So Jonathan Jones, Malcolm Butler, and JC Jackson don't count, huh?
UDFA's.....was talking about the draft only.

And we also signed Gilmore, Revis, Harrison and a few more in FA. And inherited Law, Milloy, and Tebucky Jones from the previous regimes...

Edelman has had a better career than Holmes and isn't far off Burress. Gronkowski has had a better career than either, and Hernandez wasn't far off track to exceed either before he lost his mind. Wes Welker had a better career than any of them - yeah, BB didn't draft him, but he brought him in to shine, didn't he?
Ok, you're putting TEs in as WRs, non-draftees as draftees, and just all around going crazy here.

Wilhite? He was pretty bad, no?

It's not the numbers but WHERE these players were picked. BB was much better prior to 2009. I don't understand some of the bolds here actually. Darius Butler had a decent NFL career. But Wilhite was not on the field much for us. Wheatley, Jordan Richards, Ras-I, Tavon, Cyrus, Duke, JoeJuan. These are 2nd round picks!!!! 7 2nd round busts since 2008 is a lot! And we only hit on Harmon, Ryan and Chung since then in the 2nd round.

He actually started like 12 straight games over the 2008-2009 seasons before a hip injury ended his Patriot career.....

Butler...yeah he has been solid in Indy as others have alluded to above. Yeah, those 2nd rounders were really bad.....terrible..

Thanks for your post, it was fun looking em' all up and reliving the last 20 years....so many players I forgot about...

Can we not go down this road again in the Free Agency thread?

My bad...I keep going off on tangents....

Sticking to FA from now and on...even if its mostly over with...

Wilhite was so-so. Compared to Duke Dawson he was an All-Pro.

I count 14, not 15 for the Patriots. Like I said, 4 of 14.

Pitt expends higher picks than us which helps their hit rate. 3 2nds in the last 4 years, 1 3rd. You're going to hit more in the early rounds.
Patriots have only N'Keal Harry. You're going to miss taking so few guys, just as the Steelers have missed on high picks like Sweed, Coates, Archer, Wheaton, etc. That's 4 busts in the last 7 years, but if you keep picking more and more and more, it's going to help.

The league average is in the 30% range.

I have to disagree on the higher picks point as being an excuse here. Since 2000 we spent 7 picks in the top 3 rounds and hit on 1. Thats considerably lower than our overall hit rate , actually its pretty awful. so theres no data to suggest more higher picks would improve us there let alone get us close to the Steelers.

Im not disagreeing that we may be close to the leaguewide average on wr drafting, but the Steelers are rightfully commended as being incredible at it.

Reliving some of these cb picks..

Duke Dawson and Cyrus Jones.. brutal.
Everyone had Cyrus Jones some people were saying he was a mix of Samuel and Reed i can’t blame the Pats for him. Now hearing about his heart issues maybe that affected his play.

His list is clearly about drafted DBs, not UDFA rookie pick-ups. Bill probably does the best out of any GM ever at finding UDFA gems.

He's still the Ravens' returner, right?

Tomato, tomatoh.

Team-building is a multi-directional approach. UDFA finds are cheaper.

No, I'm saying that a team that builds its passing game around TEs and small slot guys won't spend the capital on the typical WRs.
