I voted 11-16, at best.

We still need a legit 0/1-tech DT...and another starting-caliber DE...and a LB who can actually, you know, cover people.
It was 7 last year. You think it got worse??????

Impossible to rank them right now. I think they can be a top defense in this league. Assuming Gilmore and Jackson are back and healthy, they could have the best secondary in the league. Their LB corp goes from being a huge liability to being a strength (assuming Hightower is still his pre-COVID break self and healthy). They still need work on the interior d-line though.

I wouldn’t mind having a Barmore playing the 0. He’s shown he can play the 3,4&5 as well. But tbh, I’m not sure if it is a necessity? How often have they been in a 3-4 base the last 5 years? It always seems to be a variant or disquise. Wouldn’t be surprised if they took him because he is a safe pick and very familiar with some of the things the Patriots do. But 0 or 1 technique isn’t everything anymore like it was back in the days of Washington and Wilfork. Defense has evolved into a hybrid chameleon style.

Went with 6-10 for no other reason than our D is incomplete right now, suspect additions to that unit and probably some subtractions..

IMO they will be good, how good is to be seen..

Top 5 defense easily. Had one of the better defenses top 10? Idk the exakt spot and get back/added HT/KVN/Judon with several DT upfront. Secondary did not change much. Expect some jumps from uche dugger Jennings and wino hopefully with such vet dudes like mentioned above. The only thing what can keep this defense out of top 5 are injuries imo

Another early thread. Let's wait until the draft happens. Their D line is still weak. As @captain stone said, they need a clogger at NT, a real DE and LB that can cover or just be just be a flat out menace.

I think it depends on Gilly and Jackson. I want both to stay this year and or get extended. I pray JC does not get an offer. If both stay, top 5.

Its going to be tough sledding at first with the new guys learning the system.

Good games and bad games and hopefully thy hit a groove around the finale to the post season.

It got better with Hightower, KVN, Judon & Godchaux; it got worse however at DT, we still need another starting-caliber DE & a WLB, and our defensive secondary hasn't really improved because the money spent on Jalen Mills should've been better-spent on somebody else.

I’m confused
God is a DT and Anderson, Davis, Cowart and Adam’s are competing for the other. They are better than butler. Wise will be as good a 3rd down rusher as anyone we had.
We have HT, KVN and Judon filling 3 of the 4 de/lb spots.
Winovich, Uche, Jennings, McMillan all combine to fill the 4th.
Not sure how you think we need 2 players in addition to those to fill 1 spot.
Adding Mills despite the fact you don’t like him, replaces JMac abs that’s certainly not a downgrade. Everyone else in the secondary is back.

If Gilmore stays and maintains cb1 level play we are as good on paper if not better than the 2019 d so I would say top 5.

That D-line is weak! And Wise is a terrible player. He's not even in the same universe as Jarvis Green.

I think we need to revisit this after the draft and see what the unit looks like. A big "if" we keep both Gilmore and JC with the addition of Mills and I think our secondary is really strong, even with losing. Chung. We improved our front 7 and added pass rushers . If our young players ( Dugger, Wino, Uche, Jennings) improve, our defense should be top 5.

Would love to bring back Guy and J McCourty back as well and I have a feeling we'll add a piece or two via the draft. Our defense is much improved from last years unit.

Pats biggest need on D is a pass rusher. there isn’t single player along the D line who would command a double team.

Wise is fine as a pass rusher.
I like the DTs. Those guys are here to stop the run. Big improvement over last year.

Judon
Winovich
Hightower when they put him on the edge
