AB isn't going anywhere. I think he'll sign for peanuts just to play with Brady.
Brady is the only guy that ever pushed to give AB a chance to redeem himself.
It was expected that they'd sign 2 of the 3. So it would be surprising if they come to terms with Barrett. Now just sign Suh, Gronk and Brown, and then see what’s left over. I’m against a Barrett extension regardless of whether or not they can make it work financially right now. They’ll have FAs agains next year. Lots of young talented guys on rookie deals. Don’t piss money down the drain just because you can.
This is a great example of a team going all in to win in the next couple years. Yeah, it creates some likely pain down the road, but helps keeps a great defense intact for the next two years which is their SB window with Brady at QB.Interesting garafalo said it’s a 5 year deal with 3 voidable years for LB Lavonte David with a cap number of 3.5 million for the Bucs this year. That’s pretty sweet.
Absolutely amazing day. Godwin and David both back.
Miler
Me too. Godwin is special and he is 24. I think they got both done. Barrett is probably odd man out.
Eh. I think the drops are being overstated. He had a broken finger that he was playing through and again he is only 24 and had never been in the post-season before. I highly doubt you ever see that many drops from him in the post-season again.Godwin is good player, but special players don't drop 5-6 balls in a playoff game
David told Brandon Marshall that both Barrett and Suh deals are in the works. It seems Licht is super committed to keeping that awesome Dline together. I love it.Absolutely amazing day. Godwin and David both back.

Teams are just adding void years and large bonuses to push the cap hit to the future when the cap is expected to be much higher. That's crazy. I'll believe it when I see it. Maybe Tom plays for $1? Lmao
Although I've been saying this reduced cap situation hampering teams is overplayed. Obviously if you're $50M over the cap it would be a problem but not for the majority of teams.
Exactly. Obviously they're also cutting players they probably wouldn't which increases the pool of available players. That's the only benefit I see, the FA pool increasing.Teams are just adding void years and large bonuses to push the cap hit to the future when the cap is expected to be much higher.

I know I'm kicking the hell out of the dead horse, but Tampa's historically sound system of not pushing money forward has the team in an excellent position to handle the salary drop and demands of a SB winner. That's crazy. I'll believe it when I see it. Maybe Tom plays for $1? Lmao

Defensive tackle Vita Vea, Buccaneers — $7.638 million (No criteria).
Great stats here. Thanks!I know I'm kicking the hell out of the dead horse, but Tampa's historically sound system of not pushing money forward has the team in an excellent position to handle the salary drop and demands of a SB winner.
Brady - clean extension
Jensen - clean extension
Smith - clean extension
Gholston - clean extension or cut
Brate/Howard - clean $6m cuts (if wanted/needed)
And that doesn't include the players with small money to bite. That's just the players with $0 to bite.
Then, you add this:
The NFL has set the salary cap at $182.5 million for the 2021 season on Wednesday and they’ve also set the amount that teams will have to pay if they exercise their fifth-year option on 2018 first-round picks.
Fifth-year option salaries are set for 2018 first-round picks
which gives the Bucs a high end defender on a very palatable salary for 2022, meaning there's less concern about next year's numbers. So it's not really a question of "Can they?", unless some of the players price themselves a lot higher than most have speculated, but a question of "Will they?"
Agree.I know I'm kicking the hell out of the dead horse, but Tampa's historically sound system of not pushing money forward has the team in an excellent position to handle the salary drop and demands of a SB winner.

I find their TE situation to be very interesting, because of the potential "if" question.Agree.
There's something about Howard's 5th year option that doesn't make him a good candidate to cut. Not sure what the particulars are but Brady seemed to like him.
Opportunity for a rare player-Player trade to fill a weakness, maybe at CB?I find their TE situation to be very interesting, because of the potential "if" question.
IF the team can make all of its signings and keep its needed open money (draft/injury signings, etc...) at a sufficient level without messing with the 3 TEs who'd be making some real money, do they look at last year and say "Thank goodness with had that 3rd TE for depth", or do they look at it and say "Well, we didn't need Howard, so..."?
Well, this seems to fall under "hey, interesting timing":Opportunity for a rare player-Player trade to fill a weakness, maybe at CB?
Rick Stroud
Not happening. Nor should it.

@NFLSTROUD @gregauman Guys, in my opinion, the @Buccaneers could let go of to create more cap space: OJ Howard - $6mil / $0 dead cap William Gholston - $5.5mil / $0 dead cap #GoBucs
