Asante goes off on Bill/Pats organization

When I see this, I assume that the player mismanaged his finances, blew every penny on frivolities, and now he is broke.
Broke, ad looking for a few minutes in the sun in order to secure some interviews and rebuild their finances a little bit. I'd be willing to 85% guarantee that's exactly what samuel is doing.

The throw was too high. Asante got some decent air and it glanced off his fingertips. It wasn't a rainbow throw either where he could have taken another step back. He would have never both caught that ball and stayed inbounds.

Not catchable. Super close, but not quite in range. No matter how much I wish it was. Samuel positioned himself well, got some good air on his jump, and the throw was just barely out of his range. It would have taken a Superman leap to bring that thing down.

Anyway. there's a HUGE difference between "bounced off his hands" and "glanced off his fingertips." The throw Samuel jumped for glanced off his fingertips. Samuel actually made a very good play for the ball, it just wasn't to be.

It was not easy but definitely catchable IMO especially for a guy who likes to think he deserves to be paid like an elite corner. Lots of corners make that catch. He was cursing himself after the play and rightfully so.

If we give him too much grief for that play then it’s balanced by the fact we don’t give him enough grief for freelancing away from his man David Tyree on the helmet catch play. Even Rodney said that was on Samuel.

Either way he won’t ever be known for being a good corner he will always be known for helping the Pats lose that game in historical fashion. Some legacy.

Agree...people give him too much crap about that play and not enough crap about the helmet catch. Was it Rodney who dropped the easier INT earlier in the drive?

I really don't think so. I still say it was too high. It was a high line throw that glanced off his fingers. which happens a few times every game. if it wasn't for the situation no one would even remember the play.

I actually jumped off my seat in celebration as the ball went through his hands. I guess that puts me in the "was a sure fire int" camp.
Me too. If that wan't a sure fire INT, it was the worst camera angle ever.

Asante was a good player but he won’t be remembered for that. He will be remembered only for his role in the 1 in 18-1. No matter what he has to say about BB or the Patriots that is his legacy. Just the facts. Truth hurts.
Samuel was better than good and I don't think Philly remembers him at all for anything he did in a Patriots uniform. Samuel is way down on the list of reasons why the Patriots lost SB 42.

I don't know what you're discussing, but I'm talking about Belichick's coaching, his ability to take average players (defenses especially) and make them into Super Bowl contenders.
What championship defenses did beLichick construct with average players? It never happened. Not once.

6 Super Bowl victories. Smoke it!
Brady led game-winning drives in all 6. Won MVP in 4. And how did beLichick repay him?... by treating him like a has-been and pushing him out the door. beLichick is not a great GM but his miscalculation on Brady is the pinnacle of his incompetence. He was talking up Brady's demise before Max Kellerman.

The roster turnover in 2000 was the thing that won us a Super Bowl in Belichick's second year. Brady was great, but just a game manager at that point. It was all Belichick. He won us that Super Bowl. So people like you have waited 20 years to criticize Belichick. 20 years!

It's been a very long time, but really any I told you sos ring hollow. 1 down year over a 20 year run. And not only that, but the greatest dynasty in the history of sports began with a down year, then a Super Bowl victory brought to you by Belichick's defense, and it ended similarly with a Super Bowl victory brought to you by Belichick's defense, followed by a down year that began the roster overturn we're seeing now.
I started criticizing beLichick in 2006 which was the first time he royally f*cked up the roster. Specifically hanging Brady out to dry with a garbage supporting cast.

beLichick also f*cked up 2007 (SB 42 Hobbs covering Burress), 2008 (couldn't hack it without Brady), 2013 (season II he screwed Brady), 2015 (too many mistakes to mention here but we all know them), 2017 (SB 52 his greatest f*ck up), 2019 (all the poor drafts coming home to roost), 2020 (back in the toilet without Brady just like 2000... more of this to come).

Malcolm Butler f---ed over his teammates in the Philly Super Bowl and he knew it, that's why he was standing on the sidelines crying prior to the game.

