Besides the Bucs there isn't a current defense is take over ours at the moment. Many of them are still in the building process though. So it remains to be seen.

Ravens got worse on D. Steelers got worse. Washington is a wait and see for me. Personally I don't think they were as good as their stats suggest.

The pats on the other hand have upgraded over last year a substantial amount.

I really like J Jones. Not saying he’s D Sanders in his prime, but he’s an underrated piece. I also like Bentley. Not in the 2020 role, but with better/more reliable pieces around him, I think he can contribute.

And he did not grade well in coverage his rookie year defending teams' 4th-5th options. He's also shown he's allergic to making any plays on the ball.

I think that is a product of coming from a d2 school and not being ready for the nfl.

I doubt he improves much in coverage this coming year. He’s just too raw!

Are there people in here really saying Dugger is slow? He ran a 4.49 40. Dugger last year was a guy that made a huge jump in competition and didn't have a proper pre-season, if Chung didn't opt out I doubt he would have seen much playing time because Bill would given him a year to learn the system and ease him in.

amen brother! A case can be made that any time he is in coverage, we are so screwed! Put him in the box and hope he does not continue to miss tackles.
Anytime I saw him on the field, I'd watch him like a hawk to see how he'd do. I never saw anything remotely bad like Jordan Richards, but he's just not a playmaker at all. I'm still waiting for that message sending hit, forced fumble, INT, or something! The board and some in the media overrates him badly for some reason.

For @Ring 6

How their top pick fared: Kyle Dugger (No. 37 overall):

".....He faltered in coverage, though, with a 55.4 grade in that facet (69th of 91). That was the leading factor in him generating negative PFF WAR."

Dugger is not a FS. I'm hopeful he can be a starting SS but this only works if he can cover TEs and RBs while stopping the run.

Pff lol

Dugger was projected as a SS before the draft. He was best utilized in the box as a S/LB hybrid last year. Why are we trying to paint him into a FS box? Let the man play his role.

I've assumed that, given his promoted positonal versatility, Mills is most likely to fill Harmon's old role as the deep 3rd safety. Got no film or scouting report to back this up, just an assumption based on what I've read. I think Miles Bryant steps in and fills JMac's old CB role.

Overall, this defense has potential to be a top 5 unit, but until we see how the pieces fit together, it's all guesswork. I hope the leadership that comes with the returns of Guy and Hightower helps with the gelling process.

The Rams might be the one defense that you forgot about...they are very good, but I agree that our defense has the potential to be a top 3 unit.

Bottom line is right now, we do not have a back up free safety on the roster.
everyone seems to ignore this because they fear the Belichick will use a high pick on a safety.

IMO we are a top 5 D if we retain Gilmore at Corner, and with the present known Patriot's defensive players
