Cam says he would be happy to return to the Pats

Cam isn't as good as Tom so part of it is him and part of it is the receivers. People can't pretend they aren't making QB's look worse.

Yeah, I mean brady went from 25 tds and a wildcard loss to 43 tds and a superbowl win. That's a big difference in tds

It's massive. And that was with Edelman playing most of the year, and Gordon there for a huge chunk of the year, and Dorsett being there for most of the year. All 3 I would say are clear upgrades over the guys we have now.

Another year with that useless stumblebum would be a complete waste of time. If they go that route, I might just not watch next year, after 60 years as a fan. If the Pats don't care, why should I?

I keep thinking about this and going back to his first few games last year. He looked pretty good. They handled Miami and Vegas (both of which flirted with a wild card spot) without issue. They lost to Seattle but Cam delivered a game in which Edelman achieved his highest receiving yards in his career, and they came 1 yard short of a win. Yeah, Seattle's D is bad but still, his throwing looked good.

Then he gets COVID and comes back all messed up. It felt like team chemistry was out of sorts, Edelman is lost for the year, and Cam is just not performing well. Teams adjusted. That said... they delivered wins over Baltimore and Arizona, and smoked the Chargers. Their first loss to Buffalo was by 3 points. So it's not like it was a total disaster...

I'm not gonna claim that Cam can't be improved upon, but I am also left wondering if maybe... just maybe... with a proper offseason, some major improvements to his receiving targets, some competition along the lines of a Mariota type... he might still be salvageable...? Wishful thinking, maybe, but in the event that no better options are easily acquirable, or as part of an open competition, I wouldn't TOTALLY hate it...

This is where I am at. At minimum, in Cam we get:

- A leader that everybody can get behind.
- A great example for a young rookie QB to learn about being a pro.
- 2nd year in the system...the calculus should be easier this year.
- Weapons will be better this year.
- Full camp and off season.
- Would come relatively cheap as nobody else is shelling out 12M+, IMO.

The guy was 7-8 with no weapons, COVID brain fog, and some real bad luck (strip in Buffalo, incomplete pass vs. Denver with COVID brain fog, and being close to the goal line in Seattle)....flip those three games and we were 10-6....

I wouldn’t hate it....but yeah...I would want Stiddy to be upgraded in case Cam cannot throw the ball downfield because of shoulder limitations...not sold on that, BTW. I think it was more personnel related as well as his poor pocket pressure awareness and reading the field pre-snap.

Definitely. I just wonder how much cam newton can improve with better weapons. I have a hard time believing he could go from 8 passing tds to say 20-25.

It's hard to because Cam already had the lowest volume of attempts, which certainly wouldn't be the case if the receiving corp was better. So you are adding nearly 200 attempts on top of better weapons.

I think people should stop losing their minds about things like this.

Cam - Would you be open to returning to the Patriots if they want you back (or do you want to throw the organization under the bus)?

Bill - Would you bring Cam back to the team under the right circumstances (or so you want to feed him to the wolves right now by acknowledging he sucks)?

so now we have Mike Reiss adding to the growing crescendo of Cam Newton staying with the Patriots. It's going to happen people. Bill Belichick is not coaching a team with a rookie quarterback starting for him. And if Coach Bill thinks Mariota or some other bum is going to come in here and learn the McDaniel's system and be successful next year he is out of his mind.
I know reports are reports and could very well be fake news but it was all over the radio and social media last week that coach Bill doesn't believe in paying big money for a quarterback. I mean think about it he wouldn't pay Tom Brady 25 million last year, what makes people think he's going to pay a quarterback big money this year? All that's left is flotsam and Jetsam. And for the people that place blind faith in Coach Bill and GM bill never forget he drafted a full back in the first round

I think it’s going to be Mariota in New England and then they are drafting Kellen mond in the third

I think it's going to be Cam Newton or Mariota.

Is he receptive to a backup role? I think i heard him say he still wants to start, but who is going to sign him as a starter? For the right price id take him as a backup and short yardage specialist. One of the advantages he brought was he was nearly automatic in short yardage conversions. That could still be a huge difference maker

I think it's going to be Cam Newton or Mariota.
Part of me thinks that the league overall can be exploited by running a power run offense since teams are so pass-centric now, but the QB needs to be at least a decent passer beyond rushing skills. Whoever the QB is, they will probably still run that sort of offense. Makes me wonder if Jimmy is a realistic option since they really changed the offense last year. Going with a Cam/Mariota/rookie combo might be more likely?

I know it’s still very early in the offseason, however the longer we go without addressing the qb situation the more I feel like Cam will likely be back with the team at some point.

Other than cutting players and/or signing cut players, there's nothing for the teams to do right now.

His year as a Patriot proved to me 3 things. He’s a good person, a good teammate, and a horrible QB. I pray the Pats don’t bring him back. He’s not the answer in any way, shape or form.

Well said, I'm a huge fan of Cam the person.. He surprised me with his leadership ability and his maturity in the face of adversity/criticism.

Unfortunately he doesn't have the ability anymore to be the QB we need him to be, so its best to just focus on a young prospect to develop and grow with
