LOVE Danny-don’t-drop; but it’s time for some new blood..
Yup, love the guy (despite his beef with BB the GM), but big doubt on that rumor. He’d been making $5m a year since leaving New England and still effective, having 600 yards a season, consistent with what he’s produced throughout his career. Given how resentful he was about taking paycuts before, there’s no way he’s going back to making below $2m a season with this team and taking a reduced role in the process. If he’s going to be buried on a depth chart I’m sure he’d rather do it somewhere else like Tampa.

Really warming up to the Bourne signing. This is a guy who plays much faster than his 40 time. If you watch the entire highlight video, Curran’s comment about Bourne taking on defenders looks to be a legit strength...very tough runner after the catch. His raw stats don’t jump out at you but have to be taken in the context of a run-heavy SF offense. He could ultimately turn out to be one of their best signings, in terms of cost vs. production/impact.

6.73 3 cone at 6’1” 203 lbs.

I don’t think Tampa is after him and I doubt there’s as much money on any table for him this year. That said, of those three, the Titans might be a good fit for him.

Right. I only mentioned Tampa as a hypothetical if he was willing to take a one year semi-retirement deal where he could chill at the bottom of a depth chart. Assuming they re-sign AB, Tampa will already have 5 WR’s with Evans, Godwin, Brown, Miller, and Johnson and that’s on top of having Gronk and Howard at TE. Tennessee would be a solid fit for Amendola I agree.

Bill would take Amendola back if the price is right. But honestly does he have anything left in the tank?

No kidding, but if it is a job then you want to prove that your last team was wrong and that you are a starter worth more than $2.5million so that you can make more money next year on a bigger contract.

isntead he took $2.5million to sit on the bench for a team he has no chance to start. is any team going to pay him more next year when they havent seen anything to make them want to?

Say for example he went to the 49ers for the same contract. Given Jimmy G's injury history and the fact that the niners are wishy washy with him he could've had a chance to compete for a starting job. or at least have a chance to start and show something if/when Jimmy misses games.

I mean you have people giddy over one game Mariota played.
One thought that came to my mind is that maybe he saw the work that staff did with Allen and wants a year to improve and hit the Market again next year.

Adam Humphries....Bueller? ....Bueller?
Adam-“Heya Tom. I’d really love to come play for you in Tampa. Whaddya say pal?”

Tom-“Sorry bubs. You’re old and injury prone. Can’t depend on you to be here for 2 games let alone 2 years.”

Amazing what a difference 1 year makes.

Bill couldn't care less what players say about him.

As long they play hard and put the team first there is always room on this team for them.

Just don't screw him on business deals or try to steal his coaches. Only then he becomes scornful.
Agree with this but you forgot one, when you mess with Little Steven.

Brady remembers. Imagine if Humphries was out of the league before him, that would be something.

Another thing about Bourne, that demonstrated in the highlight video....almost every time he catches the ball he is not just a little open, he is a lot open. I’m certainly not an expert on breaking down WR film but to me that indicates that he is either getting excellent releases at the LOS or his route-running is elite, or both. It may trace back to....say it with me....his three cone (ran a glacial 4.68 forty but an elite 6.73 three cone).

He understands coverages very well against press and zone, according to 49er X/O or beat guys has shown the ability to run option routes and is generally a pretty crispy route runner. If he is a cultural fit and buys in he will terrorize our opponents in the intermediate for a couple of years.

Seems like a natural fit for EP to me..

I'm not a fan of the move. We need someone younger/faster/healthier than him, someone on the way up instead of the way down. He won't need much coaching, but he would take up a roster spot.
This only makes sense if JE11 retires. Love me some Jules but he's cooked and for his own mental health should hang it up. He's tough as nails so who knows, but if he's gone, Danny would fill in nicely for a year as the veteran clutch receiver to replace him. Shouldn't be too expensive plus he's a good run blocker also.

And even then, it's a move that's made as baseline competition for the WR4 spot. Basically, you sign Amendola so you can say, "Okay, at worst our WR4 is a veteran we know can play in our system." At best though, someone like Harry, Gunner (both unlikely I know, but your hope is that a young player improves), or a rookie would beat him out.

Thoughts on Bourne, @BaconGrundleCandy, or anyone else here who is into WR film review?
I liked the video, but then I realized that it would be nice to see a film where he doesn't get open and drops a catch once in awhile. That might balance out our expectations a bit.

I'd rather get Adam Humphries locked in for 2 years - unless those concussion issues are real.

Bourne playing like he did in SF could grow into a legit Edelman replacement and not some WR4 or depth option. He has all the tools for that. Man, people are sleeping on him.
