14M for Cam Newton. BB's gonna RUN it BACK!!!

If Cam Newton earns $14m in the 2021/2022 NFL season, it means the Patriots had a tremendously successful season (likely ending with a Super Bowl appearance/victory).

Yes, absolutely - but so is your reaction to the Cam Newton news.
So you'd rather pay the worst QB in the NFL over using that money towards Joe Thuney?

Wishful thinking Bro!

Cam Newton's base salary for the 2021 NFL season is almost certainly well below what Joe Thuney's base salary will be.

With Dallas picking 10, now that they signed DAK, any team wanting a qb will probably look to trade with them. Do you think Jones goes before Lance now? I've been hearing that 5 qb may be taken in the top 12 picks
Hope so!!!

I think Bill has enough good will to have survived an awful season. He would never tank, not in his DNA. To me the fastest way to get back to where we were is the franchise QB, that’s all I’m saying. Sometimes you have to fall before you rise again.
Totally agree about tanking which is why I don't think Bill or his coaches would survive 1-15. He'd be fired and that would be a stain on Bill's legacy. Shula never had a 1-15 season. Neither did Lombardi.

7-9 is just a down year, it happens. If they bounce back it will be forgotten.

I always thought Lawrence was a pipe dream. Too many awful teams and as bad as the 2020 Pats were they're still a few steps above that tier.

and which veteran franchise QB do you think that we have an opportunity to get? I suspect that the answer is "none".

With regard to the draft, that is an entirely different discussion.

Belichick has chosen Newton as his veteran. If we get a first round QB in the draft, we will all wonder when he will be ready to start.
============
To be clear, I would have preferred Trubiski.
Don’t think you saw my other post, that’s ok. I said I would’ve been fine with 1-15 last year if it meant we could draft Lawrence and had the QB of the future on board, just my $.02

Wishful thinking Bro!

No, it's not wishful thinking - it's objective, factual truth.

If Cam Newton earns all $14m of this new contract, it very likely means him and the team had a tremendously successful 2021/2022 season.

Remember when the Patriots wanted us to believe they loved Jarrett Stidham?

Fun times.

this is the part people don't get. He is not getting 14 mil unless he and the team are champs and he gets an MVP. I'll take it for that cost. Of course, he isn't going to win an MVP and playoffs??/ so he is not getting 14
that said, i'd like to see another vet and rookie onboard

Pathetic!

Newton's a total loser, which makes him a perfect fit for Belichick with his legacy now in freefall. It's going to get very ugly at Gillette. Newton had it very easy in 2020 with no fans in attendance. So when he's making a complete fool of himself next season, drilling balls at the feet of equally incompetent receivers, he is going to get booed out of the stadium. Newton's sidekick - Belichick - is in for some very hard times as well.

"Run it back!! Chapter 2" LOL!! Belichick is seemingly intent on making a complete mocking of his dying career. It's hard to believe the Krafts signed on with this garbage... we are witnessing the sudden collapse of a once formidable franchise.

Go Bucs!!
I somehow missed this wonderful, insightful post. Goodbye

Key word was "towards". Whatever is initially being paid to Cam, I'd rather go towards Thuney.

Cam Newton earning the $14M was what I meant by wishful thinking.

The organization has dropped the ball big time with this ordeal. No way i would go pay money to see cam play qb for the team next season.

In your opinion. Brady two number one WRs this past year. I said he can no longer carry a bad offense. How did anything he did in 2020 prove me wrong. 2019 proved me right. Brady has a long way to fall being the greatest of all time. A minor slip in talent will still make him a top talent.

And Josh Allen had a better season as a passer than Brady. He didn't go Super Bowl, but then again, Brady wouldn't have gone either if the Bucs' defense didn't totally shut down Aaron Rodgers and wouldn't have won if the Bucs defense didn't shutdown Mahommes. That is why I don't rank QB season performance based on Super Bowl rings. They aren't the only players on the field in the plays. It takes a team to win.

And struggled against the blitz this year. That is a provable fact.

Ok, no more Brady talk.
Respectfully I disagree that Brady doesn’t beat KC without the defense. That offense had KC’s D guessing for most of the night and could’ve dropped 40+ if needed. It was an advantage for the Bucs’ D to have a 2-3 score lead so they could attack the entire 2nd half. Also didn’t hurt that KC was missing their OL. Brady was locked-in and very efficient in that game. I’ll give you Green Bay, Tampa D saved Brady in the 2nd half.

Seeing Jayson Tatum pre and post COVID has warmed me up to the idea.
I see what you’re saying in theory; however, Tatum still posted all-star caliber (excellent) numbers during his Covid streak. Cam was terrible the entire year minus the rushing TDs. There was no noticeable difference with Cam pre/post covid. Not really comparable at all

“Before testing positive for the virus, Tatum had been averaging 26.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 34.6 minutes per game. Since returning, he has been averaging 24.5 points, 7.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists in 36.0 minutes per game.”

“While Tatum's minutes have actually increased, his shooting has suffered, going from shooting 47.4% from the field and 43.8% from deep to 42.7% and 36.9%.”

Maybe it's wishful thinking in my part. But if Bill brings cam newton back. Maybe he really believes it was mostly the weapons and not cam.

Maybe he's a better player with better skill players

Tampa D saved Brady in the 2nd half.
That's a popular narrative. It's not true, though, as Arians pointed by how he discussed the 3 ints.

He continuously missed open receivers and threw the ball into the dirt, better skill players can’t fix poor accuracy.
