Their parents, John and Miriam, were like “Let’s not curse our children with boring names like we’ve got”
As someone named Jon,

I will LOVE it if SF picks Mac Jones. Shanny trying to outsmart the room.

Now that my next top 3 WRs - Willie Snead, Demarcus Robinson & Adam Humphries - have all been signed recently, the best-available WR for us still on the market might be...Damiere Byrd? Hey why not, since Scam is still here and Curtis Samuel isn't...Shouldn't take much more than the vet minimum with little guaranteed plus some moderate incentives...
Robinson
Humphries
Snead
Byrd

If Byrd is the worst we can do, then bring him back. Imagine what he could do with another year and not being a number one guy. Could be a solid playmaker for the team.

I don't get it. Y'all think that the patriots are any good at drafting wide receivers. I suppose that they could go to fan sites from other teams and see who they are interested in.

If we have a 2nd or 3rd, I suspect that it will be important that Gilmore, Jackson and McCourty are all in their last year. DB is much, much more likely (and reasonable) than a WR to compete with Meyers. Besides, no rookie will learn our system in their first year.

What choice do I have but to hope that Bill gets it right one of these years? You can't win if you don't play...

I want Bill to draft a CB too...but not until #139 (96 at the earliest)...I also want him to be aggressive in the after-hours UDFA market...But we also have a more immediate need for a top-100-caliber WR...It would be a disgrace if he let another opportunity slip away...

There are many ways to secure WR's. You don't like how Belichick makes these choices. Edelman and Harry are the draftees. The others are free agents, sometimes UDFA's.

I strongly believe that Belichick doesn't do well at drafting wide receivers. I'd much rather that he draft linemen.

Agreed. BB’s success rate at drafting WR’s is poor but it’s not zero. Branch, Givens, Edelman, Mitchell all contributed to SB winners. It’s a low percentage out of 21 seasons but still!

I was just thinking about Branch a few days ago. If we draft a player with his skill set and success, that's good enough. I don't think we need a Hopkins, Adams, Jones type for this offense to be successful (obviously that would still be ideal). That's why I'm so intrigued by D Smith and E Moore. They both have that smoothness and quickness to get open and make things happen. They don't have to be the traditional alpha receiver in the overall context of the offense, but could still have a huge impact.

Yes, BB doesn't have a WR drafting track record like the Steelers do...

But we need to recognize that Harry is his highest WR drafted in 20 years. If he had been striking out with multiple first rounders...then I'd also not want him drafting WR's. Here's his track record by round:

1st - 0-1, Harry hasn't worked out YET, I hope.

2nd - 1-3, Branch was good for us twice. Bethel Johnson had speed OK..made some plays...but not a hit. Chad Jackson was bad. Aaron Dobson showed flashes, but wasn't a hit.

3rd - 0-2, Taylor Price never did anything. Brandon Tate had speed, but not a hit.

4th - 1-1, Malcolm Mitchell was solid, but Josh Boyce wasn't.

5th - 1-1, PK Sam never did anything and Matt Slater is a HOF gunner, IMO.

6th - 0-1, Braxton Berrios was given up on too quickly, but caught on elsewhere.

7th - 2-3.....MAJOR hits in Edelman and Givens. Misses in Devin Lucien (although I thought he had a good camp a few years ago), Jeremy Gallon, and Jeremy Egbert.

BB is 5/17 or batting .294....not too terrible when it was off set by great TE (Graham, Watson, Gronk, Hernandez) and passing back (Vereen and White....Woodhead was a FA I think) drafts as well as free agency/trades (Moss, Welker, Cooks, etc...).

I would be excited if he took a top flight WR like Smith, Waddle, or Chase...I mean it is easier to draft talent when you get to choose early....

How so, given the success of Shanahan with Ryan, and his affinity for Cousins?
Not sure if he's still attracted to Cousins but I'm betting he got over him. No real success and no reported deals to try to get him back that I know of.

Cousins had that huge offer from the Vikings, but that didn't happen until after the franchise tags. And JAG had been traded for by then. But it's long been reported that Shanahan had wanted a reunion. That time's past now, as Cousins is still in Minnesota and is now entering his mid-30's, but there's no reason to think that Shanahan has changed to the point where he doesn't think he can win with that kind of QB.

Did sbd. Post here where the 9ers were interested in a trade for Cousins? In this offseason i believe, could have been just speculation from the author as well
