DRAFT BGC 2021 Pre-Draft/Patriot-Type Prospect(s) thread

Pats met with Samuel Cooper - now here's a grown up.
Plenty of his college tape available on YT - that he provides and sends to analysts - but he's just too dominant for that lvl.

Below just few glimpses from Hula and Shrine.
The story on him is a jerker but if you ignore the “storyteller“ there are interesting moments in there.
Tested well, moves well, anchors well, thinks well on and off the field + one of the strongest dudes around.. - Pats UDFA at the least..

Here's a comp between Cooper & Shaq Mason:

Similar height, weight, hand & arm...Cooper is stronger, and isn't that much worse in explosiveness...Mason's lateral skills are clearly superior, but it's not like Cooper's skills there suck either...This is a dude who is absolutely worth signing as a UDFA, thanks for the heads-up.

Lombardi also speculated that he didn't think we trade up for Fields or Lance but it seemed clear that was his opinion. Not inside info.

Old clip from last month so I don’t know if it’s already been shared, but I thought it was interesting that both Smith and Waddle preferred Jones over Tua

I did a quick Mock Draft utilizing your Patriots Draft Board. I used Fanspeak with Steve Shoup's rankings.

Trade #15 and 2022 Number 1 to DET for #7

7: R1 P7 QB Trey Lance - North Dakota State (1)

46: R2 P14 LB Zaven Collins - Tulsa (1)

96: R3 P32 C Quinn Meinerz - Wisconsin-Whitewater (2)

120: R4 P15 CB Aaron Robinson - Central Florida (2)

122: R4 P17 WR Shi Smith - South Carolina (2)

139: R4 P34 DL Tyler Shelvin - LSU (3)

177: R5 P33 S Divine Deablo - Virginia Tech (4)

188: R6 P4 WR Cornell Powell - Clemson (4)

197: R6 P13 FB Ben Mason - Michigan (5)

242: R7 P14 RB Elijah Mitchell - Louisiana (4)

I would take this draft any day of the week. It is very unlikely the Draft will fall this way because I agree with the rankings BGC has given these players.

My final mock draft, posted just before the draft, will be based upon your Patriots Draft Board

Cooper has been on my radar since the Collegiate all-star game. He played in the Hula Bowl but the East-West Shrine game was canceled. I see Cooper as a priority Free Agent.

hidden gems time .. amazing Pro day #s: 6’0-210-4.32-6.83+J-BP:22

Yup I knew he'd test well put looks like a pure ST player rn. We know that's valued here so maybe late rounds.

Think it's time for a new thread?

They could really like Mac. Both shined or were supposed to shine with him. I'm sure it's genuine bc they kind of shined and are coming out with Mac. Its a Alabama thing plus Tua was already a top 5 pick. Can't hype him up anymore.

Absolutely - waiting eagerly :)

Please put link to your current/updated PTP BOARD in OP and make it a central topic.
Id suggest we focus on your Board and guessing the potential Pats Board / Pats Picks there - and continue this one as it is..

BTW - i think its really important you have UDFA options listed on your board as well. You don't have to “count“ them as part of your Draft board - so we can be adding more :)

Yes, I agree, it sounded more like an I like Mac better, than Mac is a better quarter back, although it certainly could be they think Jones is a better qb. I am still trying to figure out what SF gains at #3 by creating a smoke screen about who they are going to pick. Unless they think some teams might move up to #2 to take their qb away from them.

Cool I'll start another one later one with the Big Board, 50 or so vertically to give another feel. Run down of the options. My 2021 grades, finished last night.

Yea I was thinking of round one, two and three with like 3-5 options for each round? Focus on how you would attack each round. Where they fit immediately pertaining to depth chart, on field usage, need/fit ... You get the idea lol

Yea I'm definitely going to keep them (udfa). Just bc we don't see them draft-worthy. We don't stop trying to get better. And they're obviously our types, just different value. They'll still catch our interest and the difference between a 5th - udfa is tiny.

Appreciate everyone's contributions. Hope it was helpful.

This thread was more of a "show you around the city" thread. Get you familiar with what type of people are out there. The good, bad. You're going around from place to place and checking everything out.

The next thread is choosing a city, neighborhood. Getting a little more specific. You looked around the general landscape. Now you have to choose what type of people you want to be around, neighbors. How much are you willing to spend. Bang for your buck?

Then you're getting very specific and buying a house (selecting a prospect). Draft day!!

@Ian you can lock this up if you want. Let it fade off. Up to you you're the boss. Think it makes sense to get a little more specific after testing is just about over and profiles are more complete.

Would be nice to hear from you as well. You have to have an opinion of who you want? Offense, defense .. Again maybe something like 5 prospects on the board (offense, defense, WR, IDL, CB) or w/e grouping you want. Maybe 5 of you favorites?

Yea I definitely think it's a combo of genuinely liking Mac, coming up with him and there's no reason to hype up Tua even though there's a decent chance either one could be a Fin in a few weeks.

The SF trade is fascinating on so many levels. Huge move before the draft. What they gave up aside I'm actually a big proponent of this. For instance and I've said this before. I'd try to trade up into the 40-50 slot every single year. I don't know who'll be there but I know for a fact they'll be good prospects on the board. I'm jumping on getting my guy on a cheap deal. I'm exaggerating slightly but the top of the second round would be my ask if I were on a staff, in a room. Always a ton of good players falling for less than a million per year I believe.

And whatever anyone thinks about Mac, having the respect of your teammates says a lot about a player.

Disagree big with Lombardi on you need to be a top 10 QB in the league to make the sort of impact the Patriots need to compete. But it helps if you have a QB that won’t have opposing defenses stack the box because they don’t respect the pass. Even just a top 20 QB would accomplish that, and I personally believe Fields stands a very good chance of becoming a top 20 QB, at minimum.

Agreed. But it almost feels like the bar is so low, Cam, that we are OK accepting a mediocre QB because it will reduce the # of guys in the box. Not an enviable position to be in.