If he felt the team were in the wrong... he would be fuming, not crying. He was a disgruntled malcontent over his contract and was our worst starting player all season... then he acted a fool the week leading up to the biggest game of the year. That's why once he left to Tennessee and thought it over he was repentant and thanked New England for everything they did for him. If BB wanted to be a real **** he could have broadcast to the league what a disgruntled little child Butler was prior to the Super Bowl and him being a free agent costing him millions of dollars, instead Bill took the high road and did right by a player who screwed his team over on the biggest stage.

Malcolm Butler wasn't good in 2017, in fact he was terrible. He started the season by refusing to communicate with Stephon Gilmore which set the defense back to begin the year. Then he got destroyed by the Dolphin's Jay Cutler and 5'6" Jakeem Grant, then after getting repeatedly burned he threw the coaching staff under the bus... as if they were at fault for him letting some scrubs destroy him. He is entirely overrated as a starter in general and was benched in favor of Adoree Jackson in Tennessee and now he's likely to be a cap casualty. The guy was an UDFA for a reason and isn't fast, he was great when he had Darrelle Revis to mimic... he peaked in year three and has gone downhill since.

The notion that Butler would have changed the outcome of that Super Bowl is laughable. They rushed for 164 yards on us, Hightower, Alan Branch, Jon Jones and eventually Chung were all hurt and that's why they lost... they lost at the line of scrimmage. After the Pats put Gilmore on Alshon Jeffrey the Eagle's WR's did squat in the second half, the only receiving weapon that did anything was Zach Ertz and that's because Chung broke him arm. Last I checked Butler didn't play SS.

He certainly owed his teammates more then trying to submarine them at the most crucial time of the year. I love the guy, but he was wrong and he knew it... that's why he was crying.
beLichick made Butler cry. beLichick tried to stick it to Butler, humiliate him, and it blew up in his face. Butler said he could have changed the outcome of the game. Brady questioned why Butler was standing on the sideline. The players supported Butler after the game. You're just making up sh*t to defend the indefensible. beLichick f*cked over Butler, the entire roster, the coaches, the Krafts, the fanbase, etc.

beLichick "took the high road and did right by a player"... that's the most ridiculous statement ever put to words on this forum.

I went to Belichick's first game back in 2000 in Cleveland. I was astounded at the hatred the Browns' fans had for him at the time, mainly because he let Bernie go.
They hated him because without the winning he's easily hateable. beLichick was a failure in Cleveland. No surprise there, he had no quarterback.

Yeah

That's it. keeping digging there Sherlock. You might find something on the way to China. Take these other posters with you. You can hold hands at night.

My responses to your posting is an act of mercy. I have stated I am glad Brady is gone because my opinion correctly determined it's time to rebuild. You are the opposite and are miserable. I'm very happy.

If you bother to listen, you can be happy too.

This offseason has the real possibility to be the most interesting in league history.....yet we get you and the other dongs keep poisoning every thread.

Ian

This one is a classic example of the intellectual and emotional poison that threatens to overwhelm patsfans.
What do you want Ian to do?... ban anyone who questions beLichick's stupidity? Can't you just contribute to the threads without calling on Ian to change your diaper.

I’m sure Belichick had something to do with it but to credit him with rings as an assistant is laughable.
Belichick getting credit for anything is wrong in the mind of a hater.

What childish crap did he do? Please be specific.
I wasn't there but teammates commented about it off the record after the season was over.

Off the record? How is it then that you're mentioning on it?

Are you just going to ignore all of his teammates who supported him on the record?

Butler was crying because Bill was mean to him... lol, but what I said was "stupid?"

Butler was disgruntled all season, let his contract status effect his play, got smoked by Jay Cutler and a 5'6" nobody receiver and blamed his coaches, then tried to send a message the week before the biggest game of the year and in turn screwed over his teammates. He was overrated to begin with and hasn't been good since 2016.

Pretty much all I've learned from reading your posts is that BB is responsible for everything wrong in this world. Bill makes you cry more than Malcolm Butler... lol

Again, BB said nothing but good things about him to make sure he didn't sabotage his free agent prospects. His teammates certainly wouldn't go on record to slam him.

Show me on this doll where BB hurt you...

