Wouldnt mind him at all, pats been interested since 2012
Was about to post this. Always loved watching him. He's nowhere near where he once was, of course, but he's still a quality WR2/3.

Guys like Sanders, Humphries, Higgins are where I expect the Pats to go with a couple of FA pick-ups. I just can't picture BB shelling out 17-20/per on a top-end WR. Maybe a Corey Davis type, but...

Exactly, he's not THE solution, but he helps the problem. Meyers, Sanders, Edelman + draft pick with Harry is decent, add a big possession receiver like Marvin Jones and im pretty happy with that group, good depth for inevitable injuries and hopefully we finally hit on a rookie WR. I also have unrealistic hope for Marquise Lee, guy is very capable when healthy and only 29, but likely to be injured and non factor.

Im buying the Amari Rodgers hype for a later pick or Dwayne Eskridge if we don't pick one high, also Jaelon Dardon is really interesting to me. All three bring big time speed which we clearly lack

Saints still 31 over the cap even with the sanders release and possible alexander release i believe. Do they gain any cap space with a brees retirement?

Brees already lowered his salary to the minimum, so the only remaining savings would be the difference between the veteran minimum and a less experienced player's minimum, about $400k max savings.

Atkins in trade talks? Gene Atkins? Surprise. The guy has a 16 million cap number. Why would anybody give up anything for atkins who’s 33.

Odds makers don’t set odds on opinions they set odds based upon the bets they receive.
I’ll put you down as thinking every team is the same next year as they were last year even when their QB retires and they now are pushing it all in in Carson wentz or when they have 60 million to spend to improve their team after enduring a season with the worst QB in the league and 9 opt outs
teams are NOT the same as last year. However, I don't accept that the patriots are now in the same category as the colts and cards. And why? We also will lose players. The answer is that we are in the same category because we are on a patriots message board.

Not as the #1 WR, but for the #2. The Pats would need another WR if they took Hilton. Hilton played pretty well the second half of last year.
Signing Hilton would be a step backwards, imho.

From what the Pats had this past season?

I am not advocating for Hilton, but I wouldn't be upset if he was signed just not as the Pats' #1 WR.

Yes. Meyers played better than Hilton considering the differences in QB. Adding a 32 year old receiver when there are younger options out there doesn't make sense at all..

Brees will be designated as a post June 1st cut so that the remaining 11.5M in SB amortization will count in 2022 instead of this year.

Trade for Minshew; draft Waddle and then Trask; sign Henry and Hilton. Take a look at guys like Tate, Rudolph and maybe Smith-Schuster.
Not too many better situations I have read Cousin.....Kudos!

I'll throw one back with some fun "it will never happems" to stir up the poster masses

Throw stones if you like....

Players we should resign:

Andrews (no brainer)
Guy
Butler (he might be a luxury signing)
Wise (I think he is coming into his own. If cheap, why not?)
Justin Bethel
Nick Folk

FA Musts:

QB Alex Smith Yes this guy. (He has maybe two more years left. Won't break the bank from other signings .Should be important if we Draft Mac Jones as a better "teacher" than Cam. Great story continues if Josh can make him successful, Very smart and knows defenses. Pending QB Draftee.
LB Van Noy (seemless fit. Knows what is expected) Like Andrews a no brainer
TE Kyle Rudolph (seems to want to play here). Can block ....and catch because you will see below, the two TEs I want to add...not so much
DT Henry Anderson (appears to be the perfect Patriot. Can generate rush from the inside especially if we lose Butler)
DE Jadeveon Clowney That's right...I like this guy who's only 28. (He was the ideal pass rusher. But he does more. He pressures. When healthy he is good (HE IS) and he would present a situation that Teams MUST game plan for him. BB will love that. He also sets the edge. Can play inside too.
LB Matt Milano. Typical Pats traits. Teddy....ish.
WR John Brown. Speed merchant. In 9 games 33 receptions and 3 TDs and the Bills dId not use him. They save $8mm by cutting him. Cheap WR?
WR Rashard Higgins. Might be the most underated WR in FA class Can play inside or out. Shouldn't break the bank

No real high end signings but better than typical Patriots bottom of the barrel FA leftovers. We can sign these 8 FAs rather than perhaps 3-4 big money signings.

Draft day moves:

1-Draft TE Pitts Florida and #15, Think H back and fled out TE. Blocking is a valiant attempt only but could be fair with coaching.
2-Trade Gilmore and 3rd Round pick #96 (comp) AND one of your "3" 4th Rounders#145 to the Cards (they have no 4th Rounder) who are rumored in the Gilmore hunt, for the Cards pick #16 in the first round and then take Mac Jones Alabama
3-With our 2nd Round pick #46 Draft OLB Jabril Cox LSU and use him like we did Jamie Collins all over in coverage and rushing
4-Trade N'Keal Harry and our 4th Round pick #139 to the Browns for OBJ (CAP move for them. Maybe Mayfield can mold Harry)
5-With our 4th Round pick #120 Draft G Quinn Meinerz Wisc. Whitewater. We lose Thuney. Wynn has his option year and Trent Brown, although an OT, a one year signing so pieces might have to be moved. If we sign Andrews it's the typical Pats one year deal. Meinerz can play center. Scar?
6-Trade our 5th Round pick #159 and OT Marcus Cannon (CAP help for us) to the Eagles who need OL for Zach Ertz TE.
7-With our 6th Round pick #197 Draft Shi Smith WR South Carolina. Very underrated with speed and quickness and catches everything
8- With our 6th Round pick #199 (Brady) Draft Simi Fehoko, WR Stanford a 6’4" 227lb receiver who may run around 4.4 at his pro day.( plays like Claypool of Steelers) Very under the radar. Look at his film.
9-With our 6th Round pick #225 Draft Patrick Johnson Tulane Edge and OLB hIS sophomore year, to the tune of 10 sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss.. Speed and versatility. High Football I.Q. BB traits
10-With our 7th Round pick #241 Robert Rochell Central Arkansas, and he had 77 career tackles, ten interceptions, and 28 pass break-ups. Long arms. Very athletic. Needs professional coaching to flourish at the NFL level from small school....Think Malcom Butler but bigger

These moves should fit in our CAP.

Spitballin' some other moves:

Jalen Mills S of the Eagles did a solid job switching to Free Safety from CB. He's only 26. Kind of like what happened to McCourty. Maybe this is McCourty's replacement? 4.48 speed and can cover. We have some solid Strong Safeties but not FS.

Adrian Peterson RB . Yep. I watched his tape, He still runs hard and can catch. I could see him as the backup to Harris, with JJ Taylor the change of pace guy. I could see Peterson with over 400 yards rushing and 30 catches as a back up. This will make people angry. Takes the place of White and Burkhead. Wants to play. Money is not the issue.

Kyle Allen QB if the Panthers cut him. The Pats wanted him before.

Thoughts?

Sanders just put up a 60 catch season. If we don’t want to go crazy money wise I wouldn’t hate the idea of sanders on a 1 year deal.

Latest NFL Salary Cap per team: For us, this does not include Trent Brown's salary. A lot of teams still over the cap, which means more cuts coming and more salary restructures.

Calculations:

Cap Space = (Team Salary Cap) - (Active Cap Spending) - (Dead Money)

Meh, Pats beat the Cardinals last year and of the two teams, I expect the Patriots to be WAY better this year compared to last, particularly since the Cards don't have much CAP space.

As for the Dolts, well, they're the Dolts and always will be. The team is well-managed financially, but, like the Cowboys, under-perform always.
Carson Wentz doesn't look like the guy to lift that hump.
