Mahomes will never be better than Brady

I'd be curious to see how many QBs besides Brady/Manning won after staying with the same team for a while in the cap era, particularly when they consistently drafted outside the top 10 picks.
Lets go down the list

1994- Young- that was it but counted 13.1% vs cap. Higest for a SB champ CHEATED
1995- Aikman- that was it
1996- Favre- that was it rookie deal
1997-1998 - Elway CHEATED
1999- Warner cheap deal
2000- Dilfer peanuts
2001,2003, 2004, 2014, 2016, 2018- GOAT
2002- Brad Johnson- Got for a song and a dance
2005, 2008- Rapist was still on a cheap deal in 08.
2006- P. Manning- EXCEPTION
2007,2011 E. Manning had big extensions but cap % was still < 12%
2009- Brees. 8.7% of cap
2010- Rodgers in 2nd deal but only ~7% of cap
2012- Flacco got big money after
2013- Wilson rookie deal
2015 - P Manning big money and everyone else on fairly cheap deals
2017- Wentz/Foles Cheap
2019-Mahomes cheap deal.
2020- Tom reasonably cheap deal.

Right now I have him at 3 as he is the best I've seen since Brady. Better than Manning, Rodgers, Brees and co. I might still take Montana and Staubach over him along with Brady, but time will tell.

The main issue with Mahomes that after your rookie deal is up it gets so much harder, particularly if your organization has to draft high year after year. It's interesting that when it comes to Manning Rodgers an Brees, they all won either after joining a new team or when they were cheap. Once the team was established and the top picks dried up they all had a much harder time. Only Manning was able to win after being on a team for more than 5 years. Thinking back now, that is a nice accomplishment. He was carried to it to a degree though, which is probably a credit to the Colt's GM.

Ben also won both his in his first 5 years when he was still being paid well below his value. I'd be curious to see how many QBs besides Brady/Manning won after staying with the same team for a while in the cap era, particularly when they consistently drafted outside the top 10 picks.
Eli won after being paid, Matt Ryan nearly did

Sure but what killed me about that bit was Romo came across as if it was a given that Mahomes will be in, and win, multiple Super Bowls.

Is Mahomes awesome? You bet. I was really impressed by him, he put it all on the line out there, he's impossible not to enjoy if you can put rooting interest aside.

Is Mahomes better than Rodgers and Brees? IDK, I'm not angry if you want to say yes but he needs to prove it for several more years before I'd agree.

In a league where, unless I'm remembering wrong, guys like Rodgers and Brees have been to 1 SB *each* to just talk casually about reaching several more SBs as if it is a given is unbelievably goofy.
Where I watched the game people were calling him baby GOAT and saying ya Mahomes is getting 3-4 rings. I was dumbfounded like y’all think it’s that easy

Yep, but it is the exception and not the rule. Next year is the last time Mahomes is relatively cheap. If he doesn't win that year getting 3 will definitely be an uphill challenge. Even Brady only won 3 after getting paid. The first 3 he won on the cheap. The 7th he won on a new team loaded with young cheap talent like Manning did. That being said what Brady did was more impressive than Manning as he was a driving force for his win, unlike Manning his.

The only guy KC drafted who is legit maybe a start in the making in the past few years is Sneed. Hardman is good, but he seems like a better athlete than football player. That is the price you pay for picking late, and KC is starting to feel the talent drain. If Mahomes wants a sniff at 4 IMO he HAS to win next year when he 'only' makes 25M.

you fell for the flash over substance media driven narrative that's infested all sports...Mahomes is better than that idiot Qb the Ravens hitched their wagon too but these "new" age QB's that use athleticism over actual studious pocket passers reading defenses have a limited shelf life. Mahomes is already showing a lot of wear and tear, not only in his legs but upstairs also. Concussions are cumulative and the way he plays will certainly lead to more.

Oh i agree. I didn't fall for anything. I was always very skeptical of Mahomes' longevity. The fact he was never as good as his first year starting is a bit of a red flag. I certainly don't think he'll transition into a traditional pocket passer. I hear all the time about how a guy will learn to pass or play a different style. It doesn't happen. I don't think he'll be nearly as good at 35 as he was this year.

As far as my comment on sniffing 4, I see that as his absolute ceiling at this point. And as I said, he needs to win next year to have a chance to do it. I think he will win 1 more for sure. For 3 I see it as possible, but i worry about his ability to stay healthy as you do. But the fact is it took Brady to stop him 2 of his 3 years. Brady won't be in his path every year for the next 3 years. After that, he'll have already fallen off a bit, but he'll still be arguably the best QB in the NFL at that point I think.

Next year is his last best chance. If he gets stopped or misses it, he will be hard pressed to win 3. But he will play so much of his career without the GOAT to stop him it might be possible.

This is exactly the point I try to make when people say Brady lacks athleticism but claim their favorite QB will develop the processing skills and leadership abilities that Brady has. Both are things you’re born with. Whatever it that Brady has isn’t a learned skill through coaching or Anthony Robbins seminars.

Multi-Interception Games, Super Bowl

Patrick Mahomes, 2
Tom Brady, 1

Important to note: Brady threw 4 TDs, 2 in the 4th with a GW drive (win) in that multi pick game. Mahomes couldn't even find the end zone in his.

That defense pretty much intercepted everyone.

Rodgers had 2 in the NFC Championship Game.

Manning had 2 in the Super Bowl.

Difference is that the above two were pretty much shut down unlike Brady.

Tony Romo sounded like a fool talking about 8 championships and more of a fool when he compared Mahomes to Magnus Carlssen. There have been a lot of Magnus Carlssen’s that failed to become Magnus Carlssen.

Remember Chris Collingsworth in SB49...Russell Wilson told me he wants to win 6. Momentum ends quickly.
Who's Magnus Carlssen?

Mahomes definitely better than Rodgers & Brees. Not willing to put him above Manning at this stage. Manning was really ****ing good.

The window is closing, soon mahones will be the next Wilson.

No one is saying he sucks. Just that there's a difference between being Rodgers good and Brady, Manning, Montana good.

Brady said about Mahomes before the SB, "the moment is never too big for him." Even though they got destroyed I still believe that's true which puts him on the path to being in top tier. Andy Reid being compared to Bill is the bigger joke. They could have run the ball on Tampa all day long but once again Andy had Mike Martz disease. The moment is often too big for Andy. Is he great at schemes? Yes. Is he good at execution in the big moments? NO. The title last year was more about Mahomes going off than anything Andy did.

If Mahomes can stay healthy, and that's not a small if, I think he'll still pass Manning on the all time list. He's a better big game player already compared to Rodgers, Brees and really Peyton as well. Peyton's two titles the defense carried him. I'd also put him above Rapestburger who was awful in one SB and ok in two more. He's also come up small in the rest of the playoffs often enough.

At this point it's more probable people are right that Mahomes is the next Wilson than it is he catches Brady. And I think it's probably weighted 90-10. Hill and Kelce aren't going to be at this level for much longer. The Chiefs have cap issues which will hinder their getting OL depth. Pretty much like the Rams they better win it all in the next two years.