And that Franchise Tag contract ended up making Asante the highest paid Patriot during the 2007 season where Brady & Moss set NFL records. And then he fails to earn that big contract by whiffing on a (possible) Super Bowl winning INT. Top 11 cap hits that year:

Asante Samuel
$7,790,000
Tom Brady
$7,345,160
Richard Seymour
$6,706,720
Rosevelt Colvin (IR)
$6,433,160
Kyle Eckel
$5,856,752
Matt Light
$4,758,887
Mike Vrabel
$4,084,340
Adalius Thomas
$3,406,720
Kevin Faulk
$3,003,720
Randy Moss
$3,001,560

Screw you Asante.

Kyle Eckel must be a mistake

Whether Butler was good or bad doesn’t matter... in what world?

Once Gilmore was manned up on Alshon Jeffrey, Rowe and Bademosi played well, especially considering a defensive front with no Branch and Hightower could get no pressure on Foles.

Jordan Richards was playing in the second half because Chung got hurt, why would Butler be playing strong safety?

The Eagles offensive line and TE’s manhandled the Pats D. The Pats D was missing 350 pound Alan Branch and Donta. Football is won in the trenches. The Pats won a Super Bowl with Troy Brown starting at nickel corner... the 2017 game was lost at the line of scrimmage. Butler is a red herring by the BB haters and otherwise clueless fans.

You can’t seriously be telling me that Bademosi is a better player than Butler? Even for 1 night.

Kyle Eckel must be a mistake
It wasn't a mistake.

If you click on the link, the NEP did some funky cap stuff w/ him that year.

Again, BB said nothing but good things about him to make sure he didn't sabotage his free agent prospects. His teammates certainly wouldn't go on record to slam him.
He friggin sat him in the Super Bowl. He doesn't have to say anything bad. Belichick wanted to win the game with Butler sobbing on the sideline... he was trying to sabotage Butler in the worse possible way by marginalizing him as a contributor to the team's success. It blew up in his face with the defense getting destroyed by a backup quarterback.

And not only did Butler's teammates not slam him, they supported him.

Here's part of what Malcolm Butler posted on Twitter and Instagram after the Super Bowl:

"During my four year career with the Patriots I have always given it everything I have to play at a high level, and would never do anything to hurt my teams' chances of winning a game, including this year's Super Bowl where I visited with my family every night. During Super Bowl week I never attended any concert, missed curfew, or participated any of the ridiculous activities being reported. They are not only false, but hurtful, to me and my family. Although I wish could have contributed more to help my team win, I have to get ready for the next opportunity."

Tom Brady's reply:

"Love you Malcolm. You are an incredible player and teammate and friend. Always!!!!!!"

These are some of the players who supported Butler by liking his Instagram message:
Phillip Dorsett, Elandon Roberts, Harvey Langi, Cody Hollister, Vincent Valentine, Martellus Bennett, Marcus Cannon, Jacoby Brissett, Justin Coleman, LeGarrette Blount, Brandon Browner, Jamie Collins and Rob Ninkovich

He was on the field for nearly 100% of the defensive snaps for 3 straight years. He played 100% of the defensive snaps in the divisional round and the conference championship game. You questioning Belichick? If he sucked so bad then why was Belichick literally sending him out there for 3 straight years?

Why did Belichick offer Butler a contract extension prior to the 2017 season? Reportedly a six-year, $66M contract with $25.5M guaranteed. Obviously Belichick thought Butler was good enough to lock him up for a long-term contract but apparently you know better from your basement in Foxboro.

Samuel was better than good and I don't think Philly remembers him at all for anything he did in a Patriots uniform. Samuel is way down on the list of reasons why the Patriots lost SB 42.

Were you even around when the Patriots defense was declared the least talented D in all of football in 2001? In retrospect, it had Ty Law... &... Willie McGinest. But you forget about McGinest being considered a bust in this league until Belichick came to town. Anyway, they weren't start studded.

Talentwise, the 1996 defense was probably worse than average. Ty Law was a rookie.

The 2018 defense had one All-Pro, Stephon Gilmore. No one else even made the Pro Bowl. The only other Patriot who had even been selected to a Pro Bowl was Donte Hightower just once two years earlier. Most stellar defenses have multiple stars.

Belichick put together a dominant roster over 20 years and won 6 Super Bowls. The fact that you're been criticizing him for a decade and a half tells me why I should probably ignore your posts from now on. In fact, ON IGNORE.
