Bourne playing like he did in SF could grow into a legit Edelman replacement and not some WR4 or depth option. He has all the tools for that. Man, people are sleeping on him.

Sorry, I misinterpreted the post I was responding to. I thought he was talking about signing Amendola, and got my wires crossed. I agree right now Bourne is one of our starting WR, at least in 3-WR sets.

I just dont get this move by Trubisky. This guy is still young, was highly touted. You would think he would go to a team where he could compete for a starting job to revive his career. In 2018 he looked at least promising with 24tds and 12 interceptions

Instead he goes to a team where he has NO chance of ever seeing the field. and next year will be back on the market all over again showing teams nothing. Has to make you question his compete and drive.
It's a one year deal. He'll hit the market again next year, in a year where the QB draftee crop is expected to be a lesser group, Roethlisberger is likely to be retired, and where a few of the current starters are likely to have washed out.

Actually after rereading it a couple times you might have been right and I took it the wrong way.

To sum it up.. if that was about Dola then you absolutely nailed it. It if was about Bourne then I think he brings with him more tools than some might think.

What I take from those Bourne highlights is how much a better passer all those Niners QBs were than Newton last season.
But how Jimmy G had superior zip and quick release than his fellow QBs.
Shouldn’t of let him get away.
I see why BB wants him back im not convinced BB is ready to say die on this trade.

Only way to have kept him was to trade Brady. We likely don't win in 2018 then. Jimmy wouldn't have resigned as the backup here. Now, if we fail to get a decent QB for the next 10-20 years, then there's an argument to be made: Is the one last Super Bowl with Brady worth having lost your next guy? But as is, that move was best for all parties involved.

I was surprised he took a backup position. BB must not have been interested.

Just looking forward a bit and I guess the first opportunity to see some of the players together (subject to Covid rules ?)

April 19th - Offseason workouts
April 29th - May 1st - NFL Draft
Post Draft - Rookie mini camp and OTA's
Late July - Training camp

What starting jobs were available, though, really?

He's in the Claypool mold. Talked About him in my thread a month or so ago. Height/Weight/Speed freak. He's someone that might work here. We need speed and big plays. Just talked about this in my thread.

I've been pumping Mills for a while now. Probably higher on him than most but I'm very intrigued. Less than a season worth of starts but he looked good recently. Very smart, poised with good footwork. He reminds me of Daniel Jones in that regard. Base, feet, core all strong, working together. Team capt. Arm talent won't wow you but its better than good enough. I think he's perfect for a lot of RPO/PA, hes really good at working the MOF in general but put something together like that and give him a year to train, learn the system. Adjust to life in the NFL. Its a huge jump in terms of experience. He'll need a lot of help at first but he's a little presence and command about him.

Cousins,
Some of you might remember when the Pats Drafted Jim Plunkett and Randy Vataha of Stanford. As a rookie Vataha had 9 TDs form his Stanford mate Plunkett.
Mills to Fehoko has that same ring...ha.
I saw Mills workout with Fehoko and watched bot on them on tape. Be perfectly fine with both around 3rd round (swap some of our 4ths) and a stud or two in Round 1 and 2.
I giggled when I heard Mills was not athletic when he might be the second fastest in ths QB class. at 4.59.

In 15 Games (started 11) he threw for 18 TDs and 3468 yards at a 65.5% completion rate and a QB rating of 141.9

If you pair them in the Draft, "they will come".

Ohio State QB? I don't think I am sold. I am scared to death about Justin Fields because of Dwayne Haskins. Think of Terelle Pryor Think of Cardale Jones. Think of Art Schlichter so I am not "gambling" on Fields if I am the Pats.
The best Ohio State QB in the pros was actually on the Patriots for three seasons......Who was he? Anybody......anybody? ....Tom Tupa..

Yes I would take Mac Jones, Trey Lance, Kyle Trask or Davis Mills over Fields.

I heard Fields sing and that was it for me.

I liked the video, but then I realized that it would be nice to see a film where he doesn't get open and drops a catch once in awhile. That might balance out our expectations a bit.

I agree, but that is the nature of a highlight video. From what I have heard, he got a reputation for having the drops after he had three crucial drops in one primetime game but overall that reputation is overblown. Again, it is nice to see that he’s not making these catches with DBs in tight coverage. Seems like those guys who just has a natural feel for the gaps in the defense and how to get open. definitely looks much faster than a 4.68 guy, even after the catch.

There are guys who play faster than their 40 times and some that play slower.. Edelman and Welker fall into the former.. I'm sure you can list oodles that fall into the latter. What can't be taught is the short area quickness.

I'd rather that Bourne turns into a taller version of Branch than be another Edelman.. Branch is another guy who had a knack for finding the open area..

Cardale Jones and Haskins weren't even supposed to be playing, they had people ahead of them.

I disregard talk of Pryor since he was an option QB. Urban Meyer has liked those types since tim Tebow.

I think all this is irrelevant under the current OSU coach.

One could easily ask who came out of Florida that was any good under Meyer?

That’s not happening after what he said.

Maybe as a WR coach but he's not going to beat out anyone in the current WR rotation. They need a legit #1 not another Bourne/Amendola type.

The real question is if there were better backup jobs available?
Buffalo's a contending team with an offense that Trubisky should be able to handle if called upon. There aren't a lot of better backup jobs in the league.

That’s a good point. Maybe that’s what he was looking for. The other thought is go somewhere he might get a chance to compete for a starter job. Like Washington. But I wonder if none of those places wanted him.

My guess nobody else showed serious interest.
Still waiting for Mariota to be let loose.
He will have his choice of options.
