Asante goes off on Bill/Pats organization

Yeah my initial reaction was Butler must've offended little Steven when Chris Collinsworth kept asking why Butler wasn't out there.

Exactly what I suspect.

Scroll up and read the last five pages if you want to debate Malcolm Butler more, everything that needs to be said is already there.

Also stop listening to Felger and Mazz and grow an original thought for once...

That's fine, but Bill's alternatives weren't ready for the game.
They weren't at practice on Tue? Did Badmosi admit he wasn't mentally ready for the game/not prepared?

Off the top of my head, I can think of others. Many others. Just an example, the DB who was with a prostitute way past curfew. Robinson. He didn't play. There are others.
Barrett Robins, raiders OL who went AWOL the night before the super bowl.

Belichick said it was a football decision.

Part of the reason you guys hate him is because he isn't effusive enough in telling you what you want to hear. He says as little as possible.
Dude, nobody hates Belichick. Many of the guys arguing here have said he's the GOAT coach. We've all enjoyed that he's led nine SB bound teams, winning six, but these guys just aren't going to hold him above criticism.

On the other hand, guys like you and others on this forum have Belichick on a pedestal like he's some sort of Demi-God beyond reproach; just because he runs the team like he's working at the NSA, when it's just a football team providing entertainment no different than going to watch monster trucks crush cars. LMAO

Jordan Richards is a disgrace to the professional athlete. WTF was beLichick thinking with this loser? I don't care what specific coverages they were in, he's a defensive back, and Malcolm Butler unequivocally would have been a significant improvement over Richards (0 INT's and 6 passes defended for his ENTIRE CAREER... whereas Butler 17 INT's and 82 passes defended). Johnson Bademosi after SB 52 went on to play in 2% of defensive snaps as he bounced around between three different teams... he didn't play in 2020. Belichick thought so highly of Eric Rowe that he played 13% of defensive snaps for the Pats in 2018... he registered 1 pass defended. 1! But yes, all of these clowns were a better option then Butler who since SB 52 has started every single game when available for another team.

I don't care if they were there or not, Rowe was graded one of the worst CB's in football. Badmostly played how we expected him to play. Bad. I highly doubt they had a "good" week of practice.

Butler was not good in 2017. Fine. However, the alternatives weren't better, which is something that can't be acknowledged by those who defend the benching.

Sure... ad nauseaum all you guys can talk about is how BB screwed up in a thousand ways... 2017, 2019, years they won a ring... every season he sucks... but we really want him and nobody else to rebuild the team... we just don't want him drafting... good grief.

Check the local paper. There's probably a support group for survivors suffering from traumatic separation anxiety because of Tom leaving...

Chris is a sick bastard. He probably heard something and was dying to spill it on national TV but was also afraid of Belichick's wrath.

"Little Steven," so you don't hate BB, you hate him and his sons.

Well first, I'm not the one who typed that, not that it matters. Belichick has been given ample opportunity to provide an explanation, either through his own words or through a leaked report, like he's done for years and years and like any coach does. He has chosen not to provide an explanation, despite that (a) it has nothing to do with Butler's free agency now and probabably didn't then either, and (b) a controversial decision like this has never been hushed despite your attempt to normalize the code of silence.

I see you're back to your drama queen attacks with YoU hAtE hIm!!! diversion tactics to avoid logic.

It's been rumored for years that Butler had a run-in with Steven Belichick. If Belichick suspended Butler over such an incident, it would explain why he'd be so reluctant to provide details and why the organization is so squeamish and inconsistent about the timeframe. Maybe Butler did something really bad and deserving of suspension, but Belichick was concerned that it would look like nepotism and is protecting his son from the wrath.

I don't know so am speculating. I am speculating because no one has the confirmed story from the Patriots, which is due to Belichick making sure of that, and Team Bill (such as yourself) trying to explain the benching as an Xs and Os decision, which is actually the most insulting you can get when it comes to giving Belichick the benefit of the doubt.

Belichick isn't the moron you think he is. He's a brilliant guy; hence, there's obviously a part of the story we don't know about. I side with Bill here; I'm sorry you hate him so much that you actually think he'd do that to his team and reputation if he didn't feel like he had to. You think he's actually that stupid to not play Butler on a single defensive snap because he couldn't find an opportunity where it would benefit the team. Shame on you, Bill hater.

Sure... in a draft thread when Dawson was just selected. In a Kony Ealy thread when he was just traded for... not enough for you.

Not really since you never really panned Bill like you said you did. You quasi-criticized the players, then followed it up with giving both the benefit of the doubt. With Dawson, it was having a great workout that maybe you weren’t privy to. With Ealy, you pumped up his ability as a pass rusher. You’ve never directly criticized Bill. I’ve asked you for those posts time and time again and have never gotten them

Bill is horrible.... is that good, or should I go find where his boat is moored and punch a hole in the hull?

Something tells me punching a hole in the hull won’t be the first thing that comes to mind for you if you find Bill’s boat.

No, you agreed wholeheartedly, passive aggressive is no way to go through life. Just say the Belichick family ruined your life and be done with it.

Uh--If JaMarr Chase isn't there or Smith, I am definitely not going to complain if they take Micah Parsons.
Me neither. I’d say he won’t fall to us unless something else comes out about his character though. I’d prefer a fat body, 0-tech toilet clogger, but I’m fine with Shelvin in the 2nd/3rd round.

I also criticized games, passes from Tom Brady without saying he was terrible at his job... that's objective criticism. Criticizing Bill's decisions is criticizing Bill.

Just because my criticisms aren't passive aggressive hit posts where I pull back just short of saying someone should be fired or because I'm not part of the "fire Bill" fan club, that doesn't make my criticisms any less valid.

You and I have not, and will never agree on this issue.

If he can't focus for the week leading up to the biggest game of the year and the 3hrs during he should not play.

He admitted it and Bill knew it.
Of course not. You’ve never been able to bring yourself to admit that Rowe and Bademosi were better options. Rowe sure did look focused, though, as he was getting torched in the first quarter. He focused on the back of his man’s jersey. I saw it.

Naaahhh...when Bill is gone, I'll have always appreciated him, even though he's made some pretty big mistakes. He's one of the best football minds ever and has taught me many things about business practices. I can have a healthy admiration and respect for Bill without whitewashing everything he does, and in fact, since I recognize his flaws and mistakes, it makes me appreciate his greatness even more. He's human.

On other other hand, I'm quite certain your irrational, tribal viewpoint isn't even about Bill himself but about some deranged idea of loyalty and team. When he leaves, you'll be crying about how he betrayed you and how he never truly loved the Patriots like you thought he did. He was a well-paid, long-term employee that did a lot of great things before going to his next destination. I predict you'll turn on him quickly because your insecure, emotion-driven opinions reveal that about you.

Defensive backfield play doesn't happen in a vacuum. How many sacks/pressures did the Pat's front have?

Zero is the answer, it was a complete defensive failure. Most of their best defenders were out with injury.

They had arguably the best corner in the NFL out there, corners rely on the front to create pressure.

I question how something/someone can be wildly successful to the point of unparalleled success while also being bad.

Conversely I question how Butler could play poorly all season in 2017 but would have been the savior at the end when the Eagles offensive line was manhandling the Pats defensive front... maybe we should have played Butler at DT where 350 pound Alan Branch would have been... makes about as much sense as playing him at a position he's never played like Strong Safety.
