Falcons open to trading the number 4 pick.

While it's true that OSU has a prototype for their QBS - basically a running back who can throw a little - that is not Fields. It's best to think of him as an SEC QB, which he was, who got screwed over at UGA because the coach was in love with his white supremicist Jake Fromm. My mutt friends down here in Atlanta are still royally pissed at Kirby for that.

Now I Really hope that Justin Fields fails, miserably...

I just watched the Ohio St. V Indiana game that was on the Big Ten network.

Fields was actually worse than I already thought he was. BTW Ohio St D left Indiana WR wide open all day.

Fields had 3 INTs I think, one he had all day, couldn’t find anyone, started to scramble and just chucked it up as he was getting tackled. He did this with a 3TD lead kind you.

the Big Ten is garbage. I would avoid Fields like the plague.
When OSU played Clemson, who was the QB who subbed for Fields. Their QB did pretty well.

If Lawrence, Wilson and Jones go 1,2,3, and pitts, Sewell and chase go 4,5,6.

would bb trade up to number 7? And if he did, would he take lance over feilds, the one read qb aka Dwayne Haskins part 2?

There is ample evidence showing Fields making more than 1 read (including getting to his 3rd/4th read) and yet folks continue to beat the "1 read QB" drum despite evidence disproving that position.

Yep according to people a lot more astute than me he is actually one of the better qbs in the draft when going through his progressions. It's weird how these rumours gain traction. Like the rumour about him not having the best work ethic. I've seen it repeated many times now yet i think it started with one analyst mentioning it and he has now retracted it as he can't actually back it up at all.

The analysis of those much more knowledgeable than me is that while he's not a one read QB, he struggles with his reads post-snap. He tends too hold the ball too long, sometimes by design. I think I read he holds the ball for an average of 3.1seconds, 3rd longest in college football last year (but I may have misremembered that). I don't think that is a type of QB BB wants. He may invest in that type of project later in the 1st round but not by trading up and giving up multiple 1sts.

On the field BB wants an intelligent, accurate passer, who can read defences well - I think athleticism and arm come down the list, although both have to be adequate. That says Mac Jones to me, but he's likely long gone. Fields would be better off in a vertical system that accentuates his strengths. Just my two cents.

SF had a run nearly as long as the Patriots. Pittsburgh had an 8 year run and, while suffering down times in between the highs, has had multiple runs since then (6 years in the 90's, most of the 2000s. Dallas had an even longer run, from the 60s into the mid 80s.

Those are generally the franchises looked at, though they are obviously not the only ones that fit the bill.
Any team that makes the playoffs has a chance to win it all. Since 2000 the Pats made the playoffs 17 times. These are the numbers for many of the other teams;

AFC - NFC
Indy (16) - GB (15)
Bal (13) - Sea (14)
Pitt (13) - Phil (13)
KC (10) - NO (10)
Den (9) - Min (8)
Ten (8) - NYG (8)

On the low end there's;
Cle (1) - Det (3)

Since there's only been 6 playoff teams in each conference until last year, that means that those spots are going to a handful of the same teams a majority of the time.

It must be fun to start rumors during the time of the draft. The Dolphins did it with a pot smoking rumor and ended up getting Dan Marino.

I counted 15 for the Colts, still a lot

2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005
2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010
2012, 2013, 2014, 2018, 2020

No inside knowledge, but I am getting more and more convinced the Patriots plan to move up, probably to number 4.

Yeah, when it comes to the issue that this started as, I'm willing to weed out fringe teams that we knew never had a shot, but there's no question about at least some of the top teams on that list. The PeytonColts and the Steelers were consistently title threats, and one of the reasons they don't have more Lombardis in their case is that the Patriots were blocking them. The 2004 Steelers, a 15-1 team, are a great example of that. The 2003 Colts, who took out the 13-3 Chiefs before meeting up with the Patriots, are another. With the exception of the year the NFC team had full knowledge of the AFC team's full playbook, audible system, and tendencies (TB v. Oak), the AFCCG was the de facto SB for the first half of the 2000s.

This is a lazy comparison. Trust me I was guilty of it too until I did some more research. It would have been like dismissing Cam Newton prior to the 2011 draft because Jason Campbell was the best Auburn alum to play QB in the NFL up to that point. Fields and Haskins are not the same player. Fields is a dual threat QB, Haskins more pro style. Fields was the number 1 ranked five-star recruit at his position coming out of high school, Haskins was only 5th in his recruit class. Fields was the more efficient quarterback, having similar passing yards to Haskins but throwing for 9 more touchdowns in 11 fewer attempts. Also a superior running threat. And Urban Meyer warned of Haskins’ maturity issues going into the NFL whereas he praised Fields in that department. Ohio State has never produced a successful NFL QB, this is true. But it is also true that they have never before had a blue chip NFL QB prospect like Fields. This SI article dives further into the comparison and why it doesn’t hold up.

Good retort Cousin But.......
I have watched the film. I have watched Lance, who has a similar game. Both have made some mistakes. Every QB does but Lance is more dynamic I have my doubts about Fields and his one look propensity. I am sure Ohio State had a better O Line than NDSU, BYU or even Stanford. Maybe that progession stuff can be taught to be refined. From the tape I have seen I have seen there is other tape I like better. Tat is my opinion only. If we

Drafted him would I be O.K.? Yes but less O.K. if we gave up two first and two seconds.

Ironically three of the top five QBs in this class come from GA.
247 sports rated Fields the #2 QB in GA in 2017 (probably after Lawrence) Fields had a 0,9998 rating they did with their stats
247 Sports rated Davis Mills the #1 QB in Ga. in 2016 (knee delayed him) Mills had a 0.99918 rating

I think what bothered me about Fields was he quit on his Team, Much has been said about that. It was wrong with what was said to him but the NFL is played by big boys who will question your "maleness", make unjust claims about your mother, your wife or girlfriend and your country of origin, the way you talk, the way you walk just to get under your skin. I am sure other players "chatted" with TB about Giselle. Can they get under your skin. Imagine what Tebow endured. I know this is like Draft Day when Sonny is looking for any little thing about "Bo".

It might be maturity. Perhaps he has grown up right now. I hope so

I see what and why you would want Fields. Agree he has been a top performer but in a system that has nevre produced a NFL QB of esteem.

I like Lance or keep our valuable picks and go for Davis.

Take either Lance, Fields or Mills if we don't have to sell the farm. I see OSU as a negative.

Please don't do it Bill, I'm beggin' ya...

They don’t want to hear facts. I posted the facts and fields went to 2nd or more read more often AND more effectively than any QB in this draft.
Of course since it conflicts with a made up agenda they ignore it.

I'm not in love with the qbs in this draft. Not at these prices. If we do trade up to 4 I would take Pitts. Don't even care about our free agent signings. I'm trying to assemble the blue eyes ultimate dragon at this point lol.

FACT Fields threw to his first read less than any QBs in this draft. And he was more successful on non first read throws than any of them.
Literally the reason you don’t like fields is 100% backward and if that’s your criteria you actually like fields.

Unique take Cousin.
No one would throw stones at us if we took perhaps the second best player in the Draft.

Agree with the assessment of Pitts, but do you trade up that high at the current cost to take anyone who's not a potential franchise QB?

Can he rush the passer, at least?
