Right, the issue becomes how much do you want to push into future years.

Pretty much every player will let you convert their salary into a signing bonus, that gives the player instant cash instead of waiting for game checks.

Then you get to pro-rate over three years, but now have a bigger cap hit if/when you cut the player in the next 3 years.

So the team tries to "pay as it goes" but if it finds someone they think is a difference maker like Trent Williams they are willing to push out the problem to future years.

KC's window is a year or two, by three years out a lot of big future cap hits they are taking now will be impossible to ignore.
There is an explanation Cousin. The new TV deal in 2022 is going to boost the CAP. If we push contracts until the 2022 season we can absorb that hit, gather "groceries" now, and keep under the CAP.
There are Teams with big QB contracts heading down the road that could be in trouble CAP relief or not.
I think it was just pure luck that the CAP was lowered and we happened to have the dollars to spend. We'll take it!

Yes, I can see the wisdom in Tampa Bay pushing dead money onto the cap down the road, with the eventual bailout being replacing TB12 with a low-dollar rookie, but KC has no such bailout. They might be in a world of hurt in 4 years, and Mahomes still in his prime and paid like it. Good problem to have, though, I guess, but they better not go crazy in spending.
I'm definitely in favor of splurging when you are in your window and worrying about cap hits tomorrow.

I view this year's Pats splurge as a weird convergence of the cap falling more than expected, us having more cap space than normal, and next years cap sure to rise.

The thing I can't understand is a team buying expensive players when they are nowhere near contention, such as da Jete signing Leveon Bell.

Godchaux is Not a "NT." Neither was his predecessor Guy, who is practically his body double.
yep.. 6'3-310 is the same a 6'4-320.. *SMH*

No one said that Guy was a NT. Ever. He was a 3-4DE/4-3 UT.

LJ Fort just got cut from the Ravens. He might be worth a look to bolster the LB core.
BB no want scraps. BB wants sirloin. Bring me Samuels ! Or Watson ! Beli$$$$$cheques !

And, with that alignment, you rarely get to 3rd down. Just a lot of life sucking 8 minutes 15 play drives.

Unlike you, I don’t have imaginary conversations with Bill, so I can only speculate as to his plans. It appears to me that he knows you can’t compete against the run with only 2 real DLinemen on the field. That they’ve had to go a lot with that alignment over the last couple of seasons because they’ve been short in personnel there with Pennel and Bennett flaming out and Allen being hurt all last season. And, frankly, there was little difference between Adam Butler and Chase Winovich as a run defender, so you might as well have the more versatile guy out there.

With their transactions so far, it appears they’re building a nice little rotation of 6 Dlinemen to play 3-3-5 on early downs at least. Let’s hope so. It’s misery watching a defense that lets a team run it right down their throats.

Id think theyll still add - otherwise this guys might not make it to the games molested by OL in training :)

Dont understand Mack back to Indy theyre loaded in the backfield, where is his carries gonna come from. Bitter cause he would have been an excellent patriot

Cousin, I like Fort but like KVN better. I think KVN can do more.
Another ex Pat, I see K.C. opting for is Andrews as the best center available. I think they beat out Miami. K.C. will be in the playoffs.....why would you not want to start there.....and you have familiarity with Thuney right next to you. Makes a lot of sense.

I think we are still in the WR market. I like Rishard Higgins game. He would start over Bourne IMO as Bourne is a solid #3 guy.
But id BB was going to take a flyer on "the more mature" Green, why not TY Hilton? Precise route runner. Will cost less than those others.

I am all in if they get Fournette. Could be Corey Dillion II without the drama or Atowain Smith both down hill RB's and Fournette catches the ball out of the backfield.

How about a guy that can be a RB and WR and return kicks? He was here so he knows Josh's complex system and was pretty decent. Cordarrelle Patterson anyone? He had 21 receptions here in 2018 and ruished 42 times for a 5.4 average as a RB. He's a consistent return guy. He has speed which we lacked last year.

Can someone please fill me in on our likely plan at CB? People are saying JC is leaving, Gilmore will be traded and JMac won’t be back.

Also if we really are trading up for a QB guess we won’t have any high picks to hit on a quick replacement.

Good catch Cousin. Thought the same. Supposedly good against the run.
Still say we need KVN.

The draft is stacked at cornerback.
Coach them up?

If we were actually going after AJ Green, i definitely believe we will sign another WR this week. Would still love to see Samuel. Fournette or Carson at RB would be really nice as well.

projected at 11M apy. No $ for LBs on this market. Bunch of 1y deals to follow. Maybe BB could dip in 1y prove it bargain pool.
