Speculation: BB could leave after 2021

Kraft is the one who implied Brady had lost it when he said Brady should have just retired when he was on top.
Because Kraft did not want Brady to play for another franchise. Kraft wanted Brady to stay kn NE and play in 2020 or retire on the spot.

Kraft has stated numerous times that if the choice was his that he would keep Brady. Kraft called Brady another Son.

Kraft made it totally clear that BB was running his team.

If Bill goes then wipe out the whole staff. No point in keeping any of his underlings.

If Bill is going i would rather go in a completely different direction, i don't want any of the Patricia's or McDaniels.

When he said it, it was clear to me that there was a belief within the Patriots (not only from Belichick) that Brady's skills were diminished and that he was hanging on too long.

Where there is smote theres fire.

Hard to believe that Kraft was not upset watching what would have been his 7th championship and vocal to Belichick about the decision to let Brady walk. Krafts actions and statements have always been to allow Brady to play until he retires as a Patriot. Belichick says next to nothing, but Linda Holidays tweet about Brady not throwing a TD vs Green Bay in the 2020 NFCC was telling.

Id say its the beginning of the end for BB. Hes been in NE over 20 years. Like Brady, BB has earned the right to leave whenever he decides its time.
The Patriots were not winning a title this year even if Brady stayed. He's the GOAT not a wizard. Most likely outcome would have been one and done as a Wildcard or losing their second playoff game. The weapons on offense are nonexistant.

Bill has always been very conscious of his legacy and perception. Brady winning doesn't help him, but it doesn't hurt him that much, as long as he also does well. If he doesn't do well for a long period of time though, he may retire with serious doubts about being the GOAT coach. If this season doesn't go the way Bill wants it to, and he doesn't have a good core set up for next year or hit on a young QB, I could see him bowing out to save face. It isn't like he's young either.

Not only that, if this year goes badly for Bill then things become MUCH tougher for him. He has already lost a fair amount of credibility with the players and FA after what happened this year, if he loses next year too then he will lose any allure he had to make this place a destination. Without that all he will have is a team with problems at QB, a grump hard ass coach no one wants to play with, and no one buying it to take less.

One players stop buying in you're done. No coach or manager is immune to that no matter how good you are. At some point a fresh start and reset becomes more valuable then the better coach, as odd as that sounds. So here is a hot take. If Bill loses again next year, the team is better off moving on from him. As hard as that is to swallow. It doesn't mean he isn't the best coach of all time automatically, it is just the reality of locker room culture and how quickly it can shift. It's a big reason Bill made all those excuses last year. He needs to convince his team it was just a speed bump. If they stop believe that then all is lost.

Are you saying that "a year too early rather than a year too late" applies to Bill Belichick too?

Oh my. That's certainly controversial. That's not the Patriot Way. Is it?

If Belichick goes then my thoughts on blowing the roster up change completely. Might be a very long time till we get back to the playoffs though.

Best if Bill sticks around and gets this rebuild going.

Seems a bit unrealistic that Belichick would walk away from coaching as the Patriots are spiraling downward while Brady is 3-peating in Tampa Bay.

And no one would be stupid enough to hire Patricia to run their professional football team. That part definitely is not true.

Would seem strange to me too. Kinda reminds me of this

There are many men in power that love to have their employees or staff competing with each other. I worked for quite a few (in a non-sports setting). I found it to be antiquated, divisive and unproductive. Obviously, in team sports when you're trying to make the team competition is required, but once they make the team, to continue to subject players to this constant pressure seems absurd.
