DRAFT BGC 2021 Pre-Draft/Patriot-Type Prospect(s) thread

I have to be honest the Fields stuff is interesting and a little much imo. I haven't heard one good case against Fields yet. If you come across any that are worth while please send them this way. I'd be absolutely thrilled with Fields and w/e supposed problems he has. The longer I do this the quicker I can spot bs. All these guys are smarter than me but sometimes those types can't get out of their own way in that regard.

Remember this from last year?

Here's a good example of what Fields is looking at every drop back. Not easy and a lot is asked of him but also his WR. Let's not forget they are running options, reading coverage and have to declare (through stem) as well. At times he's been waiting for them to get open. And if they're not declaring properly or running a proper route it makes his job a lot harder.

It's a difficult offense to run nevermind excel at which he did. He does have some trouble with route recognition, slight hiccup at times pulling the trigger, at times he'll pass up some easy gains. He's incredibly accurate though all over the field. He absolutely can and does go through reads and works concepts. Anyone saying he can't either has an agenda or no clue what they're talking about with all due respect. I saw the article @patsfanfromoversea posted and frankly think its nonsense. Nothing against you @patsfanfromoversea , post away, I love how active you've been. More than welcome here. Please don't take this towards you.

Non taken;) I just thought when i read this, the things mentioned in this article would be worth discussing here and provide some information we can evaluate here. This wasn't my opinion, I did not watch OSU enough to evaluate this. I thought especially the part about OSU offense scheme for WR who can choose while running their route between for example vertical stuff or cross, so Fields obv have to wait until the WR makes his choice cause he can't know for sure which direction the WR will go depending on the coverage. That definitely has to be taken in consideration, like you mentioned their offense is complex af, so with this in regard I wouldn't worry too much about looking at his primary target too often.
I like the fact that he is maybe falling down on some boards. I would welcome any of the top 4 qb's with our First Round Pick. The Mariota, Jimmy G, Fitz, Brissett's of this world aren't convincing me a lot. Of Course signing a vet will be neccesary to redshirt a potential QB Draft Pick but I wouldn't be thrilled if we are left with the vet and Stidham.
I just don't believe it myself after watching Fields but who am I? 7 times?? I'm sorry I'm calling bs on that.
There are always different opinions about prospects especially QB's. The other day i watched on youtube the second todd mcshay Mock with also Kiper and even they had different views to trades/players taken and they are doing this since idk 20 years. The history of some busts also shows obv that even teams have issues with evaluating prospects, so i don't mind at all when you say to sth. that is BS. That's the whole point of this thread I thought next to get info, discuss prospects and maybe draft strategies. It wouldn't be as useful as it is, if anyone had the same view about a player.

He has trouble with route/coverage recognition but so much of that comes with experience. And again that offense is complex as hell and he was borderline special at times. A lot of struggles for these prospects comes working the MOF or they get caught up working across the field bc you'll have man-man match/zone- zone match on separate sides. While you have 2 WRS working a concept on one side - slant/flat, flat/curl w/e. Than on the other you have two guys running verticals but have to read coverage to decide on post-go-corner or w/e. Not easy, out of all the big name guys he ran the hardest offense imo.

He's a tough kid that will absolutely stand in the pocket or make a play with his legs without fear. That doesn't get talked about enough. He's a big name kid but isn't soft imo.
Incredibly accurate to any and all parts of field with velocity. He has some gas. Has a change up, can feather it or put some nice touch on it.

I think he is competitive. Watching how he played against clemson was great, certainly a bit surprising for me but he wanted revenge for the year before and showed up in a big game. I like his dual threat ability as mentioned earlier that could help him early on to develop.
He looks like a slightly bigger Watson in a lot of ways.

I love Wilson and Lance but Fields played against legit NFL talent every week and looked great for the most part. Certainly not a can't miss guy but you gamble on him in a second if available imo.

Poise, play making ability & arm talent (so much talent - vertically but he has some touch)

Red-shirt sophomore Trey Lance is a thick-legged, 220-pound quarterback with speed to threaten a secondary, quickness to shake or bounce away from pursuit, and the balance and strength to drop the pads and run through linebackers. Those aren’t even his most compelling traits as a football player.

It only took a handful of throws and runs early on in my six-game study of Lance to see some of my favorite NFL quarterback’s style in Lance’s game—Steve McNair.

McNair was a Pro-Bowl quarterback built like a tailback who possessed the grit of a fullback. He was a skilled passer who could throw on the move to his left or right and he had a deep all with range and accuracy. McNair excelled at maneuvering crowded pockets and maintaining his eyes on the coverage.

"Players respected McNair’s game far more than fans and media and if McNair and Dante Culpepper switched teams or the Titans drafted Randy Moss instead of Kevin Dyson, McNair had the game to earn multiple MVPs.

Lance’s high release, mobile accuracy, vertical game, and running style remind me of McNair. While still refining this skill, so does his maneuvering of the pocket".

Keep posting stuff

Arguably Lawrence's best trait (ive mentioned this before) is his ability to throw on the move towards his non dominant side. Man he could be really good. If I'm Jackson I'm targeting Bateman late 1 and Carter round 2. Bateman, Shenault, DJ, Robinson, Carter would be a nice start.

I did some mocks with other teams just to see " what i would do". I usually tried to use the other First round pick to get them an Offense Tackle. I value the Offense Line a lot esp when they are going to select Lawrence and probably start them. He needs a good run game to develop and good protection. Their Offense Line isn't really the best and I think they can easy select a second rd. or third round WR. Maybe even Rodgers in the fourth idk. I had them going with Radunz, Jenkins, Cosmi several times but better weapons would be sick for them as well. Shenault really suprised me, he played really good and tough, Robinson as well.

They definitely need OL help. I wouldn't be shocked to see them go OL/CB/DL with their first few picks.

Me too, their defense is awful. They could basically need help at every defense position. If they go with CB they would have a good duo with Henderson on the other side.

Interesting fact of Justin Fields from NFL Scouts.

The more in-depth evaluations from some slower but more thorough and dependable evaluators are coming, the more of a carousel QB draft is becoming (while looking fixed only a few weeks ago):

Stay the **** away from this dude, Bill.

The 49ers have 10 WR on their roster including Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and Jordan Matthews. I would be surprised to see them add another receiver early on when they have issues in other places that need to be addressed.

Edit: Barmore with 12 pressures in 2 playoff Games against ND and OSU IOL is really impressive tbh

Smarter than me

Stats are getting on my nerves

Fields has concerns but the recent stuff is just nonsense imo. I'm glad people smarter than me can articulate better. This goes for all prospects though. And I've made this argument about other players and prospects. Go after them for real reasons, everyone has stuff they can clean up. No need to push narratives or agendas. Mac Jones included. No reason to say the talent around was why he succeeded or look for crazy pff stats lol. I like pff but lately some of there stuff is out there.

Anyway evaluating QB's is very hard. Not surprised we end up here every year.

Played WR & DB in HS. Started at OSU.

Has played every spot in the secondary I believe. LB/Box. Interesting sleeper.

Any information as to why he transferred from OSU if he was a starter there....

I believe his father was have health issues but honestly not much more than that.

The Parcell rules don't fit on many qb's on this draft, never heard about those before tbh
For those that dk or remember ...

The “Parcells Rules”

  • He must be a senior. No.
  • He must be a graduate. No.
  • He must be a three-year starter. No.
  • He must have at least 23 wins. No.

The “extras”

  • He must start 30 games. No.
  • He must complete 60% of his passes. Winner winner chicken dinner!
  • He must have a 2:1 TD-to-INT ratio. Are 30 touchdowns to 1 interception good?
