If We Pick At 15

I forgot to mention this in my original post, but don't be surprised to see them take Jaelan Phillips at #15.

That guy could end up being the best EDGE defender coming out of the draft. Freakish athleticism, extremely developed pass-rush technique, and refined/impressive ability to set the edge and defend the run.

The only worry there is injury history. Based on tape alone, I'd take Phillips ahead of Paye, but you need to make sure the medical checks-out.

Im not understanding how that endorses not getting the qb
I'm not endorsing not getting a QB...I'm merely pointing out that QBs picked after the first round don't get much of a chance. Ergo, it's really hard to tell if the ratings/gradings are worth all that much beyond any given year's supposed golden boys. The tenth WR off the board sometimes blossoms - same with any other position, except QB.

If 6 Lombardi’s didn’t shut the haters up nothing will. Belichick could do everything they say they want him to do and when it didn’t work out they will simply lie about what they said they wanted and continue to sh.t all over him, as that’s what they really love to do. There is no better example than Garrapolo, as most of them wanted him to trade Brady in 2014 and keep Garrapolo, now they claim they wanted Belichick to keep Brady and sh.t all over him for letting Brady go to Tampa Bay, while simultaneously claiming that Kraft was actually the one who signed Brady to all the team friendly deals. There is no logic to their views as they defy the reality that no GM has ever come close to accomplishing what Belichick has accomplished. They are just haters, pure and simple, and they live to spread their misery, nothing will ever make them happy.

It seems that sports talk radio, which thrives on controversy, is the fuel for much of this discontent. They parse every word of Kraft and dissect his tone, all the while his comments were relatively innocuous. Some hint at getting rid of BB, they ought to be careful what they wish for as nobody does it better than BB.

Of course they will quote things like no Pats Draftee has made it to the probowl in the past ________ years. Who really cares our players would prefer going to Superbowls with their team.. many of these conversations border on sheer idiocy.

I consider myself a very lucky fan to have witnessed the past 20 years.. In BB I trust..

the patriots would need to do a ton of homework on this guy. The old neck/back injury. Then he quit football briefly before transferring.

lot to sort out with his history,

Agreed. But they took Woodward back although that is a 7th round "low level" pick. The concussions are really scaring for a D lineman.

Paye seems a bit thicker which might translate well to the NFL. Paye didNT play every down, like Uche, so who knows what that is all about.

In NE, fans who criticize their team wear it as a medal of emotional stability. Fans who support their team are labeled dumb by the self-proclaimed emotionally stable crowd. That approach improves ratings for some reason, so the spin sticks, even on this board.

paye is interesting. Very twitchy, sudden and athletic, but not a ton of production.

I do not know how bb would view a guy with this type make up.

I would add and strong, 36 bench press reps. I love Paye's athleticism and would prefer him as the 1st D Lineman, but the lack of production is a red flag. So is Phillips concussions. So who knows?

36 is very impressive for a college prospect, but average for an nfl player!

I am interested to learn how bb views paye. If we are playing that 3-3-5 defense, I wonder if bb sees a role for paye.

Who are the players at QB who never got a chance? I think mostly they all do

Do you think newton is the same guy he was in 2015?
Do you believe the organizations goal should not be to win championships? That they should build a team around being exciting and losing?
1) I believe Cam will be fine. I believe I already stated that. Nobody is the same after 5 years. People change, kinda like your screen name.
2) That wasn't your question.

Of course the organization should do their job to win, if they don't have that goal they should be replaced. Sometimes the organization has a long-term plan and patience is needed, I don't believe they have a long-term (only) plan. I think they will do what they always do under BB and Kraft, build a quality team to get in the playoffs and work hard so that the team gels late in the season. Hopefully they avoid major or too many injuries and compete for 60 minutes of every game.

I argued with Quantum about t at length, and he’s not a hater and is someone I respect a great deal, you are welcome to go back and revisit those threads if you want, I don’t have the time for it. The haters in this forum are pretty clear to everyone, as they are never happy no matter how much success the team has. And if you don’t like what I have to say feel free to put me on ignore, I don’t give a sh.t if you like it or not.
You don't have time? After 6+ posts a day for 10 years that's a pretty funny excuse. It's okay though, I'll leave you alone.

I think you pay too much attention to sports talk radio. I put it on once in a while but I almost always turn it right off. The latest incident came early this morning. Let me tell you about it.

The host of the show, a show dedicated to sports, was incredulous that the record for rebounds in a game is held by Wilt at 55 from November (Ididn't catch what year) and that he broke the previous record that was established by Russell as 51 in February of that year. Unfortunately for this dumbass, because it was the same year he thought it was the same season 9 months later.

The guy was also going off about the fact that 55 rebounds is almost one a minute but then realized that it's actually more than 1 a minute. Apparently he didn't know that at the time players were awarded rebounds for missed foul shots. This is a guy who's making a living talking sports and I was listening. I couldn't wait to turn it off.

If we pick at 15 I'm going to assume one of the following to be true :

A) The Patriots couldn't/didn't make a trade happen. Because they were outbid OR because they didn't see any of the top 4/5 worthy of a trade. They likely might see value in Mond or someone of the like on day 2.

B) Patriots never intended on taking a QB early this draft and due to the QB and WR rush will happily take BPA at 15. Likely that player at 15 would usually be a top 10 player in other drafts. I think guys like Darrisaw , Parsons, Horn(and a few others)....make total sense @15.

C)if we stick at 15 we can't rule out the possibility that one top five slide down to pick 15...dream scenario.

man i think this debate really needs to stop now :). You keep asking for something that is actually very difficult to prove. `How do you differentiate between someone that didn't play because they just weren't good enough vs perhaps those that weren't given the time or energy to develop that perhaps they might have done if they were drafted higher. It's done. There is no way of knowing and the debate just goes around in circles

Totally agree with your take:
"C" is possible, there's still weeks to go, and also a slight variation is a QB sliding past #9 and we do an inexpensive trade-up to say 11.
"B" is probably the most likely case, that we're not gonna mortgage the future, and an impact non-QB will be there at 15.
"A" is also likely, that we explore a trade but there's too much competition/too pricey. People need to realize it's not just how much we bid vs other bids, it's how far down the trading partner has to fall. That's why trading down from 4 to 15 is almost unheard of, and is extremely unlikely especially this year. Going down from 7 or 8 to 15 is possible though. By the same logic, Wash/Chi at 19/20 have no shot at moving into the top 8.

Probably our only shot at a move-up is where...
...one of these guys slips to 7 or 8, and...
...we happen to love that guy, and...
...Detroit or Carolina is willing to make a deal that doesn't involve any future 1sts.

If the offensive tackle is Slater or cb is Horn I’d be ok with that.

Horn at 15 would be a great decision. He is the best press man cover corner in this draft.

he needs help in zone, but in press man, he would make our defense much better.

My list of positional players if they dont draft a qb in round 1.

Waddle
D.Smith
Horn
Slater
Parsons
Collins with a trade back
Pitts ultimate long shot or trade up. Same for Sewell
E. Moore with a trade back
