he would be pouting and whining if he rarely saw the field. He would have been a better option if White had gone elsewhere.

I actually agree - I love the fact that Jakob stayed and emerged as a tough sob in the mold of Develin, while Vitale ran and hid.
I'm just assuming it'll be a camp battle since BB seemed to really like Vitale.

Duke Johnson isn’t signing anywhere that would put him 4th on the RB depth chart, because it does him no good. He’d want to go where he’s the unquestioned third-down back. Would have only been a fit if James White didn’t re-sign here. The Pats are more likely to draft Rex Burkhead’s replacement (who may also double as White’s 2022 replacement).

Would you prefer that, or a Jones or Casey to thicken the middle?

Also, they're going to make tough cuts now on the DL, I think. I'm not surprised they didn't get Clowney on a 1-year deal. They've got to protect TWO cornerbacks and want flexibility in case a QB opportunity pops up (yep, I still think BB wants Jimmy).

Interesting question...I wish that Bill hadn't been so hasty to sign the lesser talents of Wise, Godsmack & Anderson to such, er, generous contracts;
it made him think the hole was fixed, especially when Guy returned...Then we could've had room for both in the budget...

On second thought...

UPDATE: Details of Clowney's new contract with Cleveland:

Don't know if I would've guaranteed that much to him...Now I'm kinda leaning toward wanting to sign DaQuan Jones and making ED a higher priority in the draft, e.g.: Zaven Collins at 15, Joe Tryon at 46, Rashad Weaver at 96, Ellerson Smith at 120/122...

Anderson's contract is cheap, really, as is Guy's - surprisingly so. I know Guy is older, but I think most people thought he'd be more expensive than Wise. Godchaux's contract makes it clear that BB really wanted the dude, as he's got a $10+ cap hit next year, with substantial dead money (it's not a "funny" year).

They must believe that putting Wise where he's best suited will allow him a jump in production. I mean, they know what they have there after four years.

It's not a bad contract and with 1 year, he has every incentive to ball out with Garrett.
I think its a great move for Cleveland - their window isn't much longer and if Clowney plays at his best, they've got a ferocious edge rush - ask Mahomes how that felt in the SB.

Watch out for the Brownies this year.
